CLASSROOM

MY OBSERVATION REPORT

Name of the school Observed: SULANGON NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOLSchool Address: Brgy. Sulangon , DAPITAN CITYDate of Visit: February 1, 2012

It is said that classroom is the second home of both teachers and student. So, it is an integral part of the teaching process. During my observation, my teacher really manages the classroom properly by using supportive measures such us organizational plan, schedule of activities, record keeping, physical Environment, discipline and routines. When we talk about organizational plan, it includes structured and flexible classroom. So, During my observation my teacher planned ahead of time the learning activities such as lesson plan and also following accepted rules and regulations established by the school. The students also given the chance to express and pursue interests and the responsibility to gain relevant experiences. This can be done through grouping or cooperative learning approach. So, the organizational plan can be both structured and flexible. Scheduled of activities, plan thoroughly by a teacher in which time allotted properly for each activity. There are also activities planned as fillers. In such a manner that the activity finish ahead of schedule. Such us; A teacher might be asking for a brief story that is about or an extension of the lesson, and have a question box and let the student pick one and answer. One of the teacher’s responsibilities is to keep school records. In such a manner that my critic teacher checked the attendance before the class started. She has a record book for recording daily performance and each student have a portfolio to file actual records.

Page 9: field study 6 format.docx

Indeed, a clean classroom where everything is arranged neatly is both attractive and comfortable place to stay in. In fact, every student is responsible for cleanliness maintenance of the classroom. There is a proper ventilation and lighting as well as appropriate noise suit for the students. The seats are arranged in rows facing the front or the blackboard. The furniture and decoration also suited to a number of students. Discipline occupies the center stage in all learning activities. The kind of classroom that I am going to observe is most conducive to purposeful activity, that’s why good discipline prevails. An experience teacher share that “You must know how to anticipate trouble so that minor skirmishes may not erupt to fully fledged battles”. It is said that routine is a schedule of activities that is mostly time-paced and is attuned to the lesson objectives. So, based on my observation my teacher established routine is some manner such as;-Routine could be scheduled on a weekly or monthly instead of a daily basis.-She might find the class in a situation when the interest and concentration is at its peak.

CLASSROOM MAGEMENT MATRIXClassroom Management Area

Observation Description of the Supportive Measures Observed

Your Analysis Comments on the Effectiveness of the Supportive Measure

Your Analysis Recommendations

1. Organizational Plan It can be structured and flexible.

When we talk about structured it can also effective in such manner that the activity is plan ahead of time. While that of flexible, the students are given a chance to express and pursue special interest and responsibility to gain relevant experience.

Flexible classroom is more effective in such a manner that the student given a chance to show his/her interest to gain relevant experiences. That’s why I would like to recommend cooperative approach, so that learning mathematics is easier.

2. Schedule These are planned activities for their daily lessons and for additional activities.

Assigning students the corresponding tasks and responsibilities could save much time.

As a teacher you need also to schedule precious time for yourself in such a manner that you know exactly when it

Page 10: field study 6 format.docx

is time for you to relax

3. Record Keeping These are school activities to be recorded such us;-Daily Attendance-Students’ Progress

Well, it is good to check the attendance of every student in every day activity as well as their daily performance to manage their progress.

As an effective teacher it is good also those Records of students’ progress are sent to parents through every grading period.

4. Physical Environment

Indeed, it is said that a clean classroom where everything is arranged neatly is both attractive and a comfortable place to stay in. Such as cleanliness maintenance, proper ventilation and lighting, seating arrangement and decorations

Such a classroom that is I going to appreciate is that the seating arrangement and decoration as well as proper ventilation and lighting are conducive to learning.

Bulletin Board displays is a big part of a classroom. So, it is good that the choice of the color, size and the materials to be placed must be attractive appropriate to the age group. And the contents and message must be connected with the lesson for a week or two.

5. Discipline Seasoned teachers have learned how to prevent disciplined problems, and that is my critic teacher. She has a personal attributes such as; 1.)Patience, 2.)Compassion, 3.)Concern and caring attitude, 4.)Respect and trust for others.

Well, the teachers’ personalities are their surest “arms” that can either win or fail amidst a controllable learning situation.

Allow students the freedom to express or explain agitated feelings and misgiving rather than censure them right away.

6. Routines It is a schedule of activities that is mostly time-paced and attuned to the lesson objectives

Routine is serves as a guide in controlling

behavior, so it is important.

It is important that the student know that you are following the planned routine.

MY ANALYSIS

Page 11: field study 6 format.docx

1. What area of classroom management was the teacher most effective? Which of the supportive measures were effective? Why? I think discipline is the most effective supportive measures. Because it affect the behavior of a student and transforming him into a good citizen in the near future. 2. What area of classroom management was the teacher least effective? Which supportive measures were not effective? Why? Everything is done properly by my critic teacher. I believe that she is an effective teacher. But among of the 6 supportive measures, I think Routine is not clearly emphasizes. Although it was used but it is scheduled on a weekly or monthly that the students are so eagerly pursuing. 3. Suggest more effective ways for your answer in number 2. In establishing a routine it should be plan in an entire class rather than for an individual Group. Plan a procedure for the whole unit with a corresponding time allotment for each topic. And find a class in a situation when the interest and concentration is at its peak.

My Reflections

1. Describe at least 3-5 characteristics of a teacher who can established a well-managed classroom? -Creative -Knowledgeable -Resourceful -Patience and Compassion -Concern and Caring attitude

2. What characteristics do you have at present that can make you an effective classroom manager? Elaborate how these characteristic can help you? Well, patience and compassion are one of those characteristics that help me to become an effective teacher someday. I believe that a calm and composed reaction in the midst of an untoward behavior can insure an acceptable solution for all. And also a compassionate teacher understands and feels sympathetic towards students’ struggles and sufferings.

3. What characteristics do you have at present that can hamper you from becoming an effective classroom manager? How can you overcome these characteristics? Sometimes, I feel shy to communicate to those person that I don’t know most. Maybe I can overcome this characteristic by developing my confident in speaking communication, because this is important as a teacher and as a professional.

COMMUNITY

COMMUNITY TOUR OBSERVATION REPORT

Page 14: field study 6 format.docx

Name of the School Observed: SULANGON NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOLSchool Address: Brgy. Sulangon, DAPITAN CITYDate of Visit: February 8, 2012

LOCALITY OF THE SCHOOL Sulangon national high school is located at brgy. Sulangon, Dapitan City. Composed of upper and lower campuses. It is surrounded by a lot of trees and houses.

Issues/Concerns/Problems of the Community Sulangon National High School is a nice place to study. It is because the school is free from traffic and pollution. The school has a rules and regulation in which a student is oblige to follow. The school known for their outstanding implementation of peace and order situation as well as academic progress. But, there is a little problem in a basic need like water. Especially in upper campus in which water is important in using comport room and many others.

Community Resources The school with the teachers and the students has been using some of the resources of the barangay for a number of reasons and purposes. Like the sound system for the school’s programs, seminars and other activities that require a sound system in which can function outdoor and even indoor in the presence of numerous spectators. The basketball court has also been used during their outdoor activities like field demonstration, intramural meets and the like or even just during the students’ free times and weekends for recreation.

Community Assistance/Service given by the School Sulangon National High School has always been a sufficient partner of the government official of a barangay in all community affairs from the easiest one to the most complex one, the institution is unceasingly supporting the barangay towards the fulfillment of goals and the fortification of the youthful members of the community. They have been so well-rounded and dynamic in extending their best to optimize learning. There will be a healthy school –barangay relationship and in this way it can also provide a healthy relationship with the community. Because they are the community’s model agencies and instigate programs that would cater the needs, potentials and personalities of a student.

My Analysis

Page 15: field study 6 format.docx

1. Suggest new ways by which the school can creatively use the resources of the community. Sulangon National High School is located at brgy. Sulangon, Dapitan City. So the resources are limited. But if the number of activities no longer suit to the availability of resources found at the barngay, that’s the reason the city will cooperate to the situation. In case the resources found around the city will utilize, the best way by which the school can creatively use the resources are as follows; *Schools have organized Parent-teacher and community Association with the officer’s coming from both their members. A strong spirit of cooperation is exhibited as well as sharing of expertise and material resources. *Beautification of the community through tree planting in every household and cleanliness through proper waste disposal are voluntarily undertaken by both.

2. How can the school address the issues/concerns and problems of the community? There is an organize association between Parents-Teacher and the community. Regular meetings are conducted to discuss activities that are intended to improve/assist conditions prevailing both. The officials actively participate in community projects such as literacy assistance projects for out-of-school children and house campaign for healthful practice. A strong feeling of togetherness becomes evident.

3. What possible linkages can the community and the schools have? Collaborative relationships between the school and the community link together to become evident, through organized association the community can cooperate to the school as well as the school to the community or vice versa.

My Reflections

1. How did you feel while you were going around the community? What things did you learn that you might have taken for granted before? As I go around in a community or in the institution of Sulangon National High School, I learn a lot of things such as how to treat people around you. They are much particular in making a greetings or respect. During my time when I was a high school student, I take for granted that kind of attitude. I only choose those people I do respect or give greetings. This is not good as a person. So, I give thanks to Sulangon National High School for transforming my life into a correct path to success, someday.

2. As a future teacher, what do you think will be your role in the community? It is said that becoming a teacher is not an easy task, it is a many sided task. So being a teacher, it is also consider as a community model in which instigate programs that would cater the needs, potentials and personalities of a students.

3. How will you encourage more community participation among teachers and students? Usually, it start from a good community leadership and authorities that are equally willing to provide assistance by way of materials resources and learning center for the school populations. And in return the teachers and students actively communicate and committed to spend time, effort and expertise in serving the academic needs and interest of the community members. The school should have organized association to engage a collaborative relationship among the community leaders and government officials. Indeed, a favorable partnership between the school and the community will yield into a bountiful harvest.
