From the Potentate

July is an important month forZuhrah Shrine and all of the 196 organ-izations in Shriners International. It wasthe 42nd Imperial Session at the homeof Shriners International and ShrinersHospitals for Children, Tampa, Florida.Thank you to Claire and Brad Robertsfor managing the pilgrimage.Mary and Isend a special thank you to all of thePotentate’s Aides for working very hardto make the entire event great and to allwho attended as we made memories. There were 33 nobles and ladies whoattended a Potentate’s dinner aboardthe Starship Yacht on Sunday night.Weshared the event with 16 nobles ofOsman Shrine. The service was greatand food on board was fantastic.

Monday began the sessions and theladies luncheon. Sixteen Zuhrah Ladiesheaded to the Ulele Restaurant alongthe river walk. All the ladies mentionedthat the food and ambiance of therestaurant were fantastic. Some of theladies also took part in the brewery tourand sampled some of the micro brews. Most of the ladies also attended theImperial Ladies luncheon on Tuesday.

Monday evening was the ImperialParade through the historic streets ofYbor City. Even though the tempera-ture and humidity were both high, theparade went on. This was the firstappearance of the new Zuhrah bannerproudly displaying that We are Zuhrah –We Make a Difference. Tuesday was theWalk for Love and the Ballyhoo atChannelside.Wednesday was the PublicRelations report where we met thenew patient ambassadors. You will bereceiving a more detailed report of theImperial Session from your ImperialRepresentative, Bill Vice.

What can be better than a bunch ofShriners on a bus trip? What’s even bet-ter if that trip is to Heaven? OK,maybeit’s Iowa. There were twenty travelersand a Shrine bus driver Tim Davisonwho ventured to the great state of Iowa.

We had really nice weather,a great stopfor lunch at the Branding Iron inPreston, Minnesota, another at theVesterheim Museum and Store inDecorah, Iowa, then finally the Amanacolonies in Iowa. The group spent threedays and nights in Amana.Yes, the placewhere the Amana freezers, refrigeratorsand air conditioners were made. Thefactory is still in operation but is nowowned by Whirlpool Corporation.Amana has seven colonies that are ofGerman decent. They came to Iowa andpurchased 26,000 acres of the river val-ley in order to practice their religiousfreedoms. From the 1850’s to 1932,Amana were communal colonies. Wevisited many of the farms, kitchens, mills, and shops that used to provide foreveryone in the community. In 1932, alarge explosion of their mills along withdesires for personal growth and theirchildren’s education, it was the year ofchange in the colonies.Yet, their abilitiesremain.Their quality and workmanshipin manufacturing clocks, furniture, andwoolen products was incredible. Thewine and food were outstanding.Unlikeother groups that reject technology, theAmana colonies take advantage of whatis available for technology. What makesthe area so unique is how they maintainand cherish their history, culture, beliefsand ways of life.

What’s the one thing that’s asAmerican as Apple Pie? That is Baseball. On the last day of our four-day bus tripwe visited a bucket list stop to one of themost iconic baseball fields in America. The movie set where Fields of Dreamswas filmed in Dyersville, Iowa. The pho-tograph was the first ghost baseball play-er coming on to the field. He was even-tually joined by nine other players, one ofwhom was one of the players that was inthe movie. The players made their wayonto the field, then into the crowdswhere they each chose a young boy orgirl to participate with them on the field. Each would get a chance to bat and runthe bases. There were never any outs andeveryone scored a run.The players alsoasked,“Who has traveled the furthest?”The responses were Oregon,California,Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Finally onefamily stood up and said Scotland.Thisgoes to show that something like amovie and a corn field in Iowa can bringtogether people from all around theworld.

There is still one more chance tomake memories with your fellownobles and ladies.Anyone for a boattrip to Canada and New England?

We are Zuhrah – We Make a Difference

Saturday, August 13thAt the last Stated Meeting there was a conversation about

how many months in a row the nobles at Zuhrah have turnedin petitions. As you can see our number now stands at 56.To some it is only a number and the drive to bring in newmembers is no longer there. Truth be told, your membershipteam has scrambled at a few Stated Meetings this year tocome up with a single petition.

The number 56 is a statement of pride in our temple and aremembrance of the year when Tony Krall and Zuhrah Strongturned our membership numbers around. Our nextCeremonial will be on August 13th in Spicer—your nextopportunity to turn in a petition and change that number to57 will be at the Steak and Corn Feed Meeting on August 12th.

The Divan Ladies are developing a Ladies Mentoring program in tandem with the Zuhrah Strong MembershipCommittee. One feature of the program is direct communication to the Ladies about events happening at Zuhrah forthe Noble's Lady and family, Zuhrah Ladies Connect.Another aspect is personal contact with the new Noble Lady dur-ing the time the noble is going through the Ceremonial. In the near future The Zuhrah Ladies Guidebook will serve asan information resource tool, and will be available at www.zuhrah.org, LadiesInfo (tab in the upper right corner).

Do you have a question? Email it to [email protected] and you will receive a response from a member ofthe Ladies Mentoring team.

Do you know a Lady who would like to be added to the Ladies Connect communications? Email her name to [email protected].

a roaring success. If you did not get a chance to attend make your 2017 calendars for Saturday, May 20, 2107.

Our June Board of GovernorsMeeting was held in Rochester at theMayo facilities. This is the first time ourBoard has had the opportunity to meetwith the Mayo staff since the Twin CitiesUnit joined the Mayo Clinic CareNetwork. It was interesting to tour theirChildren’s Center and see the similaritiesto Shriners. When you first enter theChildren’s Center, the decor looked likeyou were walking into a ShrinersHospital. Their vision is very closelyaligned to Shriners Mission and Vision –basically to provide the highest qualitymedical care to children within a passion-ate, family-centered and collaborativecare environment. Conduct research todiscover new knowledge that improvesthe quality of care and quality of life ofchildren and families. To become the bestat transforming children’s lives by provid-ing exceptional healthcare through inno-vative research, in a patient and familycentered environment. We also sharedsome of the goals of our collaborativerelationship with the Mayo Staff.

There are currently several of theMayo physicians who are seeing patientsin our Outpatient Clinic as well as theTwin Cities Shriners doctor performingsome surgeries at the Mayo facilities.Weare looking forward to a long relation-ship with Mayo.

Until next month, thanks to all theUnits and Clubs for their continuedsupport for our Hospital.

Greetings from the Zuhrah AntiqueCars Unit!

These last few weeks have beenbusy for us here in the ZAC.

Our Summer push of seven paradesin nineteen days was a big success.Westarted out doing the Fridley 49er Daysparade for the first time, then moved tothe Celebrate Northeast Minneapolisparade just five days later. After a short, three day rest we headed to parades inBlaine, Henderson and Roseville onconsecutive days. All three of these arenew parades that really liked our show-ing.We finished off with a doubleheaderon the 4th of July in Delano and AppleValley. Those seven parades representedmore than we did all of last year, and wecouldn't have done it without the greatsupport of our ZAC brothers.Congratsand HUGE thank yous to all!

Early in the month of August we haveanother big weekend of paradesplanned as we return to Watkins onSaturday, August 6, and come back toLeSueur for the first time in many yearson Sunday, August 7, as a part of theGiant Celebration. We hope to see asmany brothers as possible as these areparades that historically have been verysupportive of the Shriners and ourmany charitable works. As always ourParade Captain appreciates knowing in

advance if you are able or unable toappear in specific parades.

One tradition that we have broughtback is stopping for fellowship afterparades. This gives us a real opportunityto connect with each other and ourfamilies. We stopped at Famous Dave’safter Roseville, and Karl Flick hosted apicnic after our 4th of July parades(Thanks again, Karl!). We'll be stoppingafter the Le Sueur and Watkins paradesso be sure to watch your email forupcoming details!

Can members still parade if theydon’t have a car? Absolutely! ThisSummer my parade vehicle has been inthe shop. However I got to drive a 1957Buick and a 1957 Chevy in parades(thanks Wayne Fanjoy and DickRussell!). Many of our members havemore than one classic vehicle and willallow other ZAC members to use oneof theirs in order to participate. It’sgreat brotherhood in action, and whereelse can you drive a classic car withoutpressure to buy it??! In addition thereare many opportunities for our paradesand displays that don't involve drivingsuch as photography and video, organ-izing, social media and communications.

Speaking of static displays, in July inlieu of a Burger Run we were at theZuhrah Shrine Center for the IceCream Social and picnic. This is a greatevent and it was great to see our classiccars on display.

Our monthly Burger Runs are fun andvery popular. These are on the 4thWednesday of every month starting at 6p.m.at preselected restaurants. You don’tneed to be a member to join in the funand spouses are always welcome! Weare always looking for great ideas ofplaces to go, so if you have a place youthink we would enjoy please let us know.

ZUHRAH SHRINERS – UNITS

Greetings Nobles, Ladies andFriends,

As I am writing this article, theSteel Drum Band just completed avery busy stretch in our schedule. We performed in five parades overseven days: Forest Lake and AppleValley on July 4th, Isanti on July 7th,Litchfield on July 9th andRobbinsdale on July 10th. We wrapon July parades in Mound onSaturday the 16th. Each of theseparades has their own unique feel;but the crowds are very similar. Each has greeted us enthusiasticallyand with many pleasant shout outs.We also enjoy seeing all the paradegoers’ smiles, sways/dance movesand their clapping to our music. Itis also amazing how fast people areable to get their phone out to grab apicture or video of us as we ride by.

The band had a very pleasantsurprise at the Robbinsdale WhizBang Days parade. Our DirectorEmeritus Jim Burlingame, Sr. PP,joined us on the float. I don’t knowwho had more enjoyment, the Bandhearing Jim’s familiar voice sing orJim for being on the float interact-ing with the crowd. It was also nicehaving Ron Peterson join us for afew parades while he was in town.

On Sunday, July 10th, the Steel DrumBand performed in the Robbinsdale

Whiz Bang Days Parade. Pictured herebefore the start of the parade are, left to

Our August parade schedule is:• Watkins’ Kraut N’ Wurst (6th)• LeSueur’s Giant Celebration (7th) • Gaylord’s Eggstravaganza (13th) • Kimball’s Kimball Days (14th).

If you are able to attend any ofthese parades, please stop by thefloat in the staging area before theparade or give us a shout out whenwe ride by. If you are a noble andare interested in learning moreabout the Steel Drum Band, pleasecontact me or any member of theband. We continue to look for newmembers. Learning how to play apan or one of our percussioninstruments is fairly easy.

Kudos go out to QuartermasterKeith Braiedy for keeping the vanclean, gassed and in proper work-ing order for each parade and toTop Chef Brian Busch for being

our grill master before the AppleValley and Isanti parades.

The Sunshine Committeereports Nobles Tom Lind and BenKuehnel continue to recover andhave been able to join us in someparades. Our thoughts continue tobe with Sandy and Arnie Segal.

August birthday wishes go outto Ladies Sunny Pich (18), SunnyReiners (21) and Nancy Rust (27)and Nobles Dean Yorston (4), TedBurlingame (11), Jim Burlingame,Sr. PP (13), Ed Reiners (18) andJohn “Grumpy” Garton (20).Anniversary congrats go out tonobles and their ladies Cookie andTed Burlingame (20) and Linda andJim Burlingame Jr (24).

In last month’s article I men-tioned our newest member, Dannythe Drummer. Well, Danny madehis debut at our parades on the 4thand has been well received by boththe band members and the paradegoers. Danny is a second cousin toFezzy the Love to the RescueAmbassador for our Hospitals.Danny rides on the side rail of thefloat sporting a fez and a Hawaiianshirt playing his maracas.

To continue the series on thequestions the Band receives atparades:

Q: “Why are there parrots onyour float?” And now: “What is thatbear doing playing the maracas?”

Boy, how the summer zips by whenyou’re having fun! The July paradeswhipped by with many memories ofparading through crowds that had tostretch their necks out just to catch aglimpse of the performers. The EaganParade was fantastic, and the AppleValley Parade was the fullest we’veever seen with crowds looking to beover twelve lines deep! We finishedout July with parades in Hinckley,Mound, Hopkins and Wabasha andbegin August with a “Triple-Threat”weekend in Pine City,Watkins, and LeSueur. Our parade season is halfwaythrough as I write, and by the time youread this, we’ll be nearly through theseason and beginning to think aboutschool starting and the Holidays!

This year was the best summer I havebeen through since becoming a MasterMason and joining the Zuhrah Shrineorganization and the Cobra Corps Unit. With three little kids between the agesof 4 and 7 years old, we realized howmuch fun the events are for our family. My kids are always asking when the nextevent or parade will be. On July 4th, ourfamilies were hosted by Royce“Snapper” and Pat McEwen for break-fast to fill our bellies for the back-to-back parades, followed by an afternoonpicnic hosted by Mark “Lips” and JoOlsen which debuted “Smashed” foodtruck operated by our very own, Brad“Buster” Bolz. You will definitely need tofind this food truck next time you arefeeling a little hungry.... boy was it goodand hopefully you will be seeing themaround at other Zuhrah events.

We were honored with the companyof Zuhrah’s First Ceremonial Master, JonPavola, and his Lady Jean and Zuhrah’s2nd Ceremonial Master, Chaz Miller, andhis Lady Lynn and their boys at our pic-nic; we received a special Installation ofOfficers Ceremony. We want to ThankYou again for coming and for everythingyou do in our organization.

Cobra Corps families together on theFourth having fun

Brad “Buster” Bolz food truck “Smashed”

The parade in Hinckley has tradition-ally been one of our favorite weekendswith some of the nicest streets for us toslide on! We also get to stay overnightat the Olsen’s Cabin on Cross Lake forour annual “Stag Weekend” where weeat the best pizza in the world, enjoy

pontoon rides, tubing, bonfire, fellowship, and can even walk away with a new“Special” nickname. There were alsolong talks of various nicknames for ournew Rookies that have made the cut. Some are interesting (Twisted Metal,Shark Bait, Red Slammer) some are fun(Driving Miss Daisy,Twinkle Toes,Sleepy),and some are bad (Too bad to list in theArabian, but mostly thought of by Lips,Snapper, and Radar)....so hopefully by thenext Arabian we will be able to formallyannounce our latest team members, andyou can find them on the streets by see-ing their name plate on the side of theirmachine. Come to think of it... I haven’thad a name plate on my machine sincestarting, so I wonder if they’ll ever getone....or maybe someone is waiting toget a “multi-plate” discount for printing.Either way, I’m sure they’ll get doneeventually and if not, then that justmeans more funds can go back to theShriners Hospitals and back to Zuhrah!

Rider Mark “Lips” Olsen in July 4thParade

As for family news, we have officiallywelcomed little Jemma Rae Ernesti intothe world on Saturday, June 18th, andwant to congratulate both Justin “Ajax”and Marit Ernesti as well as Grandma Joand Grandpa Mark “Lips” Olsen.

As you can tell, we’ve had a great fewmonths of parading, entertaining, picnicsand food trucks, boating, bonfires, andjust enjoying each other’s friendship andcamaraderie. For anyone who wouldlike to get in on the fun in 2017, pleasecontact Captain Royce “Snapper”McEwen at 952-412-5789 or email himat [email protected] andplease follow us on Facebook to hearabout more events.

A: For years Steve Downs hasbeen taking care of two parrotswhile he plays his pans. He hasthese parrots as steel drums arecommon to the Caribbean. Parrotsare also common to the Caribbean. Many bands that include steeldrums also include parrots in theirname or as part of their act. Manyof Jimmy Buffet’s songs featurethe steel drum and his fans areaffectionately call Parrotheads.

As a second cousin to Fezzy,Danny the Drummer recently joinedthe band to help draw attention to thefun we have as Shriners in supportingour hospitals. In the few paradesDanny has performed in the kids andmany adults have really noticed himwaving his American flag or playinghis maracas. As we are frequentlyasked about our parrots or Danny, itallows us to talk to parade goers aboutour fraternity and or our hospitals.

Finally, in closing here is aquote from WB GeorgeWashington in his address to theOfficers of the Virginia Regimenton January 8, 1756: “Rememberthat it is the actions, and not thecommission, that make the officer, and that there is more expectedfrom him, than the title.”

This tells one one thing: we needmore new and active members. If youare a Guardian and healthy, living in theTwin Cities area, why aren’t you com-ing to our monthly stated meetings? ZUHRAH SHRINERS – UNITS

Greetings from the Horsemen!Summer is in full gear and we love

it! Stop by the Ranch and spend somefun filled moments with us. The signoutside the ranch house says it all.

Let’s get you caught up on recentgoings on and give you a glimpse ofthings to come.

RECENT ACTIVITIES

Shriner’s Hospital “CampAchieve” at the Ranch on 21 June

As mentioned in last month’s Arabianissue, the Horsemen were THRILLEDto have patients from the Twin CitiesShriners Hospital come to the Ranchfor a tour, LOTS of horse rides, andmuch more fun. The event occurredafter the due date for last month’s arti-cle so we did not have any details orpictures of all the fun.We do now!

A total of fourteen patients in the 5-9year age range along with three hospitalstaff came to the Ranch for a morning ofhorse rides, watching a farrier put shoes onhorses, running around having fun,and thena picnic lunch. Below are a photos of thefun. And the kids got real horseshoes totake home as a souvenir of the morning!

Following the fun at the Ranch, theHorsemen were thrilled to have beenable to arrange a boat ride on LakeMinnetonka for everyone to enjoy!During the boat ride, one of the hospi-tal patients gave us all a good life-lesson.The little patient was walking to go geta soda and one of the hospital staff toldher to be careful and not to fall. Theresponse was, “You have to learn toface your fears!” A life-lesson for us all.

Parades! The Horsemen have had a lot of fun

representing Zuhrah at a number ofarea parades over the past month orso. Some of the highlights have been…

The first step is getting horses andequipment to the parade location.TheHorsemen have a semi-trailer thatholds quite a few horses and neededgear. The horses easily load into thetrailer and patiently ride to the awaitingadoring crowds.

Once at the parade location, horsesare unloaded and the work of gettingsaddles and reins put on, along withglitter on the hooves, begins.

With preparation work done, thetroop is ready and eager to parade andhave fun with the crowds. Even thehorses “ham” it up a bit…

Some highlights from recentparades are:• 18 June in St.Louis Park was the season’s

first parade and had ten Horsemen par-ticipating.The troop did some maneu-vers during the parade, which went quitewell in spite of being rusty from the win-ter. The Minneapolis Mounted Policewere also in the parade, albeit a waysback from the Horsemen. The policetold us later they had several spectatorscall out,“Why only ride in a straight line?Do some cool patterns like theShriners!” How about that!

• 21 June was the evening NorthEastMinneapolis parade. (The same day asthe Camp Achieve hospital childrenevent at the Ranch…made for a longday but it was worth it!).There weretwelve Horsemen making a showingfor Zuhrah.

• 24 June was a LOUD crowd at theColumbia Heights parade.Several horsesgot spooked by the noise and actions ofthe crowd but horsemanship and train-ing prevailed and all ended well. ElevenHorsemen participated.

• 4 July was double duty for theHorsemen. At the Delano parade inlate morning, the Horsemen fieldedeleven horses and riders as part ofMinnesota’s oldest 4 July parade.Afterthat, nine horses and their equipmentwere quickly loaded and went to AppleValley for their parade in the early after-noon.After the Apple Valley parade, wewere hot, tired, and sweaty but filledwith pride when a young motherapproached us and thanked us for beingShriners. Her son is a patient at theTwin Cities Hospital. The mother wasextremely appreciative of the excellentcare that her son and entire family was

receiving from the Shriners.Yes…hot, tired, and sweaty…but we felt great!

• 9 July saw eleven Horsemen and theirsteeds participate in the Lakevilleparade. This is always a good paradeand the crowds are HUGE. It seemsattendance gets bigger every year…great community awareness buildingfor Zuhrah!

Part of the fun of parades is inter-acting with the crowds… especiallychildren, who all seem to love horses.Below the Horsemen put the troopnose-in at the curb so children cancome a pet the horses. The kids love itand the horse just soak it up!

Following each parade, CaptainDennis Myron has the troop assemblefor a short de-brief of the parade and tothank all who either rode or providedground support.

After the writing of this article, butprior to your reading it, the Horsemenparticipated in more parades, whichincluded:• 16 July in Belle Plain• 23 July in Shoreview

For upcoming parades where theHorsemen will be riding, please seethe listing in the “Looking to theFuture” section below.

“Best Wishes” Cook-out forBrian and Mikey

29 June saw a cook-out recognizingthe many years of service and the retire-ments of Ranch Manager Brian andRanch hand Mikey. If our math is correct, the two have a combined 30 years ofworking at the Horseman Ranch! Astokens of the Horsemen’s appreciation, each was presented with a plaque recog-nizing them for their service.

Horsemen Team PenningFor some Horsemen,“team penning” is

off to a fun start this year. In team penning, eight numbered cows are at one end ofthe arena. As the riders cross the mid-lineof the arena, the announcer calls outwhich three numbered cows are to beseparated from the herd and driven to theother end of the arena, in that numberorder.Cows running back and forth,hors-es and riders going back and forth, cou-pled with whooping and hollering makesfor a lot of fun as well as a great opportu-nity to improve horsemanship skills.Below is one of the groups of Horsemenenjoying the fun event that occurs almostevery weekend during the summer.

LOOKING TO THE FUTUREHere are a few of the fun things

coming up in the months ahead andwe are sure more events and activitieswill be added in coming weeks.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHTThis month a tip of the Stetson goes

to Horseman Brad Randall.Brad has been a

Horseman for onlythree years but heis making a bigimpact. This seemsnatural given Brad’sfamily has a longhistory with theHorsemen. Brad’s

uncle was a Horseman and Brad’s grand-father, Earle Anderson, Jr., was Captain in1983. The Horsemen’s clubroom isnamed in Earle’s honor. Brad is quiteinvolved in several ways. Seeing a needfor another driver for the Horsemen’ssemi-trailer, Brad stepped up and com-pleted the course work and testing toget his Commercial Drivers License andneeded endorsements to drive ourhorses from the Ranch to parades, etc.At Cowboy Brunches, Brad in thekitchen to start cooking early and hestays late to help with cleanup. And Bradloves to ride… specially parades wherehe has fun interacting with the crowds.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, Girls andBoys” was the chant introducing all theacts at this year’s Birak Shrine Circus.Tigers, camels, clowns, jugglers, high flyingrope performers, motorcycles, elephantsand a man shot out of a cannon were allpart of the excitement as people of allages were thrilled with the show.

This year we had the opportunity tosell the novelties and with the help ofsome of the circus employees this provedto be a successful venture.Attendance atthe afternoon shows showed an increaseover last year and the attendance of allshows combined were above average.

Parades – July is our busiest monthfor parades for our Kar Kor group aswe drove in 13 parades in July alone.Friday and Saturday, July 8 & 9, we drovein five parades! We have a nucleous ofabout 12-15 active drivers who committo participate in the parades as theirschedules will allow so we certainlykeep busy.We will finish out with fourAugust parades and two in September.

Upcoming Events – August 21 is theannual Birak Golf Outing, and the PostCircus Supper has be set for September17. October 3 is our Fall Stated Meeetingwhere we will have election of officers.

Something to think about –Chocolate comes from cocoa, which isa tree. That makes it a plant . . . sochocolate is a salad. ENJOY!

Have a great rest of the summerand keep the shiny side up.

On June 23, it was a gorgeousevening. Temperature was 78 degrees, low humidity, and sunny.

On that evening, MVSC members, their ladies and guests—a total of 32—enjoyed themselves on the shores ofLake Kingsley on the patio of theCharthouse Restaurant in Lakeville.Good food, beverages, and live music wasdelightful but most of all,we enjoyed thefriendship of our MVSC family.

We were joined by our Chief Rabban(next year’s Potentate) Mike LaVineand his Lady Colleen, in addition to ourDivan Liaison Jason Sagstetter and hisLady Holly. MVSC also welcomed PastPotentate (1987) Tom Fjelde and LadyMarge. We look forward to them visit-ing us again in the near future.

It was a nice to see Ron and BarbHechsel. This was Ron’s first timeback at MVSC since his March heart sur-gery. It was also nice to see Ray andSherisa Littlefield at our Charthousesummer get-to-gether.Ray just became anew Shriner and MVSC member in May.

Birdie Olson and Rich Lyons areespecially proud of Birdie’s son who justbecame a Master Mason. We congratu-late Mark Hines on joining our Masonicbrotherhood. We were pleased to seeMark and his Lady Sue join us for theevening at the Charthouse and hope tosee them at more of our events.

A fun evening was enjoyed by all ona beautiful summer evening.

Two days later on June 25, MVSCmembers, ladies and guests (a group of27) enjoyed a river boat cruise on theMississippi River from downtown St Paulthrough lock and dam #1 to Minneapolisand returned to Harriet Island.

We were joined by Past PotentateTed Martz and Lady Lori, Zuhrah'sDivan members Jon Pavola and CurtQuast with his Lady Heather. TomDanielson and Lady Marian wereguests of Jim and LindaSchwanebeck. Carl Hanson’s datefor the cruise was his cousin EdHansen. This is not a typo—they arecousins with the same last name butspelled differently. Kevin Raley was

Have you read “For want of a horse-shoe nail a horse was lost and the knightlost the battle?” That is from old history, but today for want of a pop tab!!, awheel chair was not made and a childnot served. Those little aluminum tabsturn into wheel chairs.

Each one of you and your neighborshelped fill a 20-foot truck with thousandsof tabs. The “GOOD BOOK” says go outand command the people to come to a“Great Feast” and bring your “pop tabs.”

A special note, a lady who graduatedfrom Washburn High School in 1952—Jane Paul, who lives in Westminster,California—has been sending and bring-ing me pop tabs for several years. Shelikes the philosophy of Shriners Hospitals. She now is going to start a collection ofplaces for people to leave the pop tabsand send to us.“Go and do likewise.”

Our Club adds to our Hospital bymaking those Hard Durham Wheatround things. The secret formula keepspeople coming back – for 67 years.Thenext breakfast is Sunday, September18.You will receive your tickets soon.Go and sell them.

A good conversation for your LaborDay Plans: a family that has helped ourGreat Feast has a daughter, now a col-lege graduate in the hospitality industryand Past Honored Queen of Bethel 39.One last graduation requirement ofStout College is to plan and put on acomplete event. Mary Kipp selected agolf outing and gathered fellow studentsand professors to participate. She raised$1,700 for our SHRINERS HOSPITAL.Thank you, Mary.

As the book says,“Go and do likewise.”Our next gathering is on Tuesday,

September 6th, at “Frankie’s” located at36th Ave. and Winnetka in a small shop-ping mall.We continue to be nomads.

See you there, 5:30 to 6:00 p.m.
