FS7 Electricity

This unit will discuss the subject of electricity. I am going to take it back to the basic

principles and then expand to be able to determine its parameters

Module 1

This module gives an introduction to the subject.

Page 2: FS7 Electricity

Module 2

This module will look at super conductors.

Module 3

If a potential of 6 volt is provided in a circuit with a resistance of 0.1 ohms, in other words the

resistance is purely caused by the wire, what current will be flowing?

Page 3: FS7 Electricity

Module 4

This module will discuss the topic of voltage and how it forces electrons through the wire.

Page 4: FS7 Electricity
Page 5: FS7 Electricity

Module 5

This module will discuss the issue of resistors and how they affect the amount of current flowing in a

circuit.

Page 6: FS7 Electricity

Module 6

Determine the total resistance in this circuit?

Page 7: FS7 Electricity

Module 7

This module will look at resistors in parallel.

Module 8

Determine the resistance in the following circuit?

Module 9

Determine the resistance in the following circuit?

Page 10: FS7 Electricity

Module 10

This module will discuss work in relation to electricity. For electrical potential to be created work has

to be done. Well work is a form of energy and is thus measured in the joule.

Module 11

Attempt the following question and then view the module.

Q. 5 batteries each of 2 Volts are connected in series with christmas tree lights having 20 bulbs each

rated at 0.5w at 3 volts.

What is the current flowing in the circuit and what is the resistance of each bulb?

Page 12: FS7 Electricity

Module 12

Attempt the following question and then view the module.

The power circuit of an office is supplied at 240 Volt and has the following appliances connected to

it.

4 heaters 3000W for 5 hours

1 kettle 2000W for 0.5 hours

5 computers 1000W for 6 hours

If the charge per unit is 7p, What would be the total charge for the day?

What would be the resistance of each item and what would be the total effective resistance of the

whole circuit?

Page 13: FS7 Electricity

Module 13

Attempt the following question and then view the module.

This diagram shows a circuit.

Calculate

a) The current flowing from the source

b) The voltage drop across BC

c) The current in the 12 and 9 ohm resistor

d) The power dissipated in the 12 ohm resistor

Module 14

Determine the following parameters?

a) What is the voltage at A,B,C and D

b) What is the voltage across AB,BC, CD and DE?

c) What is the current in the circuit?

d) Eventually the battery will lose its voltage and falls to 8Volts, how much power will be dissipated

in all the resistors together?
