Safety Update
From the desk of Ms “C”
On October 17 , Mary Schoenknecht, Pastorth
Jim, & I met with Trinity Lutheran’s FoodPantry Board: Sharry Hebert, Chr, Tom Fiedler(retired EC administrator), Dr. Karen Myhre,Bruce Weigmann, & Richard Linn. PeggyCasper was absent.
Following our discussion, in which both theFood Pantry Board & the TLC staff shared theirconcerns, the Food Pantry Board decided tokeep Door #4 locked until 1:30 pm beginningOctober 28 . Food Pantry clients have receivedth
written information about this, along with adirective to only enter Door #4. A sign will alsobe posted by the new inside glass doors near thepantry, requesting an escort for any bathroomuse. Volunteers will be in the hallway to assist.
Mary & I asked them to review the presentpantry hours, possibly moving them to afterschool times. The Food Pantry Board is alsoworking with a UWEC senior project group, collecting data on food pantry use in the area, with the possibility in the future of combiningefforts with other sites at another location.
The Food Pantry Board feels very stronglyabout the needs of the hungry, and the dignity oftheir clients as an important mission of TrinityLutheran Church. It was a fruitful meeting, andthis direct communication was important for allof us!
Another safety feature we’ve installed at Noah’sArk is a “door bell” type sound that rings each
time the classroom doors are opened. It alertsus to any movement in or out of our doors. I’vestarted “singing” the sound!
Look for the “Safety Corner” to keep youinformed with information as it relates toNoah’s Ark. I ask for your continued prayersdaily as you send your children off to preschool. Trinity values your beautiful children, andworks daily to make TLC a safe place for themto go to school.

Creating a Family MissionStatement
In today’s hectic, complicated world, manyfamilies find themselves without a “road map”for helping their children avoid being “lost” inall that is going on.
Might it be wise to sit down as a family andcreate a type of family mission statement...aset of core values that serves as a road map forbehavior?
One parent described her approach: “We talkedas a family about what types of values we feel
proud to live by. Then we posted them on ourrefrigerator. Our family believes in:
-Treating others the way we want to betreated
-Honesty-Politeness
-Doing our best even when something ishard or boring
-Being healthy and safeOur three year old needs a lot of help with these, but the older kids caught on quickly. We madesure to admit that we, as parents, would be heldaccountable for living by these values, too!”This is a great tool for teaching self-disciplineand problem-solving. Now we just say to ourkids, “Feel free to do what you would like as long as it fits our family’s values.”
Check out their website...it has amazinginsights!! Each monthly newsletter containsanother one of their special articles. I so enjoyreading them!!
At Noah’s Ark, our mission statement inthe classroom, can be summed up by simplystating...
-“We are peacemakers in God’sworld!”
At Trinity, we developed our own missionstatement several years ago:-“Serving in Christ’s love, and Sharingthe Good News”!
I feel proud of both of these statements...andtrust God is present as we strive to do ourbest to be God’s hands and feet on earth.

In the ArtCenter October’s art hasbeen so much fun. Read on:
-CD...peace people:
we loved creating the “peace symbols” in our
hallway near our “We Are Peacemakers”
banner...and it was “recycling” besides
-Play Doh...play doh is out often. It strengthens
children’s hand muscles, provides a fun texture
experience, and allows for 3D creativity!!
-Painting at the easels....painting apple & pumpkin
shapes for the fun of it
-Paddle Painting...”grabbing” large grip paddles for
painting, allows for hand muscle development, paint
color choices, creativity, and large muscle movement
as the children smeared the paint on the page
-Apple prints...an opportunity for children to discuss
the 3 parts of an apple (in connection with the 3
persons of God), and then print with apple shapes, as
they discover how to fit the shapes on the paper
-Apple Pie baking....chopping with kid cutting tools
and “rolling” out pie crust to create a yummy treat
-Cranky Crocodile “cutting practice”...a fun
“scissor puppet” drama that teaches cutting in a
special way (“Mr. Thumb goes upstairs...his 2 friends
go downstairs. AND he sings “OPEN AND
SHUT...OPEN AND SHUT!”)
-White Chalk on Black Paper...using a special
media to observe opposites
-Fist “pumpkins”....this was a combination of a
finger play, drama, counting, and group activity
which was fun for all
-Pasta necklaces...a connection to our spaghetti
supper that offered a beading/lacing activity, in
which some children developed patterns & others just
enjoyed loading up their laces
-Painting Joseph’s coat of many colors...an
opportunity to tie art to the Bible story
-Leaf sponge prints...a touchy/feelie experience that
incorporates fall colors & shapes
-3D packing peanut skeletons/sculptures...a chance
to do 3D that stands up off the paper & creates space
and size
These are more of the “no fail” experiences that we
offer children to build their confidence & self-
esteem.
