And so we start the season of festivities, family….and food! With Thanksgiving soon to be upon us, the Christmas holi-days are not far behind. Enjoying the gatherings and parties, also brings with them the cautions of drinking and driving. If you partake in even the smallest amount of alcohol, give someone else your keys

A Message from the Mayor: – don’t get behind the wheel. Planning on going out with a group of friends or family? Designate a driver to take you where you need to be. Enjoy all the holidays have to offer…responsibly. For you, for your family. Safe travels wherever they may take you this month! Mayor Gerald Joubert [email protected]

Disposal of Fats, Oils and Grease, & Pharmaceuticals It doesn’t stop at the kitchen sink .... Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG), the residue left over from cooking meats such as bacon that hardens after it cools, can cause problems when poured down the drain and clog pipes in your home. Did you know FOG can also clog the sewer pipes under the streets that take the waste-water from your house to the treatment plant? If that happens, the wastewater can back up and come to the surface and pollute the environment. To keep this from happening, collect FOG in a container and throw it away in the trash. Disposal of Pharmaceuticals: Pharmaceuticals flushed down the toilet end up in the wastewater system and cannot be treated at the waste-water treatment plants. Expired or unused medication should therefore not go down the drain or toilet, but should be thrown in the trash. Mix the prescription drugs with an undesirable substance such as used kitty litter or coffee grounds. Then put the mix in empty cans or seal-able bags and throw away in the trash. This further ensures that the drugs are not diverted or accidentally ingested by children or pets. By correctly disposing of pharmaceuticals, you reduce the risk of improper drug use in your home while protecting the environment.
