From the Desk of Father Jeremy/ Del Escritorio del Padre Jeremy 2
A long standingcritique of thosewho attend Church,by those who donot, is, “They’re alla bunch ofhypocrites.”
My standard answeris, “Yes, weprobably are. That’s why weneed to go!”
If everything wasokay with us, then
we would not need to attend Mass or even approachGod. We do not come to Church on Sundays todemonstrate how holy we are. We come becauseJesus has what we need to make us holy.
None of us lives a blameless life. None of us is withoutinconsistencies. The Pharisees in the Gospel, however, made a virtue out of keeping up appearances, whichgave them license to do in private, whatever theywanted.
Our life with Jesus is one of ongoing conversion, starting with the inside and working outwards. So, as our heart converts more to Jesus and toHis way of compassion and mercy, so our externalactions start to reflect that love.
People drift away from Church for many differentreasons. Let’s not allow anything to keep us awayfrom Jesus in the sacraments. When we have Jesusfixed strong within, all storms can be weathered.
Because we are faithful to Church attendance does notmean we are any better than those who do not attend. It simply means that we are aware of our need.
no asisten. Simplemente significa que somos conscientesde nuestra necesidad.

Pandemic Heros
Since March 2020, when the pandemic really started affecting people, businesses, and life in general, the Church of the Holy Spirit Food Pantrynever closed. This was due to the dedication of the food pantryvolunteers who made their decisions that if there was a need for food,we would be there to supply it. Our numbers increased dramatically overwhat had been our monthly averages of about 350 families.
In April 2020 we assisted 1,134 families and the totals for May and June of2020 were 1,494 families.
This is a plaque that we received from the Greater Chicago FoodDepository in recognition of our service to the community.
Dear Lord, as our students begin a new school year, we pray that you will keep them in your care. Send your Spiritto open their minds to all that is true and beautiful and good. Help them to see the gifts and talents you have giventhem and to use them well. Help them to grow in knowledge and wisdom. Help them to be kind to others andlead others to be kind to them. Give their teachers patience and understanding and help them teach what is justand true. Send your angels to guide and guard our children and to keep them from all harm. Open their younghearts to your presence and enfold them in your peace and protection. Hold them in the palm of your hand andbring them home safely at day’s end. Amen.
