Principal’s Report
Welcome to Week 7. Another week of learning flies past as we
trialed our first whole school writing assessment task called
“Quick Write.” All students engaged in a writing activity that
enabled them to demonstrate their writing skills in a particular
area that their stage has been investigating. These writing
samples are then analysed by the teachers in Stage Groups in
terms of grammatical structure, punctuation and spelling to
inform their planning for future goals in English. We have some
fabulous writers and we are looking forward to seeing their
progress when we run the next “Quick Write” in Term 2.
Year 6 Forensics Day
Year 6 experienced an exciting day of learning through scientific investigation today with the Forensics Day
held at Finley High School. The students also had the opportunity to work co-operatively with Year 6 students
from other schools in the area who will form the Year 7 cohort in 2020.
2019 Harmony Day School Fete
Save the date for our Harmony Day Fete! Our P&C Fete is much more than a fundraiser, it is a chance for our
community to come together as a whole to have fun in a relaxed evening atmosphere with friends and family.
The students are having fun designing their stalls and will take turns to run their activities during the fete.
There will be different types of food on offer to celebrate the many cultural backgrounds we have at Finley
Public School as well as drinks and plenty of seating
so we can share a meal together.
Riverina Swimming Carnival
We wish our Riverina Swimmers all the best as they
compete in Albury on Wednesday for a chance to
reach the NSW PSSA State Carnival. Thank you to the
parents who are assisting with transport on the day.

Cricket
Last Tuesday Finley Public School hosted Tocumwal
Public in their Round 1 match of the PSSA Cricket
Knockout.
The team comprised of 11 boys and 2 girls.
Unfortunately we couldn’t come away with the win
but the match was played with great enthusiasm
and sportsmanship.
A special thanks to Mr Owen for umpiring, Vaughan
Raffery for his support and to Kristin King for her
role as coach and team manager.

No Flies on Us Program
Year 3 and 4 will have a special focus in My Kitchen Garden this week with the Finley Lions Club coming in to
deliver the ‘No Flies on Us’ Fruit Fly Program. The students will learn about the issues involved with growing
stone fruits in a fruit fly area and will build traps to keep our MKG peach trees fruit fly free.

From next week, our Newsletter will be published on Tuesdays to streamline logistics at the beginning of the
week in the office. It is still preferable to have any items for the newsletter to the school office by Friday.
