Welcome to Week 7 of Term 2. PUBLIC SPEAKING Congratulations to all of our Public Speakers. Mrs Veronica McNaught will be guest judge for our final round of school speeches. Two students from Stage 2 and two students from Stage 3 will progress from this final round to perform for members of the Finley Lion’s Club. A special congratulations to all of those students who had a go. Public Speaking is a very difficult and demanding task and by all accounts the speeches were all of the highest quality throughout our school rounds. RIVERINA CROSS COUNTRY Good luck to our students who are competing in the Riverina Zone Cross Country in Deniliquin today. PSSA GIRLS SOCCER Well done to our soccer girls who won through to the next round of the PSSA Girls Soccer Knockout on Friday. The girls won 2-0 against Edward Public School in Deniliquin. Mrs Cole was very excited by their achievements and we are now looking forward to taking on our next opponents over the coming weeks. PAUL KELLY CUP This Friday the girls’ football team will be heading over to Deni South to compete in the Paul Kelly Cup Round Robin. We have two teams entered this year and all of the girls are very excited. Just a reminder to the parents involved that we will need parent transport on the day so please let us know if you are able to help out with travel. TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT Once again we have a crazy week for Training and Development. On Thursday we will have all of the Kindergarten and Stage 1 teachers out after recess. We have managed to secure our regular casuals so student learning will continue as per ususal. It is certainly a juggling act to ensure that our staff continues to be involved in Training and Development whilst still maintaining a focus on the classroom. I am very happy with our structures and the way that classes are kept consistent so that even when shared out, the teachers on each class are already well known to the students. JELLY BEAN DAY Don’t forget Jelly Bean Day this Friday. Our SRC are coordinating a day where students dress in jelly bean colours and bring a gold coin donation to support Diabetes Research. This is a very worthy cause to support and one which has affected a number of our FPS students. MOVING ON Finally, it is with great sadness that I need to inform our community that, at the end of this term, I will be moving on to another school. Amazingly, several rumours predicted this. However I can assure you that I only found out about the possibility of taking on a new position on Thursday and I accepted this new position over the weekend, after discussing it with my family. Last Tuesday Meg Marsden Kiara Warenycia Matthew Peacock and I went to the REEC in Wagga

Wagga for a day of environmental science

At the start of the day our teacher Bernie had to remember all of our names and say them

Next we were split into groups of four and given 2x4s with ropes on them and we had to step in

time with each other

After that we had to cross a fake toxic swamp using 1x2s and deposit them on the other side

Later we went to a pond and we caught bugs and identified them and tallied them on the

smartboard We also got water samples and tested them for pH salt oxygen nitrogen ammonia

and mud to water ratio

At the end of the day we went on a rope obstacle course with play equipment
