Dear families,

Despite uncertainty throughout the community at the moment regarding COVID-19, St Joseph’s remains a positive and happy place. With so much about COVID-19 in the media, the following informative six minute video by Dr Michael Carr Gregg has been created especially for families and sets a calm and rational tone. GOLDEN APPLE DOCKETS

A major fundraiser for St Joseph’s is the collection of GOLDEN APPLE DOCKETS. The Golden Apple Supermarket very generously donates money to the school according to the amount spent over the year by the school (and extended) community.

This is an EASY fundraiser for the school, so please KEEP YOUR DOCKETS AND SEND THEM IN WITH YOUR CHILD TO BE COLLECTED IN THEIR CLASS.

NUDE FOOD DAY EVERY MONDAY

Every Monday is Nude Food Day. On Nude Food Day, our aim is for student lunch boxes to be wrapper free. The purpose of this is to raise awareness of ways we can reduce waste/packaging and also to keep the healthy food profile high. We want our students to be informed about how we can be stewards of God’s creation. This is a practical way to show that each of us CAN make a difference to the amount of waste created. Thank you for your support.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY

The first day of Term 2, Monday 27th April is a Staff Development Day. There will be no school for students on this day.

This piece of writing was jointly composed by 3I. It is an amazing piece of writing and I encourage you to take a few minutes to read it. Well done Miss Ierano and 3I.

The Lion King - Stampede - Tightening Tension by 3I Pebble “Roar”. “Roar”. “ROAAAARR!” The echo travelled across the wide, rocky gorge. The ground beneath Simba’s paws began to rumble and shake like an earthquake. Dust flew through the air as the monstrous herd of buffalo came charging down into the gorge, towards the tiny lion cub who was frozen in fear. Gulp! Sweat poured down Simba’s golden furry face as he scrambled through the dusty mist. Chomp! The bloodthirsty, carnivorous hyenas chased the buffalo herd as they kept tumbling down. Rock The rumbling noise from the gorge interrupted Zazu and Mufasa. Scar, the big, selfish bully, rushed to warn them about the dangerous stampede. Mufasa’s heart was pumping out of his chest, as he leapt down the mountain, and sprinted straight towards the monumental gorge. The sea of untamed beasts continued to rage towards Simba, overtaking and nearly trampling the poor little cub. Darkness crept over Simba, he leaped into the air and gripped onto the old, low hanging tree branch. Zazu swooped through the wide gorge, frantically searching for Simba. The cub swung from the branch, hanging for dear life, when the weak branch began to creak and snap. Mufasa heroically jumped down to the rescue, persevering when the galloping beasts knocked him to the dry, dusty ground. The branch broke and the little cub was launched into the air, Mufasa sprang upward, catching Simba with his mighty jaw. BOULDER Scar crept up above with an evil, devilish smirk. His eyes narrowed down below as he watched his brother struggle to get to safety. Mufasa quickly dumped Simba on the pointy edge of the cliff, when the wave of beasts pulled Mufasa back down beneath the thousands of stomping hooves. Simba’s heart was beating 100 kilometres an hour, as his eyes frantically searched for Mufasa in the tornado of dust that swept him away. Mufasa let out a deep, ferocious growl. The lion pounced up and gripped his claws into the steep, rocky cliff. As Mufasa just reached the top, his claws began to shiver and slip down. “Scar! Brother! Help me!” Mufasa cried and begged his evil brother Scar. Suddenly, Scar dug his long, sharp, knife-like claws into Mufasa’s furry skin. He smiled his devilish smirk from ear to ear, “long live the king!” he selfishly growled. Scar forcefully threw Mufasa, flying backwards towards the mighty stampede at the bottom of the deep gorge. Simba painfully screams out in fear, as he watched his father fall and disappear into the doom and dust below.

Information for parents & carers

Dear parents, guardians and carers

Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes: • year of schooling • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary,

substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to: • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational

outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact Luisa Tavella at St Joseph’s Leeton.

Kind regards

Mary Jane Simms Luisa Tavella
