    M I S S I O N A R I S TO G R T RIT INCHRISTIAN MISSIONARY FELLOWSHIP Prayer Newsletter

June 1994Dear Friends,I have just finished reading some prayer newslettersfrom other missionaries. Their adventures soundexciting and dangerous as they face wild animals anddroughts. Sometimes I feel likeour letters mayseem alitde boring to you after reading other missionariesnewsletters.

Life in England s anything but boring. Wedon't facethedangers ofwild animals or drought (although theEnglish sometimes feel s if they are inthemiddle ofadrought when it doesn t rain for three weeks), but, likeall missionaries, we face dangers not seen bythe humaneye. For ourstruggle isnotagainstflesh and blood, butagainst the rulers, against thepowers, against the worldforces of this darkness, against thespiritualfarces ofwickedness in theheavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 Dailywe struggle against this unseen attacker as we shareChrist with the people in Bromsgrove. Most Britishmen and women do not think theyhavethe need for a Savior as theyare content with thethings theworld offers to them. They live their livesseeking pleasure for themselves. Pray for us...especially prayforour children as theyare taughtwithin an educational system and surrounded byaculture that denies the existence ofany realitybeyondthat which is seen. 2 Corinthians 4:18Let me tell you about some of our adventures. Many exciting things are happening here atBromsgrove Christian Church. In ourlastnewsletter, wereported that wehad 10 baptisms on October 29,1993. On January 30, 1994, we had four morebaptisms. There areotherswhoworship with uswhoneedto obeyChrist in immersion. Please keep them in

together, and played together.Wehadtheopportunitto see just what the youth do during their free time, which helped us to better understand them. They hada chance to see adults enjoy the same type ofgamesthey like to play. The youth thoroughly enjoyedwatching the adults bejust as silly in the games asthemselves. Itwas a time ofgrowing andof bonding.

anyone able or willing to teach. Sometimes we have tocombine classes, and this can be a challenge s ateacher may have ten students ranging in ge from oneto nin-years old.Our children are all doing fine and are growing upquickly. Theyjust had a two-week vacation fromschool and found it hard to go back especially whenthey realized theyhad twelve more weeks until theendofschool. They do not get out until July 22, 1994.Angela only has one more year before she will completeEngland s required schooling.Easter Dayat Bromsgrove Christian Church waswonderful. We had a sunrise service at a local park. Itwas atimeto reflect on God sWord in the bright, early morning cold. We then headed for the church sbuilding forhot cups of coffee and tea to warm us up,then we ate a wonderful traditional English breakfast:baked beans, fried tomatoes, eggs, bacon, and blackpudding. Following breakfost, we had a worship servicethat included special musicand an artistwho painted alarge sbcfeet bythree feet) picture of the Easter storyas it was being told. It was a beautiful morning ofpraise to God.In April, we had our CMF retreat for the entire GreatBritain Field Team in the Lake District. We welcomedTim and TammyAho who are our newest family toarrive on the field. It was an opportunity to get toknow all ofour teammates better and enjoy a time ofrelaxation.

MISSION RIES TO GRE T RIT INCHRISTIAN MISSIONARY FELLOWSHIP Prayer Newsletter

September 1994June, July, and August have been busymonths forus, but they have been filledwith activities that haveborne and will bear fruit fo r our Lord We have ha dprayers answered about our need fora larger car. Wehave hada renewed prayer need forour housing. Wehave had some bold, obedient steps of faith taken byseveral people at Bromsgrove ChristianChurch. And,we have had several visitors at Bromsgrove.A ew a rMany ofyou have been praying for and have sent giftsfor us to find a vehicle suitable forour family. The carwehadwould seatonly five people, andwehave sixpersons in our family So,weneeded to purchaseanother vehicle but lacked th e f unds to do so We canfinally report that we have a car inwhich wecan all beseated properly and wearseatbelts Our search for theright car isa storyof sweet-sorrow.Last February, Steve and BethAnn Carpenterwhoserved as one of th e initial CMF Great Britain FieldTeam families ~ returned to the USA to planta newchurch in Virginia. When theCarpenters left, theygave us theirseven-seat estate car (station wagon).Because we received Carpenters' car,our family wasable togive our car to theTim andTammy Ahofamily, a family of four. At that time, Tim andTammy were completing their support raising inAmerica. Because theyno longerhad to raise fundsforan automobile, theywereable to come to GreatBritain sooner

Since both cars needed expensive repairs, theCarpenter, Aho, and Foust families shared the costofgetting thevehicles ingoodshape mechanically. were able topayourshare through the giftsyou sentto

help us to acquire adequate new transportation. Thankyoufor giving chose fiinds and foryourprayers withour car d i lemmaSo, it was sweet to receive the Ahos to the fieldearlier than expected, to give theAlio family our car,and to receive a much-needed larger automobile. However, it was sorrow to saygoodbye to theCarpenter family. Please bepraying for theCarpenterandAho families as they begin their new ministries.Uncertain Housing Situation

Aswe approach the end of our first two years ofservice in England, our two-year housing agreement, likewise, is comingto a close (our lease endsDecember 1994). To find a house to rentin Englandcanbea difficult task, and the typical lease is only forsix months in length. Weareconvinced yourprayersenabled usto have the blessing of a two-year lease in alarge wonderful home. We need your prayers againwith regard to our housing. The family from whomwerent presently lives inAustralia. It may bethat his jobwill keep their familyinAustralia for some timeyet, and they maywish tocontinue to rent to us. On the other hand, if they stayinAustralia, they maywish to sell their home and nolonger want to rent it out. We would not be able topurchasethe home, sowewould be forced to move. Then again, should his work end in Australia and hiscompany send him back to England, we would haveto findanotherplace to live because theywouldreturn to live in their own home As a result of no tknowing what is going to happen, we would begrateful foryour prayers in thismatter.

    Dear Friends

Greetings from Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, England After a beatifiil Autumn seasonwith unusually warm weather, wearelooldng forward to sharing Christmas with ourfriends and neighbors. We are soexcited about the many wonderful things that have happened atBromsgroveChristian Church sincewe arrived two years ago and the Kinemans arrived eighteenmonths ago. Some ofthe Wghlights include: 8 people have been immersed; 3peoplehave renewed their commitment to following Jesus as their Lord; 3 immersed believers.have become members ofBromsgrove Christian Church by transfer Qn addition to theKineman and theFoust femilies); attendance atBromsgrove Christian Church hasincreased atleast 75% (from 44 to75); 5new CELL (ChristiansEvangeliang, Learning, and Loving) groups have begunwth 35-50 inattendance each weel^ there have beensignificant increases in attendancewith theMen's BreakfastandtheWomen s ChristianFellowship; thousands ofdollars ofrep^ and remodeling have been done to thechurch'sbuilding; and I could go on. Can you begin to sense the excitement ofthe growing bodyofChristat Bromsgrove Christian Church?Larry and I have begun to focus ourattention on equipping the samts inBromsgrove(Ephesians 4)todo the work ofministry while continuing to serve alongside the believers. For instance, atourmost recent (October 9,1994) baptismal service, Derek Stancombebaptized Clifford Cox. Derek spends an evening each week teachmg and training Clifford.Larry and I put ourtraining and time into people who are, in turn, putting their efforts intothe lives ofothers. Derek isthe young man who moved with his family toBromsgroye towork alongside Larry and myselfwhile he studies atSpringdale College (the only ChristianChurch Bible college inEngland). Clifford is ayoung man from the Bromsgrovecommunity who has attended youth activities atBromsgrove Christian Church for sometime but was especially reached through the Teen Mission group (led by Richard Clarkand Pete Howard ofCentral Christian Church, Carmel, Indiana) that worked with us lasts umm e r

However, in order to continue the work in Great Britain, we need your help. Many ofyouhave been praying for our housing situation. As we reported in our last newsletter, weknew itwas possible that the people who own the house we live in might need to sell thehouse. They do. We just received notice that our house isgoing tobesold, so wewillhave to move. Wemay need to move injusta few weeks, or--ifthehouse does not sellimmediately-we may havea fewmonthsbeforewe haveto move. We rented the house
