FUSIONpresents does not tolerate any form of racism. The word fusion implies the joining of more than one thing to create a new thing, and that is exactly what FUSIONpresents aspires to do - fuse talent and present art. There is no room for racism, discrimination and pre-conceived judgments in our universe, and we make it a priority to ensure that every single artist, student and venue we work with is on the same page. We must all strive for enlightenment, open- mindedness, empathy and understanding, all with the purpose to help. That is our purpose. It is all of our purpose. In light of what’s going on around the world right now, we’re reaching out to our FP community to raise money and awareness for the Black Lives Matter movement. We’re also donating all funds from all new students for the week of June 7 - June 14 to this cause. Let’s all work together to end systemic racism. We also would like to take this important opportunity to acknowledge that the land on which FUSIONpresents is based and headquartered is the traditional and unceded territory of Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Kwantlen, Katzie, Semiahmoo, and Tsawwassen First Nations. As we move through Phase 2 to Phase 3 during these Covid times, many of our venues have re-opened, exercising social distancing protocols and limited capacity. We are working with our partners on re-introducing live music soon. In the meantime, we continue with our weekly scheduled live stream programming. Monday Night Radio with The 9th Brothers every Monday at 8pm, chronicling the history of FUSIONpresents from its inception in 2002 till today. The program includes demo, live, and studio recordings from our past and present catalogue as well as live interviews with those amazing people that helped FUSIONpresents become what it is today. Our Sunday Night Jam is always a big hit, with hundreds of viewers every week watching artists from the global FP Talent Community perform their songs. Please contact us today if you’d like to participate and sing your songs live! We’ll make sure that you’re all set up with Live Streaming so we can have you on the program! FUSIONpresents continues its work with the City of Surrey and Surrey Civic Theatres to showcase the artists we love and work with through the FP Artist Showcase. Our third showcase featuring the wonderful David Symons takes place on Friday June 12 at 7pm on the City of Surrey’s YouTube channel! Be sure to tune in. Our weekly live stream Music Lessons series continues on Wednesdays and we’ve already covered so much ground with basic music theory and an introduction to piano, guitar and drums! CBC Music named Ashley Pater one of the top 10 young Canadian musicians you must hear. Ashley is a 17  year old singer/songwriter from Vancouver, BC and has been performing since the age of 9.

Although she grew up on country music while riding in the backseat of her mom’s car, Ashley considers her music to be alternative rock, which for her is a unique blend of folk, pop, and rock.

Ashley has been featured in Starbeat magazine, Business in Vancouver, Cloverdale Reporter, Hope Standard Newspaper, The Surrey Now Newspaper, and many more. Her goal is to share her stories with the world through song, and touch the heart through the ear of the listener.

Ashley also occasionally blesses our very own Sunday Night Jam! Check out Ashley’s website and official music videos below!

BC ARTIST HIGHLIGHT :ASHLEY PATER

Bob Dylan DJ’d on Theme Time Radio,  Tom Petty on his Buried Treasure show, and B.B. King worked as a DJ before his career took off. FUSIONpresents has Monday Night Radio hosted by the 9th Brothers. Another radio show hosted by a musician that has caught my attention is Jonesy’s Jukebox, hosted by former Sex Pistols guitar player, Steve Jones.

Steve Jones is from England and formed and played guitar in the most famous of punk-rock bands. The Sex Pistols made their mark despite only ever releasing one studio album. After the Pistols disbanded, Jones formed other short-lived groups and released a couple of solo albums. He also kept busy by playing on a number of other people’s albums and took part in some Sex Pistol reunion shows over the years.

Jonesy’s Jukebox debuted in 2004 out of Los Angeles and has ran almost every year since. The show features a mix of songs from present  to the past to go along with whichever guest happens to be on the show. Jones’s guests are mainly from the music industry and from a variety of styles and backgrounds. From Eddie Vedder to Pete Townshend to Robby Krieger to Iggy Pop to Clive Davis. Jones’s interviews are informative, featuring stories around life in the music business. Native Englanders seem to be at home on this California based presentation, as heaps of them are featured guests. I quite enjoy the laid-back overall tone of the show. Jonesy’s Jukebox refreshingly isn’t short on giggles and chuckles either.

Steve Jones had an autobiography published in 2016 called “Lonely Boy” - tales from a Sex Pistol. I would like to get me mitts on a copy as I feel that I have become acquainted with him through his radio show.

JONESY’S JUKEBOX by D.M. White

BRUCE’S CORNER53 years ago on June 1st The Beatles released Sgt. Pepper. How time flies. Still considered by many the most important album ever recorded. My older sister bought the record and it was played fairly steadily for many years on the living room cabinet stereo. Many other albums were played on that stereo but I remember listening to that one, reading the lyrics and singing along trying to figure out why The Beatles had changed their name. It really started a love for music that continued when I bought my first record “Hey Jude” and then my first album “Abbey Road”.

Coincidentally, on my Sirius radio in the car, I’ve been listening to The Beatles channel for about a week now. Thoroughly enjoying it. I’ve visited the station before but this is the longest I’ve stayed on it. It can be a little overwhelming but they do make it interesting with past interviews with the lads, playing demos and various tapes from the studio, theme sets and I think you can send in a list of your top 10 favourite songs and they play them. The music is the entire Beatles catalog including their solo careers.

The Covid-19 thing is still continuing. Strange times indeed. I keep trying to figure out what new product or service that has emerged during these times and will play a big role in the days ahead. Maybe a home delivery company or personalized plastic spit screens. Maybe personalized masks. A mask for different occasions; maybe one for a special dinner or dance or even a date. I’m also thinking of inventing some kind of radar apparatus that will beep when someone is within 6 feet of you.

Finally, I encourage everyone to listen to group called Celtic Thunder. I discovered them on PBS years ago and like them so much I was given a CD for Christmas one year. They are a group of incredible male singers from Ireland singing Celtic songs along with music from around the world. I like them so much I went and saw them play at UBC when they toured. And remember, the only place I’ve seen them is on PBS. Good music is everywhere.

Stay safe all.
