“First Smash 3” Art Project by

Art Experience Foundation

Established by the founder of Art Experience Gallery, Art Experience Foundation is proud to present the 3rd edition of “First Smash” Art Project. Following the success of the two editions in 2013 and 2014, “First Smash 3” has extended the eligibility to applicants allowing more potential young artists to participate and enrich art forms. The organizer provides an exhibition space of 2500 square feet and all necessary assistance to the finalists, to showcase their ideas and inspirations to the public in a group show at Art Experience Gallery in 2016! About Art Experience Foundation Founded in 2013 by the owner of Art Experience Gallery, Mr. Jacky Yeung, the Foundation serves as a platform for potential artists in the field of contemporary art, to encourage upcoming young artists to exhibit their work, and on the other hand to raise the art appreciation of the community. Each year the Foundation organizes an art project for local art students and independent artists to join, giving the opportunity to young artists to show their work at Art Experience Gallery by curating a group exhibition at gallery standard for the finalists, as well as providing all necessary installation support. It aims to open doors for young artists to achieve their goal in developing an art career, and to get a taste of the real industry. The Foundation organizes different art and cultural activities for the public to join from time to time, including seminar and workshop collaborate with artists and curators, bringing art into people’s everyday life. About “First Smash 3” Art Project This project calls for all art submission (any art forms) from local final year and graduated art students, as well as Hong Kong based self-sufficient artists (any nationalities). It aims to discover the most inspiring, thought-provoking and contagious artwork to present at the “First Smash 3” Art Exhibition. The show will take place at Art Experience Gallery in July – August 2016 curate by the organizer. Each selected artist will exhibit one art piece at the exhibition. Participation in the art project will be selected by Art Experience Foundation team and a panel of established artists and art related performers.

Application - An individual aged or under 45 years old who fulfills the following criteria is eligible to apply: - **Will be living in Hong Kong in the next 10 months. Category: 1. Student - Art students who graduated last year or in their final year of an art related courses from any

higher education institutions in Hong Kong. 2. Independent Artist - Currently Hong Kong based self-sufficient artist (any nationalities), who has never participated in

any commercial exhibitions, and or any forms of collaboration with commercial galleries.  Important Dates - Application deadline: 31st January 2016 - Panel interview: March 2016 - Confirmation of finalists: Late March 2016 - Exhibition dates: July – August 2016 Procedure 1. Application submission - Download application form from below website: www.artexperiencefoundation.org / www.artexperiencegallery.com - Fill and sign the application form, together with the artist’s CV, artwork statement (no less than

500 words), artwork images or sketches (no less than 3pcs.), send to [email protected] (Subject title: First Smash 3 Art Project Submission).

- Each applicant may submit one artwork, however it is acceptable if the artwork is formed by more than one component and need to be presented as ‘one unit’ in order to deliver a full concept.

- Artwork images or sketches format: resolution 300dpi, jpeg; sketches and or semi-finished artwork photos are acceptable if the work has not yet been created or completed.

- Artist’s CV and artwork statement format: word / pdf, can be written in Chinese or English. - Letters of recommendation from teachers or established artists can be attached.

2. Confirmation of Application - The applicant will be notified by email to the confirmation of their application. Should any

applicants fail to receive a confirmation letter two weeks after their submission, please contact the organizer to ensure that the application has been processed.

- Decisions of admission are made exclusively by Art Experience Foundation, all applicants will be notified by email or phone to the outcome of their application.

3. Selection Procedure Selection for participation in the art project is divided into two phases: - 1st phase: Art Experience Foundation panel will select applicants to enter the 2nd phase selection,

selected applicants will need to attend a face-to-face panel interview, and to introduce the artwork in person.

- 2nd phase: the finalists will be carefully selected by a panel of established artists and art related performers. Final result will be announced in late March 2016.    Terms and Conditions  1. Application Submission - Submission of artwork can be in any media or form that has completed for no longer than 2 years.

Applicants guarantee that the artwork submitting for this project is authentic, and has not been exhibited in any commercial exhibitions or contest participation.

- Submitted images of the finalists’ artworks will be used for publishing and online promotion. - Applicants must ensure that all information provide to the organizer is correct, accurate and

complete. 2. Panel Interview - Selected applicants will be invited to attend a face-to-face panel interview. All finalists will also

need to attend the exhibition opening ceremony and all necessary press related events. 3. Installation and Dismantling - Finalists must be responsible for installation and dismantling of the artwork on assigned dates. - Artwork must not be withdrawn until the end of the exhibition. Dismantling must be completed

within the designated period. On expiry of this period, the organizer is entitled to undertake dismantling and removal of exhibits.

4. Transportation - This project is entirely free for all applicants; however, it is the applicant’s obligations for artwork

transportation to and from the exhibition venue as well as insurance arrangement (if applicable).

5. Insurance - The applicant should obtain full insurance coverage for loss or damage to artwork and properties

during the exhibition period. The organizer will not be liable to any direct, incidental or consequential damage or loss to applicants’ property. Applicants may consider to arrange artwork and third party insurance during the exhibition period.

6. Acceptance of the Conditions - Upon submitting the application form with legal signature, the applicant acknowledges the

acceptance of the project regulations as being binding upon themselves. - The application does not constitute any claim to admission to the exhibition. The organizer

reserves the right to terminate the applicant’s participation or to remove any exhibiting objects if the applicant fails to follow this clause.
