OCTO ERWe were blessed with the visit of Lanis Kineman Larry s father who was the preaching minister at BethanyChristian Church for 29 years. Lanis had the opportunityto participate in some of the activities at the church andwas also able to preach at our Harvest SundayService.Harvest Sunday is a time to bring in food to show Godof your appreciation for the blessings He has given youduring harvest. (Harvest is similar to our Thanksgiving, but the English have no reason to celebrate the safearrival to a new country, a plentiful crop, or the survivalof a harsh winter ) It was a real joy to have Lanis withus

We started a new program with the Sunday School. Wehad previously been having Sunday School at 10 a.m.and worship at a.m. Worship service now starts at10 :30 a .m . w i th th e children in th e se rv ice wi th us . Wesing, have announcements, greet one another, and have aspecial time of singing for the children. At about 11,justafter the singing and just before the quiet times ofprayers and communion, the children and teachers areexcused and go to their Sunday School rooms. This newarrangement has been well received. Also, we haveincreased in the number of children attending; thechildren and the teachers enjoy this new format. To meet the need of educating the adults, we have begunCELL (Christians Evangelizing, Learning, and Loving)groups. There are five of these groups, and theymeet indifferent homes. We have four adult groups and oneolder youth group. By meeting during the week, theSunday School teachers get to be in a Bible study.Attendance has been exceptionally good; we are pleasedwith the growth in numbers and in spiritualmaturity. Please pray for God to raise up spiritual leadersof the^romsgrove Christian Church through these CELLgroups.N O V EM E RWe werepleased to have my parents,Larry and DixieGibson, come for a visit. They came for one reason andone reasononly: to spoil their grandchildren They didawonderful job ofthat Our children were able to t^e theweek off school, and they thoroughly enjoyed theindulgence of their grandparents. It had been two yearssince we had seen them. Samuel was a little shy at first, but he soon came around and was giving hugs andkisses. It was a quick visit (only seven days), but it wasso good to see them.

The youth had their second annual Autumn Retreat, which proved to be a big success with them. There were25 in attendance, and the weather cooperated as it was abit wanner this year than it was last year. Last year thetemperatures were freezing during thenight andonly upto about 40 during the day. This year it stayed in thehigh50s during the day. Everyone was pleased aboutthis.

Our youth enjoy getting together for whatever reason, and this just cemented their friendships even more. There were two youth who went on the retreat who hadbeen sporadic in their attendance at events until thisretreat. They have both been very active since.Alan Marshall, a friend of ours who ministers inStreatham, London, came with us on th e retreat to leadthe worship time and to preach. Alan s wife Luz andt hei r son J ake we re abl e to be wit h u s fo r th e weekend aswell. The youth retreat took place from Friday eveningthrough Sunday afternoon. Following the retreat, Alanand his family came back to Bromsgrove ChristianChurch with us, and he gave a concert for the wholecongregation. Please pray for Tom as he has a major project going onalong with the church work: He is finishing his PhD Heshould have it done by the end of 1995. It will mean a lotof work for him, but.I think we will both be glad when itis finished. Please pray that all would go well as hewrites up his research.Love,

March 1995Dear Friends,To m and I want to share with you some items that weknowyou have been praying about. We moved into our new house on February4, 1995We have a four-bedroom house, plus an office forTom. It isan older housewhere the front groundfloor ha d been converted into a convenience store. Alo t o f w or k h ad to been done to convert t hi s ar ea intoa living room. We hada lot of help from people atBromsgrove Christian Church and CMF co-workers.The people have been wonderful helping us move, paint, and do repairs. Many hours were spent gettingthis house ready to live in.Wewould like to thankyou for all your prayers andfinancial giving thatmade it possible for us to moveinto this house.Recently, I madea two-week trip backto the US formy grandfather s funeral. Samuelwent with me, whileTom and the older three children stayed in England.Since I came to the States onlyten days after movinginto the new house, I left alotof the unpackingundone. So, I still have sorting and arranging todoamonth after moving.Another item that Iwould like to give you someinformation on s Tom s back. Many people haveprayed for Tom and his back pain. Foraboutoneyearnow, Tom has been having back pain. Hehad beenunder a doctor s care during this time, but hewasunable to determine the cause of the pain. He finallywent to a back specialist. Theydid anMRI and foundout that he has a degenerative discin the lowerlumbar region (the lower back). The doctors said that

hewas a bit young to be having this problem, but thatit w a sn t u nh e ar d oTom had been exercising regularly, so this is probablywhyhe didn t have problems earlier. (He played soccerwith some high school kids at campwhen someonetripped him, and he landed hard. This iswhen hestarted feeling the pain.) The doctor told him that hehadvery good back muscles, and, with regular exercise,he should be able to live withoutmuchpain, avoidingan operation. He feels much better.I would like to update youon thechurch s cell groups.Westartedthe groups in October; theywere goingvery well. InJanuary, we decided to change the groupsaround to make thema littlemore even. They havebeen awonderful source of learning andencouragement. The people love to get together, laugh, study, eat, and fellowship. Thank you for praying foryourbrothers and sisters inChrist inEngland.p u r new address is:

JUNEAlmost overnight, our weather in England went fromtemperaturesin the 60s to temperatures in the 80s. Iwas sure that after just the first few days, we would goback to our good ole English weather. But, it didn thappen. We crammed a whole summer s worth ofactivities into one weekbecause that is all the longeryou can guarantee beautiftil weather here. I guessGod must have taken me seriouslywhen I asked formore that beautiful weather I have not failed tothank Him daily for the sunshine. I just wish I could

bottle some and keep it for the long winter ahead.) InJune, we said goodbye to Angela and her friend KateAllardice as they headed forAmerica.JULYIn July, we welcomed the Christ inYouth CIY)group, awonderful group ofyoung people led bySteve Sigler and Brenda Hawkins who came over andhelped us. They did many things for us. They startedoutby helping us do some much-needed cleaningaround thechurch building, which had not hadagood spring cleaning since ourarrival three years ago. They also painted some children s chairs andrefinished some children s tables. The Three-to-Five-year-old Sunday School class now fights over who getstositin the two silver chairs As the group waspainting-thcm, they-alMaugked-and-said there-weuWprobably be arguments over whogot those chairs.Theirprediction came true. The bad partisthatourson Samuel is usually the oneyelling the loudest forone of the silver chairs. He has had a lot ofpractice infighting with his oldersiblings to getwhat hewants.TheCIY group also helped us do aHoliday BibleClub HBC is like VBS). We had a tremendousturnout with a total of 54 difi^erent childrenattending, ranging in ages from two to ten. SundaySchool averages 20 on Sunday mornings with thesesameagegroups. A couple of families beganworshiping with us because ofHBC. Please keepthese people in yourprayers.

D ecember 995Dear Friends,I would like to take this opportunity to bring youup-to-date on a specific group within theBromsgroveChristian Church: the Youth Bible Study. A lot hasbeen happening with this group. This study started inJanuary1993, initially attendedbysixyouth plusTom,who led the group. They havemet from that date to thepresent onThursday nightsat 7 p.m. They have been involved in many excitingactivities: retreats, camps, bike rides, concerts, stringed orchestras, overnighters, and parties forEVERY imaginable thing These activities have beenvery helpful in cementing their relationships with oneanother, as well asstrengthening them spiritually. On October 20-22, they went on their third annualfall retreat up north to

The buildingmusth av e b ee n b ea ut if ul whenit was first built, but went into disrepair as attendancestarted to drop.About ten years ago, the church was no longer able tokeep up the building. A coven ofwitches found outthat the buildingwas for sale and got the cashtogether to pay for the building in full. The people ofthe village found out that thewitches had the moneyto purchase the building andgot together to try andstop it. Therewas one manwhowas so concernedthat he took hispension and life savings to pay for thebuilding. This action kept the buildingout of thehands of the witches. The village was then able toapplyfor grants; with thismoney, they restored thebuilding and turned it into a retreat center.
