OUR PARISH MISSION St. Gregory the Great

Mission Statement

St. Gregory the Great is a Catholic Church made up of people of many different ages, talents, and cultural backgrounds. We are an urban faith community with a small town feel of welcome and hospitality. Motivated by our baptismal calling, we accept our duty to embody the presence of Jesus Christ in the world and to take up the mission he entrusted to us by our word and example. We glorify God through support and service of our time, talent, and treasure to our church and to the larger community in which we live.

IN NEED OF LECTORS - VOLUNTEERS Several of our lectors for weekend Masses have had to give up their ministry due to changing family duties. Lectors proclaim the scriptures during the Liturgy of the Word at Mass, and lead the assembly in offering the Prayer of the Faithful, or petitions. If you think you might like to take up the ministry of lector at one of our weekend masses, and are willing to commit to exercising this ministry once a month on a rotating basis, please contact Fr. Brian at [email protected]. Candidates for this ministry are asked to participate in a short training session before being assigned. Thank you for considering it! POST CHRISTMAS STORYTELLING FOR YOUNG CHILDREN Tales of Searching and Light told by Two Librarians and a Frog! Diane dos Santos and Reenie Ruckdaeshel return to St. Gregory with a Winter picnic, a party and a reluctant wishing star. It will take place on Sunday, Jan. 6 at 4p.m. in the Chapel of Consolation. Children age 3 and up are invited to attend. MINISTRY OF THE WEEK—PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL The Parish Pastoral Council helps the Pastor develop a mission statement and vision for the parish and plan programs which will promote the growth and development of the parish and its parishioners. ST. GREGORY THE GREAT APP St. Gregory the Great Church now has a mobile app that is compatible with your iPhone/iPad or android phone. You can obtain the app by going to your iPhone store or by going to the Google Play Store on your android phone. It can be found at St. Gregory the Great, Chicago. iPhone users can also text great1 to 555888, and android phone users can text great 2 to 555888. Our app is still a work in process. We are still learning how to best make use of it, but it does currently contain several buttons with up to date information about what is happening at St. Gregory the Great as well as other informative sites. If you have any suggestions as to how we might make this mobile app more helpful to you, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me. – Fr. Paul

2018 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL PLEDGE REPORT UPDATE Our parish goal this year for the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal was $20,884. The amount actually pledged is $44,363. I want to thank you for your generosity that helped us to exceed our parish goal. What this means is that if all pledges are paid in full, our parish will receive a rebate of $23,479. As of today, $42,133 in pledges have been paid. This means that as of today we are guaranteed a rebate of $21,249. Any rebate we receive will go towards our Parish Building Maintenance and Repair Fund. Thank you again for your generosity and for your support of the Annual Catholic Appeal. – Fr. Paul PLEASE CONSIDER SIGNING UP FOR GIVE CENTRAL - GiveCentral is a method of electronic giving that guarantees us a steady income whether you are able to attend Mass any given weekend or not. It is safe. It is easy to enroll. You can change your level of giving at any time if your financial situation changes. It is also a green way to give that reduces paperwork and saves trees. You can sign up for GiveCentral on the home page of our parish web site at www.stgregory.net, or you can contact Bernadette Daniels at the Parish Center (773-561-3546), and she can enroll you or help you with the process if you have any questions or difficulties.

“Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.” Please consider our parish, St. Gregory the Great, in your Planned Giving as God has so loved us all.

BINGO WORKERS NEEDED Every Tuesday evening St. Gregory the Great hosts Bingo in the Social Hall of the gym building. It is our biggest fundraiser. Bingo funds have been used to help pay for maintenance and repair projects for our parish buildings. It also helps to make up for the budget shortfall in terms of our Sunday collection. We are very much in need of people who are willing to help run Bingo. If you can volunteer only one Tuesday a month, that would be helpful. The doors to Bingo open at 5p.m. It usually ends by 9:45p.m. You would not necessarily need to be present for the entire time. There are many different jobs that you can help with. If you would be willing to help with Bingo or have any questions about the various jobs associated with Bingo, please contact Fr. Paul at the Parish Center.
