Overview of M2000 M2000, using two kinds of working mode, including client and server terminals. The software of

M2000 is made up of client, server and network element adapter, which are independent from each other. Client software runs on client terminal, while the server and network element adapter software run on the server terminal.

How do M2000 configure the net? Especially for BSC6000? First, M2000 sends the order, all the configuration data is written into an XML file. Secondary, uploaded to M2000 by FTP, then the configured server will fetch the network element’s configuration data according to MIT trees’ related interfaces of BSC6000. So, without making any operation of data configurations in M2000 we can see all the messages of cells and carrier frequency managed by BSC6000.


Overview of M2000

The functions offered by M2000 are not only the management of performance counter, but also the centralized managements of topology, configuration, fault, software and safety.

Main functions offered by performance counter management:

► Management of performance counter and objects

► Real time measurement functions

► Real time monitoring

► Management of performance data

► Performance alarms

► Custom counter

After the connecting between M2000 and BSC6000, BSC will upload a default task file of a network element to M2000 server. M2000 will analyze and verify the format and content of this task file, and then create a new task file according to the measured counter management, finally descend to network element.


How to register object

Object measurement ：To define the measurement object. Measurement object can be sub rack or cabinet for physical concept or cells for logical concept.

Measurement object and measurement counter corresponding to each other. Different measurement object has different measurement counter, 。 a measurement counter can only be applied for one kind of measurement object. The counter is divided into several measurement function integration, one measurement function integration is also divided into several measurement units which are corresponding to one kind of measurement object.

While adding network elements, such as new sites, M2000 might not update object list immediately, we can synchronize the configurations manually.



In the M2000 network topology interface, select the network element graph needed to be maintained, open the right button menu and select ”Synchronize CM data”; the synchronization progress will be displayed on the network element graph.



Most of the BSC6000 counteres are collected by network element itself according to hours, and a result file is to be created. However, whether these counteres will be converted into M2000 server database and queried, some settings have to be done. (register or not, KPI counteres will be saved and available to be queried).

The operations related to traffic statistic of M2000 are included in “Performance” menu ：



Open “performance” menu, select ”Object Setting”, then start registering object in the pop-up interface. Like the graph below, unfold the “cell” object, under of which are the network element (BSC6000),


How to register Counter

According to the source of counter, we can divide them into two parts: system counter and custom counter. System counter could also be divided into two parts: Key counter and Extension Performance counter.

The counter defined in M2000 by user is custom counter.

Important counter of network element, measurement state by default, user can not cancel the measurement.

Extension performance counter

Non measurement report are not available until we register it, after registering, it can start, user could cancel the measurement.

Custom counter

Custom counter is a new measurement counter, which is created by portfolio operation of original counter. ► Custom counter is made up of value, constant and integral operators. All system co

unteres involved in a certain custom counter must correspond to a same object type.

► The formula defined in custom counter can be nested.

► The length of formula must be less than 255 bytes.

► User can create, modify or delete custom counter, but can’t deliver measurement directly.



Select “Counter Setting”, register the counter on pop-up interface:

such as the graph below, only the “Default Counter” (KPI counter) are automatically selected when commissioning site, other “Extended Counter” has to be selected manually. Finish selecting, click “Apply” or “OK”.



Architecture of performance measurement counter

The system has a large amount of performance measurement counter. In order to use and manage conveniently, this counter must be managed layer by layer.

► Layer 1, functional set (measurement set), includes several functional sub set related to certain aspect of system function.

► Layer 2, functional sub set (measurement unit), includes several measurement counter related to certain system function.

► Layer 3, measurement counter.



In counter registering interface of M2000, structure of the counter distributes according to measurement object/business process, level one catalogue distributes by object, what RNO pays attention to are:

► BSC Measurement

► Call Measurement

► CHAN Measurement

► MR Measurement

► PAGE Measurement

Call Measurement is the most important, which is separated into several business process, including access, assignment, handover, call drop and so on.

MR Measurement is traffic statistic of measurement report, it includes traffic volume, interference band, up-down link balance, etc.


How to maintain counter

counter maintenance function includes several aspects:

► Synchronize the measurement result of a certain time segment

► Subscribe measurement, dynamically examine the result reporting instance

► Query reliability instance of measurement result in a certain time segment

► Query the loss instance of measurement result in a certain time segment

► suspend and resume measurement

How to maintain counter :synchronize

► Synchronize network element data manually, so that the lost measurement data can be recovered from the network element.



How to maintain counter: subscribe

► After subscribing, newly reported performance measurement result will be displayed in the interface automatically.

A limit of five subscribed measurement instances in every interface

Cancel the subscribe of current Tab and close it

How to maintain counter: query reliability

► While network element reporting measurement result, the reliability information will be included, so as to describe whether these data is reliable. It shows the ratio of the reliable result in the whole measurement result.


How to query counter

Select “query result” in performance main menu

► Query measurement result according to different conditions (counter/object/time segment).

► Save the set query condition as a template, this template can also be copied and pasted.

► The measurement result can be displayed in the form of table, linearity graph and histogram.

Direction of counter query: counter query is to query the database under conditions of object, counter and time, so these three aspect must be selected in the counter query interface.

In order to create a query, we have to right click on the level 1 tree directory, and select “New Query”.

Every new query, there is a “save template“ button, we can save the template, so that if we have to query the same counter next time, it can be easily done by clicking the template.

How to apply real time (short periods) counter

The period of real time counter measurement is less than 30 minutes, commonly 5min or 15min, for the purpose of trouble shooting (paging or handover) in a short time. Mostly we don’t use it. I

n order to prevent M2000 from data processing overload.

Maintenance and query operation of real time counter is the same as normal counter, but the function entrance


How to operate custom counter

Direction of custom counter operation: ► Custom counter is made up of value, constant and operator.

► After all the original counter come into measurement status, the user custom counter will come into measurement status.

► All system counteres involved in a certain custom counter must correspond to a same object type. So as to say: one object type can span function sub set.

► User can create, modify or delete custom counter.



Select “Customer Counter Management” in the performance menu, M2000 will switch to custom counter operation interface:

Tips of custom counter usage

► Naming of custom counter must distinguish obviously from the system self counter.

► Export the custom counter to xml file, and import in other M2000 server.

► We can’t edit the custom counteres created by other user, but we can copy them in counter browse interface and make use of them convenient.

► Custom counter support nested counter , the custom counter set by user can be used in other counter formula.

► When querying custom counter, it must be calculated by M2000. Unlike the system counter which is calculated at the time while reporting archive. So custom counter need more query time (V2R6 and its higher version, custom counter will be calculate at the archive time).



In the new custom counter interface, formula can be copied and pasted directly in formula editing area.

How to manage the threshold of counter

Threshold management

For the purpose of KPI monitor, we can set a threshold value to manage. M2000 will use the form of alarm to inform user that the counter has been changed based on the pre set threshold values. However, the counter reporting can only support minimum 15 minutes granularity. The subsequence version can support the counter reporting for less than 15 minutes also.

Threshold management includes:

► Set threshold according to a certain network element or measurement unit

► Two threshold direction: ascent and descent

► Four threshold alarm levels: warning, minor, major, critical.

Hysteresis can be set separately.

► Threshold can be created, modified, deleted, or suspended.

example ： if every BSC6000 set one PCU &300 cells, the number of equivalent network elements is 11(normal measurement) , 19.5(max measurement) ； B065 version of V890 can suspend 11(normal) / 6(max) BSCs.


How to do if we can’t query the counter data

Failing to archive is the main reason, several scenes are described below:

► The size of original network element reporting file in M2000 server is 0K, which results in failing to read the real data.

Due to bad transmission condition between M2000 and BSC, error files will be created. We need to delete these files before archive. M2000 version V2R3C01B065SP04 and its subsequence version can solve this problem.

► High amount of data query leads to deadlock of database ：Cleaning the database and restart M2000 server are needed, for BSC6

000, we must strictly control measurement object activation data related to Neighbor cell measurement.

► Register 15 minutes traffic statistic, leads to slow data archive:

Close short period traffic statistic, or it would cause large amount of data needs to archive on the hour, it would also delay the normal period traffic statistic to archive.


Answers to the common problems

Common problems

► After query result files saved as .EXCEL, number format is saved as text format, which leads to failure to edit the data directly ？

R3C01B065SP03 and its earlier version, we need to transfer the data or save it as .CSV format.

R3C01B065SP04 version, number can be saved directly.

► counter query/register interface, how to do if all counteres needed to be selected? Drag the scroll bar to the bottom, and click “all item”, that’s ok.

► Some appraisal counteres of customer need to be calculated by custom formula, but the query is very slow, how to do?

Suggest not use custom counter in M2000, export the original counter, write macro/formula ourselves to improve the speed.

Evolution of M2000 version

► CME imported New version is not only enhanced on performance statistic, but also imports CME module on data sett

ing, which can support both import and export EXCEL format of all network optimizing parameters.

The adding of CME function can make user deal with daily parameter modifying and operation related to network optimizing efficiently. Besides, between different network elements, some matching functions can be implemented automatically: for example, automatically cell data modifying after sites swap to other BSC.

► MML imported Import of MML can improve the efficiency of daily data modifying and querying.

► Man-machine interface optimized

► Function persistence optimizing: real time monitor of counter, cooperate with network element to complete less granularity counter monitor.

► Query report: many sheets can be set in one report, and it can include different measurement object/counter; at the same time, we can set TopN query or conditional display.
