THE GIFTS OF THE MAGI
We continue the celebration of the Christmas Season this week with the great Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. Today we proclaim once again from the Gospel of Matthew and hear how the magi from the east followed the star seeking the “newborn king of the Jews.” (Matthew 2:1). The magi carried gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Tradition tells us that the gift of gold is symbolic of Jesus’ kingship. Frankincense was used in temple worship and thus is symbolic of Jesus’ divinity. Lastly, myrrh was used in burials and is symbolic of Jesus’ humanity. What gift can you give to the Lord this year? That is a good question for all of us to ponder this week. The best gift you can give to the Lord is the gift of yourself. To open your heart and to receive His mercy and love, and to allow that encounter to change you. To encounter Jesus and to share the joy of the Gospel with others in your life. To become, as Pope Francis says, ‘Missionary Disciples,’ which are words you will a lot this year at the parish. Our Lord is not seeking gold, frankincense or myrrh from you. He wants you to know how much He loves you and that He extends to you His mercy and compassion. My prayer today is that more people who have left the active practice of the faith in our community follow the star and return to worship Our Lord as members of our Church. I also pray that like the Magi, you continue to follow the star and that you give to the Christ Child a gift no one else can give: yourself. God Bless,
Fr. Vince
Padre Vicente

Confirmation classes for adults in our parish who were never
confirmed will begin in January, in preparation for our Parish Confirmation which we expect will be celebrated by Bishop
Sullivan in March. We recognize that for many reasons there are some Catholics who have been Baptized and made their First
Holy Communion never received the Sacrament of Confirmation. If that is you, or a person you know, do not be
embarrassed, we hope to help you complete your Sacraments of
Initiation and allow the Holy Spirit to help you even more in your life. If you want more information about Adult Confirmation
Classes please call Father Adam in the parish office at 856-627-2222.
Holy Spirit, come into our hearts.
