This qualification reflects the job roles of workers in the accounting industry, including BAS Agents and contract bookkeepers; and of those employees performing bookkeeping tasks for organisations in a range of industries. It includes preparing and lodging business and instalment activity statements and providing advice or dealing with the Commissioner on behalf of a taxpayer in relation to activity statements. Individuals in these roles apply theoretical and specialist knowledge and skills to work autonomously, and exercise judgement in completing routine and non-routine activities.
The FNS40217 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping comprises of thirteen (13) units, including eight (8) core units plus five (5) elective units. The elective units consist of:
• All 5 elective units may be selected from the elective units listed in the qualification
• Up to 2 elective units may be from Certificate III, IV or Diploma in any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course, provided they do not duplicate the outcome of another unit chosen for the qualification.
Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the integrity of Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) and contribute to a valid, industry supported vocational outcome. The elective units contained within this Training and

The target cohort for this qualification are international students who want to gain a basic accounting / bookkeeping qualification as a pathway for further learning. This qualification will assist students to gain knowledge and skills required for accounts administration, bookkeeper and accounts officer roles.
Our student cohort will be the recent graduates from high school and have competed 12 years of formal school study
All students must attend 20 hours per week face-to-face supervised training, which include Workshops / Lectures, Tutorials for activities and Project Tutorials;
All student attends a compulsory one-day induction prior to commencement of the course.
Assessment Strategy have been selected through industry consultation as being most appropriate for international students and industry.

Assessments
Amount of Training and Volume of Learning Method
There will be individual assessments for each unit of competency and major project as holistic assessment for the qualification, which include formal presentation. All students must satisfactorily all assessments to reach competency and receive a full qualification certificate.
Where only individual units are successfully completed, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for the units of competencies completed.

Regulatory or Licensing Authority
Work functions in the occupational areas where this qualification may be used are subject to regulatory requirements. Refer to the FNS Financial Services Training Package Companion Volume Implementation Guide or the relevant regulator for specific guidance on requirements.
Persons providing a business activity statement (BAS) service for a fee or other reward must be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) and this qualification is currently cited as meeting the TPB education requirements for registration.
Other conditions apply, including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent registration should check current registration requirements with the TPB, as registration requirements are reviewed regularly.

Qualification and Statement of Attainment
Fees for the Qualification
Student/s will be required to achieve competency in thirteen (13) units of competency (UOC) to successfully achieve qualification of FNS40217 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping. A completion that is less than Thirteen (13) successful UOC will result in the issuance of a Statement of Attainment.
The total fee for the qualification includes:
• Enrolment fee: $250 (non-refundable)
• Tuition fees: $ 9, 750 (this includes all course materials)
Vocational Skills Australia does not require international students to pay more than 50% of course fees prior to course commencement. However, Vocation Education Training Australia provides students with the opportunity to pay more than 50% of their tuition fees prior to course commencement if they wish. Generally fees are payable in equal instalments and the dates and amounts are included in the Course Acceptance Agreement.
Non-tuition fee/additional charges may apply and include:

Entry Requirements
All students must bring laptop in all classes, workshops and orientation with MS office 2013 or newer version, as well as the student version of MYOB.
All students are informed of the entry requirements prior to commencing a course through comprehensive brochures and marketing information. VSA’s enrolment procedure ensures students meet this requirement.
Entry requirements include:
• Students must be aged 18 years or above
• Completed Year 12 or equivalent
• LLN test CSPA (Core Skills Profile for Adults) from ACER
• Evidence of acceptable English language test course:

Students may choose to complete FNS30317 Certificate III in Accounts Administration or other relevant qualification/s prior to commencing FNS40217 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping.
After successful completion of FNS40217 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, candidate may undertake any of the following pathways;
• FNS50217 Diploma of Accounting
• The candidate may also undertake any other qualification of Diploma level under Financial Services Training Package.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Graduates at this level will have theoretical and practical knowledge and skills for specialized and/or skilled work and/or further learning Examples job roles include Accounts Clerk, Receivable / payable officer, bookkeeper and payroll officer.
Students are able to have their competency from prior learning and work experience recognized in this qualification through the following arrangements:
VSA will provide RPL guides and documentation to Students that explains the entire process. RPL is the acknowledgement of skills and knowledge obtained through formal or informal training, Work and life experiences.
• If a student has previously completed training or has course-related skills and experience, he or she may be eligible for RPL.
• Applications for RPL will be assessed on an individual basis. Each applicant will need to provide the necessary documentation.Documentation of prior learning is the most common form of evidence, however there are other forms of evidence including: third party observations, self-assessment reviews, verbal questioning, phone interviews and real work samples such as log books, lesson plans, meeting minutes etc. RPL applications must be assessed as early as possible.
• All evidence documents will be assessed against the following rules of evidence:

Students may also apply for a credit transfer upon enrolment and this may reduce their course duration, refer VSA recognition of prior learning and credit transfer policy and procedure.
The following Learning Resources will be available free of cost to students enabling them to absorb the required skills and knowledge:

• Supplementary resources including articles / web references / workplace policies, procedures and sample documents (material provided as handout / link / reference)
• Reference books such Accounting: An Introduction to Principles and Practice, Cengage Learning
• PowerPoint handouts.

• Access to bathroom facilities, parking, meal and drink facilities and transport;

• Simulated workplace equipment such as tables and chairs, meeting rooms, telephones, computers and associated software, printers, scanners and projectors
