Study Links Fibromyalgia to TMJ DisordersIn a recent study by the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, it was found that there is a strong correlation between Fibromyalgia and TMJ Disorders. The study found that 83.3% of Fibromyalgia patients exhibited jaw joint pain and over 30% had pathological joint sounds. Also, jaw muscle pain was found in approximately 80% of the cases. These findings would account for a high incidence of headache experience (97%) in these patients.

Dr. Jay Gerber, director of the Center for Occlusal Studies in West Virginia, states that he is of the opinion that all Fibromyalgia patients should be wearing a NM orthotic and be using an Ultra Low Frequency (ULF) TENS in order to alleviate muscle tension and pressure in the jaw joints.
