March (21); the month spring arrives?? On February 7th I went skiing with my

grandsons (about 5 inches of new snow) and there, parked in the lot, was a Miata.

Now I know some of us drive year-round, but where do you put skis in a Miata?

Perhaps they were just getting ready for the Freeze Your Butt Off Tour.

Thanks to Dan & Teri for hosting the AWD 0n 2/6 at the Italian Village Restaurant.

There was a wonderful turn out and we were able to meet new member Mark

Thomas, who also attended. Dan brought our new merchandise to show everyone;

jackets, T's, hats, all look great!

Another thanks to Becca & Bob for the AWB on 2/11 at Fieldcrest Estate in Canton.

This was the Hoover home built in the 1920 's. A picturesque setting and good eats

made for a warm time on a cold, foggy, winter day.

A couple of topics we discussed at our February meeting were the Christmas Party

and keeping the cost at a reasonable amount; it is running about $5,500 presently.

Also, we discussed the proposed Bylaw change which will be voted on at next

month's meeting. If you are not able to make that meeting (3/15 Pizza night) you

can send your vote to Jim Lambert before the March meeting. The phrasing of the

change to Article VII Section 3, will be: Annual dues will be collected to cover

expenses of the organization. Amount to be determined by the voting officers of

Northcoast Miata Club.

A reminder, if you have walkie talkies with battery packs or lithium rechargeable

batteries, you might want to put them on the charger. It usual that when this type

of battery goes completely dead, it won't return to a full charge again.

I hope the groundhog was wrong!

Fabulous 50’s II Tour

Hosted by Jared & Tiffany Fonner & Scott & Mary Miller

Remember the fabulous 50’s when you picked up your girl, cruised down to the local “drive-in”

restaurant, complete with “car hops” and curb service. You enjoyed cheeseburgers and fries and

maybe shared a malt with two straws. After checking out the other “rides” on the lot, you cruised

up and down the main street, took a drive and ended up at, of course, the local “drive-in” movie

theater. There, you’d catch a double feature, and if love was in the air, maybe you got lucky in the

back seat! This tour gives you the opportunity to re-live those “glory days” and enjoy all your

fondest memories, minus the backseat!

Join us Saturday, June 16th, for the “Fabulous 50’s II Drive-in Tour”. We will meet at a drive-in

restaurant for dinner. After enjoying the curb-side menu, we’ll cruise to a drive-in theater and

enjoy a double feature, under the night sky with the tops down. Details are still being worked out,

as to which drive-in establishments we will be patronizing, and we will notify everyone who has

signed up later, as things become finalized.

We’re planning to be able to “tail-gate” for a while, prior to the start of the movie, but again

details will be forth coming soon. To make the evening more authentic, all participants will be

required to dress in 1950’s period clothing. Girls, dig out those poodle skirts or pedal pushers and

your favorite tight sweater. Guys, jeans, white t-shirt, leather jacket, letter sweater or your “Richie

Cunningham” nerd look, whichever was your style. Costumes will be judged, and prizes awarded

for the best dressed couples. Games and or 1950’s trivia tests are in the works as well. Fender

skirts, fuzzy dice and side pipes, etc., are optional, should you want to customize your ride.

This tour will be limited to the first 24 “hot rods” to sign-up. E-mail us at [email protected] by

May 26th to sign up. We look forward to hearing from you “cats & dolls” and hope you’ll join us

for this cruise down memory lane.

April 28,2018 Hosted by John and Donna Garsteck

This coming April 28th we will hold the 24th annual FYBO tour and it is, typically, the first driving tour of the season. True to the name of the tour, tops must be down (unless it is raining). In case it is cold you will need hats, gloves, scarves etc. to keep warm. If it snows, the tour will be cancelled or rescheduled. It has snowed only once during the history of the tours.

Time and meeting place to be announced Come join in the fun

Please RSVP; John & Donna at 1-440-238-9363 or [email protected]

Hosted by Charlie & Marlene Rodgers

Join us for a lively discussion about the book, A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. The meeting will be held

at Charlie and Marlene Rodgers home at 11812 Edgerton Rd, North Royalton on Friday, May 25th at 6:30 p.m. Jim

and Joyce Simmelink are assisting in this Book Club function. Refreshments will be shared to set the mood of the

story…the tumultuous decades in Russian history after World War I. Reserve a spot in this informal book

discussion by email [email protected] or call 440-539-0998. Copies of the book, CD book or e-book may

be obtained through the Cuyahoga County Public Library. Here is a glimpse of Towles’ portraiture of a society on

the cusp of radical change.

“A Gentleman in Moscow immerses us in an elegantly drawn era with the story of Count Alexander Rostov. When,

in 1922, he is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, the count is sentenced to house arrest in

the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit,

has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades

in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel's doors.”

Fieldcrest Estate Sunday Brunch 2/11/18 Becca Gustaval and Bob Maurer

Sunday Brunch at Fieldcrest Estate, North Canton, was attended by 22 members who enjoyed

a wide variety of delicious foods; omelets, waffles, Asian, pasta stations, meat carving table,

barbeque ribs, baked fish, baked chicken, fresh cooked vegetable choices, scallop potatoes,

mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, rice pilaf, shrimp cocktail, salad bar and desert table. No

one left hungry and we enjoyed each other’s company at two large round tables set aside for

the club in the beautiful 1920s Hunting Lodge on the Fieldcrest Estate, with a wait staff and

servers who were friendly and efficient.

Following brunch, we strolled through and shopped at the Estate’s unique gift shop, The Coop,

which was originally built as a two-story chicken coop.

The Fieldcrest Estate was once the home and farm of one of the founders of the Hoover

Company that had been based in North Canton since its inception in the early 1900s when it

was known as the Hoover Suction Sweeper Company. (Did you know that the British still refer

to vacuuming the house as ‘Hoovering’?) (continued)
