Status of the Global Network of
Regional Sustainable Energy Centers
1.Arab State Center for Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) - 2nd Operational Phase
2.West Africa ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) - 2nd Operational Phase
3.Eastern Africa Center for Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency (EACREEE) - 1st Operational Phase
4.Southern Africa Center for Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency (SACREEE) - 1st Operational Phase
5.Pacific Center for Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency (PCREEE) - 1st Operational Phase
6.Caribbean Center for Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) - Preparatory Phase
7. HKH Himalayan Centre for Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency (HCREEE) - Preparatory Phase
Objectives of the Centres- Potential Benefits
Promote the creation and operation of regional sustainable energy markets,
industries and innovation through economies of scale
Strengthen technical capacities of regional organizations to assist Member States in
the implementation of policies and targets
“Hubs” for knowledge and expertise, as well as platforms for south-south, triangular
partnerships and the private sector
Address common barriers more (cost) effective through regional exchange,
approaches and methodologies
Strengthen the local ownership, leadership, as well as donor harmonisation and
alignment
Address the „missing link“ between international energy and climate commitments and
implementation on national level
Guiding principles:“individual technical mandate depending on the needs of the
respective country /region“
Accelerate & complement national efforts through
regional interventions -potential fields of cooperation
Global Network as facilitator for implementation of
Global Agreements on Energy & Climate Change
- strong global advocacy group for SE4ALL and climate resilience

Concluding Remarks
All countries in the region are facing stark choice between rapid development and
energy self -sufficiency as they can not achieve both without energy
interdependence/cooperation
Regional sustainable energy centres can be a vehicle for promoting innovative
regional approach to make sustainable energy transition goal a reality in the HKH
region
Underpinning the implementation of goal is the guiding principle that it is a shared
responsibility, which can be accelerated meaningfully if all key stakeholders partner
with each other and synergize their efforts to make this transition possible
Thank you
