No te vayas temprano.

Przypada dzisiaj XXI Niedziela w Czasie Zwykłym. Skoro Pan domu wstanie i drzwi zamknie, wówczas stojąc na dworze, zaczniecie kołatać do drzwi i wołać: Panie, otwórz nam!; lecz On wam odpowie: Nie wiem, skąd jesteście. Wtedy zaczniecie mówić: Przecież jadaliśmy i piliśmy z Tobą, i na ulicach naszych nauczałeś. Lecz On rzecze: Powiadam

wam, nie wiem, skąd jesteście. Odstąpcie ode Mnie wszyscy dopuszczający się niesprawiedliwości! Tam będzie płacz i zgrzytanie zębów, gdy ujrzycie Abrahama, Izaaka i Jakuba, i wszystkich proroków w królestwie Bożym, a siebie samych precz wyrzuconych. Lecz On rzecze: Powiadam wam, nie wiem, skąd jesteście. Odstąpcie ode Mnie wszyscy dopuszczający się niesprawiedliwości!” Kiedy jemy i pijemy w towarzystwie Naszego Pana? „Tam będzie płacz i zgrzytanie zębów, gdy ujrzycie Abrahama, Izaaka i Jakuba, i wszystkich proroków w królestwie Bożym, a siebie samych precz wyrzuconych. „Wówczas stojąc na dworze, zaczniecie kołatać do drzwi i wołać: Panie, otwórz nam!; lecz On wam odpowie: Nie wiem, skąd jesteście”. Zdejmujemy nakrycia głowy przed wejściem do kościoła. Nigdy nie korzystamy z telefonów komórkowych w kościele. Wchodząc lub wychodząc z kościoła, robimy znak krzyża wodą święconą. Wchodząc i wychodząc z kościoła, klękamy przed tabernakulum. Vivat Iesus! Chwała Jezusowi!

FR. BOB’S BRIEFS We are back where we started. Do you remember? Five weeks ago, we began reading through Jesus’

Bread of Life Discourse in the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John. At the beginning of John 6, we read, “Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee. A large crowd followed him because they saw the signs he was performing on the sick.” At that place and time, Jesus miraculously multiplied the five barley loaves and two fish to feed 5,000 people. For the past five weeks, we have heard how this large multitude of people has been constantly been hanging around Jesus. Now, this week, we hear how this vast crowd of people leaves Jesus and go away.

Many of Jesus' disciples who were listening said, "This saying is hard; who can accept it?"Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, "Does this shock you? The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe." As a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him.” What a different scene it is today, compared to the scene from the previous four weeks. In the previous four weeks, we saw how thousands of people were all gathered around Jesus. Now, they all leave. Jesus is left by Himself by Sea of Galilee. We read in the Gospel of John today, “Jesus then said to the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave?" Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God." In the beautiful, but poignant image, we see Jesus left alone, except by the Twelve, His only remaining friends. Jesus stands in the center, looking out at the sunset over the Sea of Galilee. Only the Twelve remain with Jesus. So, we are back where we started: Jesus alone with the Twelve at the edge of the Seas of Galilee. It is a sad and somber scene as Jesus and the Twelve look out over the Sea of Galilee by themselves. Where did everybody go? This scene from today’s Gospel is not just a picture isolated to the past. Does this scene not replay throughout the passage of time? Does this scene not replay in our own time and age? Where are all the people? Next time you are at church, look around. What do you see? I saw no more than 70 people at any of the Masses for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary last week. The latest statistics show that 80-85% of Catholics do not go to Sunday Mass every week. Just like in today’s Gospel, everybody seems to have left Jesus. Only a few remain with our Lord. It is very ironic that people do not want communion with Jesus in this life, but they want communion with Jesus in heaven for eternal life. Explain to me how do people expect to have communion with God in heaven, if they do not have communion with God beginning here on earth? That’s the culmination and whole point of Jesus’ Bread of Life discourse that we have been hearing for the past five weeks. Jesus gives us His Flesh and Blood so that He can be in Communion with us. Our Lord desires to be one with, to be in union (com-munion) with you, me, and everybody. At Mass, you see the priest pour some water into the chalice filled with wine. When doing so, the priest prays: “By the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the divinity of Christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity.” St. Cyprian (210-258 AD) writes, “when the water is mingled in the cup with wine, the people are made one with Christ.”

However, for most people, we don’t want communion with God. We only follow after God, like the people in the Gospel, because we want God to give us things. God is like a type of Santa Claus, who is supposed to give me things in life. I read once somewhere that “God is not a ‘Cosmic Concierge’ who lives only to satisfy each and every one of our whims.” Yet, that is how we treat God too often in our life. “God give me this. God give me that.” We seek out God to get things from Him. Our God seeks us out to be close to us, to be in communion with us. The Latin root of communion is communio, meaning "fellowship, mutual participation, or association." The relationship that that Jesus is seeking with us is different than the relationship that we seek from Him. Jesus wants fellowship with us. Our Lord desires to share His Divine life and love with us. He asks the same question that He asked the Twelve earlier. "Do you also want to leave?" Do we stay with Jesus or do we leave Him?

Please pray for the safety of all who serve us in the military. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Good Help, help us with her maternal care, and may St. Joseph pray for us. Vivat Jesus! Live Jesus!

This Sunday, we celebrate the Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time. In the Gospel this week, we skip over most of chapter 13, and begin our reading in Luke 13:22. In this passage, we hear our Lord talk to us about the Narrow Door, Salvation and Rejection. St. Luke records our Lord saying: "Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough. After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door, then will you stand outside knocking and saying, 'Lord, open the door for us.' He will say to you in reply, 'I do not know where you are from. And you will say, 'We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.'

Then he will say to you, 'I do not know where you are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!' And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God and you yourselves cast out. And people will come from the east and the west and from the north and the south and will recline at table in the kingdom of God." Let us focus on the words that our Lord says: 'We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.' Then he will say to you, 'I do not know where you are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!' When do we eat and drink in our Lord’s company? We eat and drink in the Lord’s company at Mass. Moreover, the Mass is our participation in the Heavenly Banquet. In the Gospel today, our Lord uses the image of reclining at the table in the Kingdom of God, but not everyone will be admitted, as we see in this icon. “And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God and you yourselves cast out. And people will come from the east and the west and from the north and the south and will recline at table in the kingdom of God." The Mass is the earthly participation of the Heavenly Banquet, but most Catholics ignore and skip participation at Sunday Mass. (Just look around the church, see all the empty spaces) About 85% of Catholics don’t go to Mass every Sunday, but 100% of Catholics think they will go straight to heaven, just like the Blessed Mother! Why do we think that we will be invited to the Heavenly Banquet if we skip and ignore the invitation to come to the earthly participation of this Heavenly reality? “Then will you stand outside knocking and saying, 'Lord, open the door for us.' He will say to you in reply, 'I do not know where you are from.”

Even if we are the 15% that goes to Mass every week, what is our behavior like at Mass? “You will say, 'We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.' Then he will say to you, 'I do not know where you are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!” Just because we attend Mass does not mean that we have an automatic admission to the Banquet of Heaven. What is our behavior like at Mass? Fast before Mass. It is Church law that one fasts for at least 1 hour before receiving Holy Communion. Do we keep the fast? No Food and Drink in Church. Don’t chew gum in church. It breaks your fast, it’s distracting, it is considered impolite in a formal setting. Take your hats off inside church. Cell phones should never be used in Mass. Cross yourself with Holy Water on entering and leaving the church. When we enter and leave Church, genuflect toward the Tabernacle. Please be quiet while in church. Once you enter the sanctuary, it is not the time or place to visit with those around you. Bow before receiving Holy Communion. If it is God, then show your respect. Do not leave early. The Mass is a participation in the eternal liturgy of Heaven at which Christ is the celebrant. If we want to be admitted through the door of the Heavenly Banquet, we must be serious about our behavior in the Mass here on earth. Please pray for all people around the world who are sick, and in a special way all children around the world who are sick with cancer. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Good Help, help us with her maternal care and may St. Joseph pray for us. Vivat Jesus! Live Jesus!

It is hard to believe that we have been in school for five days. Only 179 more days to our summer carnival!

Smiling faces welcoming in the new school year! We have had a great start and I am pleased with the spirit among our children and faculty. Our Back to School Breakfast, sponsored by our Parent Club was very well received. It was truly nice to see so many parents in attendance. Our Opening of School Prayer Service on Wednesday set a nice tone for a successful school year! We will begin our normal Wednesday Mass this Wednesday. Please join us. Everyone worked hard this week and we celebrated the conclusion of our first week of school with an Ice Cream Social, sponsored by our Parent Club. Dining Out Night – Our first Dining Out Night of the year will be held this Thursday, August 29th at Potbelly from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Plan on joining us and help make this event a huge success. Remember, 25% of your bill is donated back to our school. Enrollment Still Open – Last week I mentioned in the bulletin that we would actively accept enrollment through Labor Day. We still have room in most grades and are looking in particular for three-year-old preschoolers, Kindergarteners and First graders. We would like to increase by ten, (10), children by mid-September. If you know of a family who may be interested, please have them contact me at the school office. Especially for our Hispanic families: The University of Notre Dane did a study showing that Catholic Schools had the biggest impact for academic achievement for Hispanic children. If you would like to see and/or talk about the study contact me through the school or rectory office. Queen of Hearts – We congratulate our winner Ms. Pamela Laibl for having her ticket drawn picking card #27. Card #27 revealed the 10 of diamonds. Our roller over jackpot begins at $7,120.00. Thank you for your continued support. Have a great Week. Lawrence Manetti, Principal
