1994 U.S. Senator Joseph Biden sponsors legislation called the Violence Against Women Act, as part of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. The legislation passes with bipartisan support of 226 sponsors in the House and 68 in the Senate.

President Bill Clinton signs the Violence Against Women Act of 2000 (VAWA 2000) into law (Division B of the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000).

Who are the frequent victims of domestic violence? Approximately 85% of the victims of domestic violence are women
