LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Parishioners,

I came across this lawyer joke years ago, but never forgot it, because it’s theme is a lack of generosity. “The United Way Organization realized that it had never received a donation from the city's most successful lawyer, so a United Way volunteer paid the lawyer a visit in his lavish office.

The volunteer opened the meeting by saying, "Our research shows that even though your annual income is over two million dollars, you don't give a penny to charity. Wouldn't you like to give something back to your community through the United Way?" The lawyer thinks for a minute and says, "First, did your research also show you that my mother is dying after a long, painful illness and she has huge medical bills that are far beyond her ability to pay?" Embarrassed, the United Way rep mumbles, "Uh . . . No, I didn't know that."

"Secondly," says the lawyer, "did it show that my brother, a disabled veteran, is blind and confined to a wheelchair and is unable to support his wife and six children?" The stricken United Way rep begins to stammer an apology but is cut off again.

"Thirdly, did your research also show you that my sister's husband died in dreadful car accident, leaving her penniless with a mortgage and three children, one of whom is disabled and another who has learning disabilities requiring an array of private tutors?" The humiliated United Way rep, completely beaten, says, "I'm so sorry, I had no idea." And the lawyer says, "So... If I didn't give any money to them, what the heck makes you think I'd give any money to you?" Thank God we have a number of extraordinarily generous people in our parish who keep us solvent and able to grow. We also have many who do something. But unfortunately, we also have a few who even boast to their friends that they don’t give anything to the church or very little, and yet they come to get the free things. To me these selfish souls seem to me the saddest people of all, because they totally miss the joy that comes from sharing from the heart. When their excuses are gone, they still don’t give. They miss the message of the gospel of generosity entirely--- the very opposite of the widow’s mite.

CARTA DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO Queridos Feligreses, Me encontré con esta broma de un abogado hace años, pero nunca la olvido, porque su tema es “la falta de generosidad.” "La organización de United Way se dio cuenta de que nunca habían recibido una donación del abogado más exitoso de la ciudad, por lo que una voluntaria de United Way visitó al abogado en su lujosa oficina. La voluntaria abrió la reunión diciendo, "nuestra investigación muestra que a pesar de que su ingreso anual es más de 2 millones de dólares, no da un solo dólar. ¿No le gustaría devolver algo a su comunidad a través de United Way?" El abogado piensa por un minuto y dice, ¿En primer lugar, su investigación le mostro también que mi madre se está muriendo después de una larga y dolorosa enfermedad y tiene enormes facturas médicas que están más allá de su capacidad de pago? Avergonzada, la representante de United Way murmura, "Uh... No, no sabía "." En segundo lugar, “dice al abogado," le mostró que mi hermano, un veterano que esta discapacitado, ciego y confinado a una silla de ruedas ¿y no puede apoyar a su esposa y seis hijos? La representante de United Way afectada comienza a balbucear una disculpa, pero el la corta otra vez. ¿En tercer lugar, su investigación también pudo mostrarle que el esposo de mi hermana murió en un terrible accidente, dejándola sin un centavo con una hipoteca y tres hijos, uno de los cuales está deshabilitado y otro que tiene problemas de aprendizaje que requieren una amplia gama de tutores privados? La representante de United Way humillada, totalmente golpeada, dice, "Lo siento, no tenía ni idea." Y el abogado le dice, "Así…que, si no le doy dinero a ellos, ¿qué demonios le hace pensar a usted que le daría dinero a ustedes…?" Gracias a Dios tenemos un número de gente extraordinariamente generosa en nuestra parroquia que nos ayuda a mantenernos solventes y capaces de crecer. También tenemos muchos que si nos ayudan en algo... Pero desafortunadamente también tenemos algunos que incluso cuentan a sus amigos que no dan nada a la iglesia o muy poco, y todavía vienen a conseguir cosas gratis aquí. A mí estas almas egoístas me parecen el pueblo más triste de todos, porque pierden totalmente el sentido y la alegría de venir a compartir de corazón. Y aunque no tengan excusas, aun así no dan. Y Pierden completamente el mensaje del Evangelio de generosidad ---opuestamente al de la viuda.

4º domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Para que podamos abrir nuestros corazones para recibir más plenamente todas las bendiciones simples y abundantes de Dios. "Hermanos y hermanas: me gustaría que

estén libres de ansiedades". (1 Corintios 7:32) ¿Cuánta ansiedad nos causamos al preocuparnos constantemente por no tener lo suficiente o por no lograr más cosas? Dios no necesariamente te dará todo lo que deseas, pero Él te proporcionará todo lo que necesites. Prueba esto: usa la palabra "orar" en lugar de la palabra "preocuparse" en el futuro.

LAUGH LINES: A small stuffed gorilla in a museum had begun to look a bit shabby and the museum engaged a taxidermist to recondition the animal. The taxidermist took the gorilla to his shop, finishing the job the next evening. So he put the gorilla in the back seat of his car and was returning it to the museum when a cop pulled him over for speeding. While writing the ticket, the cop delivered the usual lecture. He then peered into the gloomy interior of the car. “Who’s that?” he barked, shuddering visibly. “Oh her?” The taxidermist was not with a sense of humor, “Why, that’s my wife.” Slowly the cop began tearing up the ticket. “Drive on, fella,” he whispered, “you’ve got trouble enough.” Christian Clippings

Dia de Servicio con Jóvenes Adultos

Ven hacer "Manos y pies de Cristo" con cientos de Jóvenes Adultos de edades de 18-39 en el Día Arquidiocesano de Jóvenes Adultos día de servicio y oración el sábado, 17 de marzo del 2018. Equipos servirán ayudando a las víctimas de Harvey, al enfermo, al pobre, al que tiene hambre, prisioneros, y los inmigrantes. El día empieza a las 8:30am con la Santa Misa celebrada por el Obispo Sheltz, seguido por el desayuno y saldremos en equipos a servir alrededor de la ciudad.
