NFL 4H KEYS 20-9-1 69% L2Y! • BOWL 4H’S 2-0 AT PRESSTIME! The Power Sweep 4H NFL Keys are now 20-9 69% the last 2 years. Last week in Power Sweep we did not have a 4H Selection for the NFL. As of presstime 15 bowls have been played and the Double Bowl Issue of Power Sweep has WON BOTH of the 4H KEY SELECTIONS that we forecast during the first 15 bowls played. The bowl season is not even half way through so there will be plenty to update in the next issue, and we hope that you continue to enjoy the jam-packed 32 page bowl issue that is still current for the 2013-’14 bowl season. There are not updates to the bowl issue and this issue contains only the NFL forecast for the Wild Card Issue.

Newsletter Contest Final Results Here is the Newsletter contest for the 2013 football season. The newsletters are graded from the lines in Tuesday’s USA Today. If there is no line we will use the first available line in the USA Today. We use the Tuesday line because Newsletters are written on Sunday night and that would be the first day that most subscribers would have access to them as all of the Newsletters post online by then. There will be 6 categories in all. Net winners in College, NFL, and combined as well as the win percentage in College, NFL and combined. An (*) indicates that a Sunday or Monday night game is pending.

This is the 4th meeting in 2 years w/SF going 3-0 SU/ATS w/a 36-27 avg score outrushing GB on avg 200 (5.5) - 71 (4.3). Rodgers has played well in the 3 meetings avg 398 ypg (64%) w/a 7-3 ratio and Kaepernick has avg’d 338 ypg (63%) w/a 5-1 ratio playing in LY’s playoff and TY’s season opener. SF is +21 ypg (+4 TO’s) on the road which is 6th best (6-2 SU/6-1-1 ATS). GB is +55 ypg (even TO margin) at home (6th best) for a 4-3-1 SU/3-5 ATS run with the yardage being impressive as Rodgers essentially missed 4 full home games. Offensively both teams are getting right with GB getting Rodgers and WR Cobb back last week and SF working Crabtree (284 yds 14.9 in 5 gms) back into football shape since his Achilles injury. Both teams are deep in playoff exp w/GB being in the playoffs for 5 straight years and SF going to the NFC Championship the L2Y. SF started off 2013 w/an identity issue as they tried to be a pass oriented team despite their receiving woes and lost 2 of 3 to start. They went back to their run first/crushing defense style after losing to IND avg 146 ypg (4.4) since, holding foes to 85 ypg (3.8) rush. SF also forced Kaepernick to stay in the pocket more early on as opposing def’s keyed in on option style QB’s w/big hits. SF has let him use his legs more lately and WR Boldin (85 rec 13.9) has been worth his weight in gold as the #1 receiver with 36.7% of the rec yds TY. TE Davis has been reliable again as the safety outlet and while the 49ers OL isn’t quite as stout as last year’s they remain a top 10 unit. SF’s #5 def is also not quite as good as 2012 due to susp’s (LB Smith)

and injuries (just six 16 gm starters) but they still have argu-ably the best LB unit in the NFL w/Bowman and Willis with Smith now focused on the field and they are the only team to not allow a 100 yard rusher this year. Football may be a team sport but the right QB is the difference maker. With Rodgers playing a full game GB averaged+110 ypg (-2 TO’s) winning by a 31-23 avg score going 6-1 SU/5-2 ATS. The #3 offense had just two 100 yd receivers without their starting QB, but 7 with him. While Off Rookie of the Year candidate RB Lacy doesn’t have as much impact w/Rodgers on the field he has been a good pass blocker which has been good with GB giving up 45 sks TY (24th). GB’s #25 defense is an issue esp with LB Matthews (7.5 sks) potentially missing with a thumb injury. In 10 gms without him GB is allowing 257 ypg w/an 18-9 ratio and they’ve given up the 2nd most yards passing in the last 16 years. GB has our #27 special teams this year due to bad coverage units while SF is #7 TY. The return of Rodgers totally changes the playoff dy-namics in the NFC. He’s seen the 49ers defense 3 times and while still elite they won’t have many surprises for him now. GB also has a true power RB to help control the clock and wear down the defense. The early forecast is mid-teens giving the Packers an edge and we’ll side with the home team backed by a QB that should continue to improve with another week of full reps here.

NO will be hearing about their road struggles all wk. Coming in with a 3-5 SU/1-7 ATS rec they’ve been held to 17 pts or less in 4 str road games with Brees avg 275 ypg (67%) incl just a 5-4 ratio in them. They are 0-5 SU all time on the road in the playoffs & now face an Eagles team that is 4-4 SU/3-5 ATS at home. However, in Foles’ 4 full HG’s the Eagles are +110 ypg (+8 TO’s) winning by an avg of 34-17. Still it’s how a team plays to end a season as NO has the #3 and #2 units (-3 TO’s) the L4W (+146 ypg vs #5 sked) and both teams have playoff vets on both sides. In a league defined by QB superstars it’s hard to imagine that Brees gets overlooked. Only Peyton has been more con-sistent and only Brady has done more with less. Brees has tallied 5,000 yds passing 4 times in the L6Y and what makes it unique is that TE Graham is the only player with over 1,000 yds rec and only RB Thomas has over 400 yds rushing (549, 3.7). However, 4 players have over 70 rec’s making it hard to scheme against HC Payton’s spread the wealth system. NO’s 37 sks allowed (#9) are the most since 2005 as the LT spot has been an issue TY and the WR’s don’t have quite the same speed as before. DC Ryan has done an excellent job taking LY’s #32 def that allowed 440 ypg and improving it by 104 ypg finishing 4th. The fact that DE Jordan and OLB Gallette who had been a depth player prior to 2013 tallied 24.5 sks combined is very impressive. New Orleans’ #2 pass defense has been dinged by injuries lately but after allowing a 31-15 ratio LY they only gave up a 20-12 ratio this year.

Chip Kelly simply plays by a different set of rules on offense. PHI’s #2 Off controls the tempo of games at will thanks to the All Pro play of RB McCoy (32.1% of Off) and the fact that in the L8 games Foles has a 21-2 ratio. His only game of less than a 103 QBR was vs DET in blizzard conditions. WR Jackson (83 ypg 16.2) is still one of the fastest rec’s in the game and opens up the rest of the offense. PHI started the same OL all 16 games com-pared to LY when LG Mathis was the only one to play all 16. While 24th in sks allowed, 15 of the 46 sks came with Vick (10.6% rate) at the helm. PHI’s switch to a 3-4 included a whole new secondary so the #32 pass def isn’t a surprise esp w/many teams having to play catchup in blowouts but they allow 7.3 ypa and 25-19 ratio which are both respectable. Over the L8W PHI is 10th in sacks by as they adjusted to the scheme and +13 TO’s. Neither team owns dominant special teams with the Eagles 28th (#27 PR’s) and NO 20th (#30 PR’s/#26 KR def). Elite QB’s, bad defenses and rules designed to favor offenses have led to record scoring in the NFL with Ve-gas shooting up the totals. While we have 2 elite offenses here, PHI is 3-5 O/U at home NO is 1-7 O/U on the road TY and playoff road teams that scored 30 or more in reg ssn finales are 6-14 O/U. A shootout doesn’t favor either HC here and we’ll lean with the Under.

The Bengals are making their third straight playoff ap-pearance but after B2B losses at HOU in the Wildcard round they host a game for the first time since 2009 (lost to NYJ, -2’ 24-14). SD makes their first post season appearance since 2009 (#2 seed) when they also lost to the Jets as a 7pt fav (17-14). CIN traveled to SD on 12/1 and after being tied 7-7 at HT the Bengals took over with a 250-141 2H yard edge. The temp will be about 50º warmer then the famous “Freezer Bowl” of 1981 which saw wind chills of almost -50º. Mike McCoy and OC Ken Whisenhunt revamped the SD pass game to reduce the deep balls and put more focus on yds after the catch. This reduced the pressure on an OL that gave up 49 sks LY (just 30 TY #4) and Rivers finished w/a 70% comp % and +1.4 ypa also. RB Matthews played to his talent level (7th in rushing) staying healthy and TE Gates had a rebound year (77 rec 11.3) with Keenan Allen being a rare rookie WR with 1,000 yds rec. SD kept the same DC/scheme when McCoy took over but injuries and bad play have them 23rd overall. No player has more than 2 int TY and none have 6 sacks (14 have 1) as they’ve had to manufacture pressure. The knock on Dalton has been his consistency but he’s managed to overcome it enough to get CIN back into the playoffs. He owns a 20-9 ratio at home (13-11 away) and the Bengals have enough weapons around AJ Green (#5 rec yds TY) to keep teams honest. The tandem of Green-Ellis/Bernard

at RB plays to OC Gruden’s strengths with Bernard finishing 2nd on the team in rec’s TY. CIN also deploys a lot of 2 TE sets with Gresham/Eifert and 2 of Dalton’s int’s were due to them resting in the final. CIN’s OL has been dinged by inj’s all year but are better than avg. The big injuries for CIN has been on defense with Zimmer having to adapt on the run with the loss of DT Atkins. LB Burfict has had another outstanding year and has been a major bargain for the #3 defense. CIN is thin in the secondary w/injuries but the play in the front 7 led by DE’s Carlos Dunlap/Michael Johnson has been excellent allowing just 5.9 ypa with a 22-20 ratio. SD has our #22 special teams TY (#24 KR Def) while CIN is #30 largely due to the loss of Huber (40.5 net to 34.7 w/Powell) in the 2nd PIT game. There are TWO teams which finished 2013 ranked in the top 10 in both Off/Def with the Bengals joining the Saints in that group. CIN won the AFC North running the table at home (8-0 SU/ATS) with only one game decided by under a TD. The Chargers schedule was travel heavy early as they played 7 road games in their first 11 but now they must play only their 2nd game away from home since late November. This is a bad spot for SD who went deep into OT vs a KC team that rested 19 of 22 starters with a shot to win at the end of regulation. We’ll call for CIN to thrive vs SD’s #29 pass def here and get the win.

KC took a surprise loss to IND 2 wks ago where they were held to 228 yds after the 1st drive going scoreless for the last 56 min. A combo of 4 TO’s, penalties and mental errors in the secondary took the pressure off Luck (241 yds 70% 1-0) which let the run game dictate the tempo. This is the 2nd playoff gm for Luck but instead of a road game vs LY’s team of destiny IND gets to stay home vs a team they have proven they can beat. Also unlike LY the Colts will have a healthy OC on hand as then OC Arians fell ill prior to the Ravens loss. IND is -22 ypg (+6 TO’s) at home TY (6-2 SU/5-3 ATS) while KC is -39 ypg (+19 TO’s) on the road (6-2 SU/7-1 ATS). Simply put HC Reid has succeeded TY by adapting to the strengths of the players instead of forcing them to change. The #21 offense is designed to minimize mistakes (+19 TO’s #1 net TO pts) & max out the talents of RB Charles who accounts for 36.7% of TY’s offense. Alex Smith’s physical limitations in deep passing w/no true #2 WR option have hindered WR Bowe who hasn’t logged a single 100 yd game TY (2 LY). McCluster is a slot receiver who has really made an impact on the #3 special teams unit as a PR TY. KC is a respectable #13 in sks allowed and while 1st RD DC Fisher struggled at RT he’s fared better at LT with Albert out. Reid kept KC’s 3-4 scheme but Bob Sutton has done a great job coaching up DE Jackson/NT Poe who have been dynamic setting up one of the top LB units in the NFL. KC held foes to under 100 QBR in 11 of the 1st 15 games TY but aside from Manning/Rivers they haven’t faced many elite passing QB challenges.

In the 1st 7 games w/WR Wayne IND avg 345 ypg/26.7 ppg but his injury and the loss of RB’s Bradshaw/Ballard earlier shifted the entire offensive focus to Luck. Combined w/the late ssn surge IND is at 339 ypg/22.7 ppg and while the OL isn’t very good rushing (#21) it is much better than LY in pass pro (#6, 32 sks). RB Brown (537 yds 5.3) is the focal point of the ground game w/Richardson (458, 2.9) struggling to adapt. TY Hilton is the current #1 WR w/5 games of 100 yds rec. TE Fleener hasn’t been very consistent w/drops/mistakes but is the #2 receiver by default w/Heyward-Bey dropping himself out of the offense. IND’s #20 defense is very prone to the run (#26, 4.5, 11 gms of 115 ypg) but OLB Mathis’ All-Pro level year (19.5 sks) shifts the balance a bit. Overall it’s an average secondary led by CB Vontae Davis that has made the most of a weak division of QB’s and a run oriented NFC West TY. IND has our #24 special teams for 2013. Kansas City is 0-4 SU/ATS vs playoff caliber foes (not counting 2nd SD) since the bye allowing 455 ypg. Part of this is missing OLB Houston (expected back) but it’s tough to accept allowing 9.0 ypa (67%) with a 10-2 ratio not counting the second San Diego game. Indy has beaten SF, SEA, DEN, KC by an avg score of 31-19 (-10 ypg +7 TO’s) and over the last 8 weeks KC is -83 ypg (+7 TO’s) which is 31st while IND is -4 ypg (+5 TO’s) which is 17th. KC reminds us of LY’s Falcons in that they rode an easy sked to the playoffs but look for IND to end their run here.
