“The Mission of St. Patrick Parish is to encourage, form and inspire intentional disciples of Jesus Christ.”

Dear Friends in Christ Humility:StandingintheTruthJesus directs some scathing criticism toward the religious leaders in today’s gospel. I think his essential critique is that they are super icial and phony. On the outside they look great, but on the inside something is lacking. Jesus says they do not practice what they preach, so don’t follow their example. They say all the right words and wear all the correct religious inery, but they don’t put into practice the words they articulate. What really infuriated Jesus was the reality that these religious leaders were preventing ordinary people from growing in their relationship with God because of all the legalistic hurdles they were putting in the way. Jesus’ words are a good reminder that the way we live out our faith can either draw people closer to God, or it can repel. In contrast to the arrogance and self-righteousness of scribes and Pharisees, Jesus exhorts the crowd and his disciples to walk on the path of humility. They need to remember that there is only one God, and it isn’t them! “Do not be called ‘Master,’ you have but one master, the Christ.” Arrogance and self-righteousness point to being out of touch with the truth of who you really are. The truth is that we have been blessed with many gifts and talents and they ultimately come from God. The truth is that we all have some weak-nesses and sins that we struggle with. We are not God. The scribes and Pharisees are not in touch with their humanity and seem to have put themselves in God’s place. They are “full of themselves,” and spiritually that is not a good place to be. Humility is not weakness. For a Christian it means acknowledging that God is at the center and every good gift comes from Him. It’s like the marathon runner who crosses the inish line and points his inger toward heaven in a gesture of gratitude, thanking God for the opportunity to run and inish the race. Gratitude and humility are two sides of the same coin. An attitude of arrogance will repel people from the cause of Christ, but a humble soul who exudes gratitude will draw many to the Lord. St. Teresa of Avila once said that humility is, “standing in the truth of who you really are.” May all of us be blessed with that spirit of humility that Jesus lifts up for us today! In Christ, Msgr. Steve

All Women in the Parish are Invited to…Women at the Well Friday, November 10th from 9:15 to 11:00 a.m.

Mary Strauss will Present

Mary is a woman of spirit and soul! She is real and riveting! Her joy is contagious! Mary takes us on her journey back from her great loss. We hear about life lessons learned, and how we can be companions to others as they travel the road of grief and loss.

Mary Strauss was born and raised in Joliet, IL, the daughter of two Catholic high school teachers. She attended Northern Illinois University, where she met her husband, John. Mary and John were married in 1997 and were blessed with three children, Allison, Anna, and John.

On January 6, 2015, John died suddenly in their home from a heart attack. Mary credits God's grace and a strong support system in helping her navigate life since the loss of her husband. Mary and the kids are parishioners at St. John Neumann and focus on putting one foot forward, one day at a time.

Gatherings are for all women of the parish to develop friendships while enhancing our mind, body and soul to glorify God. Please join us for our speaker series as we explore faith-based topics in a casual, relaxed atmosphere.

We meet in Dempsey Hall at the Crane Road Campus on Friday mornings for early registration & coffee at 8:30 a.m., Breakfast at 9:15 a.m., Speaker at 9:45 a.m., and program concludes at 11:00 a.m.

Do you know that a 22,000 square foot Planned Parenthood location, one of the largest abortion "clinics"

in the United States, is just 16 miles away from the Downtown Church? If you still believe that Planned Parenthood provides essential "services" to women, please take a moment to see what the United States

Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has to say at http://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/human-life-

and-dignity/abortion/planned-parenthood.cfm. Pro-life is making great progress as evidenced by the

reduction in the numbers of abortions in recent years, but the issue is not fully resolved. We still need to stand up

for life and let people know that there are still people who will fight for the voiceless.

We will be praying outside the Aurora Planned Parenthood location on

Thursday, November 9 from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M. & Saturday December 2 from 8 A.M. to 10 A.M.

Located at Planned Parenthood at 3051 E. New York Street in Aurora.

We Have Assistance for the Hearing Impaired In the Downtown Church

In addition to the body-pack style assisted listening receivers and headphones that are common in public spaces, we have

integrated an assisted listening hearing loop embedded inside the sanctuary for those with newer hearing aids.

Parishioners or guests who wear hearing aids which are “T-coil Enabled” will seamlessly have the audio transmitted

directly to their hearing aid as soon as they enter the pews on the main floor. If your hearing aid has a T-Coil Switch, be sure it

is turned ON. There are signs at the back of the Narthex and ushers are happy to help those who need assistance.
