    In Engl ish c lasses Neva usua l ly uses a Christmas "ABC" s e t to te ac h th e names andsounds of the l e t t e r s as she teaches the s tory by connect ing each i l l us t r a t ed l e t t e rto th e Chr is tmas s tory . This year she made 300 cookies which she s er ve d w it h cocoa a tthe closing minutes of each class . . Ernes t joined them a t th i s time so he could becomeacquainted w ith the f i f t y ch i ld ren in these c l a s se s .

    As usual , Neva baked cakes for the church Chris tmas meet ings which were a l l heldon Christmas Day t h i s year . Eleven s ingle- layered decorated cakes ranging in s ize from5 to 10 inches were prepared fo r the chi ldren, an d a three t ie red c ak e to pp ed with asugar-cube church was served to the adu l t s . The 25th was a busy dayone o f the membershelped from 830 A.M. till 1000 P .M , -- 13 i hou rs . Fif ty-f ive chi ldren an d s ix adul tswere in the chi ldren 's meeting and there were a t o t a l of l6 d if fe re nt adul t s in the se rv ic es in cl ud in g f ive Japanese men.We spen t the nex t day pu t t i ng th ings away, t ak ing candle wax o f f the f l oo r , and ingenera l get t ing back to normal. We celebrated our persona l Christmas on the 27th .The remaining days in December were used to balance the books, do year-end cleaning,and prepare handwork for a new quar ter of Sunday School. With the coming of the newyear snow arr ived in quant i ty bu t for tunately the weather was f a i r fo r the three days o fVacation Bible School which was held from the 10th to the 12th of January with 18 chi ldren enro l l ed . Lessons on the boyhood o f Jesu s, t he t emp ta ti on of Jesus , and Zaccheuswere familiar s tor ies but some very well prepared workbooks helped to make it a veryappropriate study on th e word of God in which the children enthusias t ica l ly par t ic ipated.We prepared handwork fo r each day and each chi ld made a box fo r penci ls from pop s ick les t i cks . These were decorated with a red cross, memory verses , and pictures clipped fromold gree t ing cards. On the f i n a l day Neva prepared r ice curry and fed f ive of the ch i ldren whose Chr i s t i an parents a re working. They stayed three hours enjoying games and

    their mo t h e r s r e t u r n e d .On the l6 th , a nat ional hol iday, we held a spec ia l meeting fo r indoc t r ina t ion .Neva taught the member's children about s in and the plan o f s al va ti on while Ernest taughtlessons to the adul ts concerning church government. Two of the recent ly purchased VHSvideo f i lms were shown to the ent i re group. We enjoyed a carry- in meal a t noon and a ter i c e cakes cooked i n sweetened red beans fo r th e evening meal . The school t e a ch e r whodecided to study about Christ a t the September meeting was present and her th i r s t forknowledge was ref reshing. She at tends B ib le s tu dy on Wednesday evenings. The daughterof members who expressed i n t e r e s t in Baptism i s an enthus ias t ic pupi l bu t her parentsprefer red to delay bapt ism. Since she was d i r ec t ly approached about it by the evange

    list they f e l t the deci s ion may not have been en t i r e l y he r s . Pray fo r the s i x th grader s(There were f ive in Sunday School Sunday.) They will be graduating in March and areusually pressured to spend Sundays studying af te r they enter Junior High School. The re werean average o f 50 people fo rth e camp with 1 3 a t t end ingfrom th e Higashi ku Churcho f Ch r i s t .

    We t ook a coup l e o fdays o f f and took a sho r tt r i p nor th to th e c i t y ofRumoi where we p i t ched ou rt en t by the Japan Sea. We CAMP S ITE

    enjoyed th e t ime walking thebeach, watching th e waves,cooking outs ide, and playingscrabble. We returned o nSaturday to ge t r eady fo rSunday se rv i ces .
