It is a way of expanding our view of Mini Baby Bel’s mesh netting, which will be transformed for the occasion into imaginary reefs.

Tintin is the guest of honour Spring 2017 Saline Royale salt works, Arc-et- Senans www.salineroyale.com This exhibition imagines how the conversation between Hergé and Claude-Nicolas Ledoux might have gone, as they were both passionate architecture buffs, humanists and open-minded about the world, both dreaming of a world made better by artistic creativity.

FRAC gate-crashes the Pays de la Cerise Eco-Museum From 6th April to 15th November Fougerolles www.luxeuil.fr/ecomusee-du-pays-de-la-cerise.htm A number of artists, such as David Mach and Markus Raetz, will be showcased among the permanent collections. The work « There wasn’t much room in the pool for individual expression » by David Mach will be on display in one of the rooms of the Eco-Museum.

Festival de Caves From 1st May to 20th June Besançon www.festivaldecaves.fr Born in Besançon, the Festival de Caves now covers the wider region: Lons-le-Saunier, Baume-les-Dames, Salins-les-Bains, Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, Dijon, Arbois .... It promises the chance to share in a unique experience, where the watchwords are intimacy and conviviality!

Musicancy May - October Au Château d’Ancy-le-Franc www.musicancy.org This festival instigated in 2003 involves a unique concept in a classy setting: the château of Ancy-le-Franc. On the programme: a visit to the château followed by a one-off concert. Creative flair and improvisation also fit into the programme whenever possible.

Le Trail des Forts – 13th edition 13th and 14th May Besançon www.traildesforts.com Harmoniously blending nature and heritage, the Trail des Forts offers three trails that stand out thanks to their technical nature and the opportunity they offer to escape into history among the fortifications listed as World Heritage by UNESCO, providing a real treat for the eyes and for all the senses. The main trail lets participants visit all 8 forts from the 18th and 19th centuries that defended Vauban’s town.

Le Brunch des Halles From 14th May to 24th September 2017 Les Halles de Dijon www.dijon.fr Every Sunday from 11h00 to 15h00, a delicious brunch prepared by a chef restaurateur from the area provides a bite to eat and something to drink at the market’s refreshment bar.

Macon Wine Note From 19th to 21st May Macon www.vins-macon.com A large pop-up wine bar on the banks of the Saône, concerts, a space devoted to exploring Mâcon wines and products of the sea and the terroir.

Trailwalker Oxfam France 20 – 21 may Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan www.oxfamtrailwalker.fr This is the biggest charity sporting challenge for teams worldwide. Teams of four walk 100 km through the landscape of the Morvan Regional nature reserve within 30 hours to raise money to support people living in poverty around the world. Prior to departure, each team promises to collect at least €1,500 worth of gifts for Oxfam France, which has its own goal, that of striving for a fairer world! Within (practically) everyone’s reach!

Word Festival (Festival du Mot) 24 – 28 may La Charité-sur-Loire www.festivaldumot.fr The Word Festival seeks to “reveal the magic and power of words, oral and written language, accents and so on” making the La Charité-sur-Loire a hub for the French language.

Grand Morvan and Burgundy Goumet Days 27 – 28 may Saulieu www.saulieu.fr A gastronomy fair where producers from Morvan and Burgundy let visitors sample their local produce. On-site refreshments are also available. Demonstrations and cooking competitions involving students from local cooking schools, adult amateurs and children.

Coupes Moto Légende 27 – 28 May Circuit Dijon-Prenois www.coupes-moto-legende.fr The Coupes Moto Légende is now the biggest gathering of motorcyclists in Europe, with an ever more fabulous show! It also attracts many tourists with 80 participants travelling 130 kilometres to enjoy the Côte d’Or landscapes, starting in Prenois, all in a friendly atmosphere.

Great Burgundy Wine Festival (Festival des Grands Crus de Bourgogne) June - October Route des Grands Crus www.musicalgrandscrus-bourgogne.fr This festival artfully combines music and wine, making for a merry time all round. Some fifty concerts and thirty events are held, all geared around the theme of wine.

Peugeot on the silver screen! From June to February 2018 The Aventure Peugeot Museum, Sochaux www.museepeugeot.com This exhibition of Peugeot vehicles highlights the supporting actors as well as the « stars » of films and of TV series. This is the perfect opportunity to discover the exceptional « Limovian » from the film « Mood Indigo » at the museum for the very first time and to see the cars from the « TAXI » series of films once more.

Mediéval Festival of the King in Boots (Fêtes médiévales du Roi Chaussé) June Semur-en-Auxois www.tourisme-semur.fr Every year, Semur-en-Auxois turns time back to the Middle Ages with all sorts of activities:

practical jokes, music and dancing, chivalry, games, arts and crafts market, taverns, camps, village of beggars etc. the medieval city of Semur also holds races with participants in full medieval getup. On 31 May: the Bague race (on horseback).

Haut-Jura Festival of Music Throughout June Saint Claude and surrounding area www.festivalmusiquehautjura.com 9 prestigious concerts between France and Switzerland, in the most beautiful venues for ancient music ; Roman church, Baroque church, chapel, stalls of Saint-Claude Cathedral, theatre of the Maison du Peuple…

Le Bien Urbain Throughout June Besançon www.bien-urbain.fr Now created in conjunction with an artist, Le Bien Urbain hosts around fifteen international artists in Besançon every year (mural paintings, art installations, multimedia creations…) for a moment of creativity that lasts about one month. For nearly 7 years, each participant comes to surprise us in their own way by working in (and with) a public space, taking over the walls, the streets and the parks all around us.

The Grand Prix de l’Age d’Or Early June Dijon-Prenois Circuit www.peterauto.peter.fr Visitors are guaranteed a spectacle on the track with nine grids of exceptional historic racing cars in competition.

FIMU – 31st edition From 2nd to 5th June. Belfort www.fimu.com The International Festival of University Music brings together the aspirations of nearly 2,500 musicians and choristers over three days so that they can present and show off their skills. The city of Belfort provides the privileged setting for this gathering.

Cirques et Fanfares Festival 3rd and 4th June Dole www.cirqueetfanfaresadole.com Around 50,000 festival goers are expected for 2017, which promises to a memorable edition of what is becoming a must on the Burgundy-Franche-Comté cultural scene. Dole town centre will transform for two days to celebrate Pentecost. On the various stages, a succession of bands will show off their art and teach the public about a wide variety of musical styles.

River Festival (Pardon des Mariniers) 3 – 4 June Saint-Jean-de-Losne www.saone-tourisme.fr River-related professions have not all completely disappeared. In June, on the banks of the Saône,

the river festival known as the “Pardon des mariniers”, literally “Sailors’ pardon”, perpetuates time-honoured traditions shared by those working on the water. Boaters and locals all meet up at a major festival, where you can admire superbly decorated boat hulls, which receive a blessing from the local priest.

Les Montgolfiades 3 – 5 June Chalon-sur-Saône www.montgolfiades71.com This huge festival celebrates hot-air balloons and of course wine, attracting around fifty balloons from all over European during Pentecost weekend, making for a helluva hulla-balloon! All sorts of events are held at the Prairie Saint-Nicolas: wine tasting sessions, exhibitions, demonstrations, shows, and balloon rides.

Climats Month –80 years of the Grands Crus Route From 9th June to 9th July Grands Crus Route www.climats-bourgogne.com More than 60 events that explore the Climats, marking the 2nd anniversary of the classification of the Climats of the Burgundy wine region on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Lumière de Sens From 10th June to 16th September Sens www.tourisme-sens.com A spectacular event! The façade of the cathedral of Saint-Étienne de Sens, the very first Gothic cathedral, is brought to life thanks to this original, poetic and spectacular show, using the latest technology, staging, multimedia and the projection of HD and 3D images. At the same time, the façade of the church of Villeneuve-sur-Yonne will also explode with colour.

The Gardens Festival From 10th June to 21st October Saline Royale salt works, Arc-et-Senans www.salineroyale.com This year the gardens will draw inspiration from the world of Hergé, the creator of the famous reporter Tintin. A great creative force of the XX Century, a genius who brought enchantment to children, gave dreams to young people and provided food for thought for grown-ups, Hergé produced a work that has stood the test of time. This event tries to make a connection between an exceptional décor and an œuvre that is equally remarkable.

The Temptation of Eve From 23rd June to 15th October Musée Rolin, Autun www.autun.com The 3rd rendezvous of the Louvre in Autun will be devoted to the sculpture of Eve by the master Gislebertus, a true star of the Roman world. Evoking certain very concrete aspects, such as the arrival of pilgrims to Autun, as well as the symbolism of the work, this exhibition brings together a great number of sculptures, objet d’art, illuminated manuscripts, paintings, drawings and diverse documents belonging to museums and libraries from France and abroad, as well as from private collectors.

“Bill please waiter” Festival (Garçon la Note) July - August Dijon, Cosne Cours sur Loire, Nevers, Autun, Chalon-sur-Saône, Auxerre, Sens www.garcon-la-note.com First held in Auxerre over 10 years ago, this festival now covers all of Burgundy. The principle is simple and entertaining with a free concert held every night at a pavement café: Rock, blues, pop: there’s something for everyone!

Mardis des Rives Concerts Every Tuesday in July and August Grand Besançon www.grandbesancon.fr Once again this year, Grand Besançon sets up its open-air stage to host a series of summer concerts. With a rich and varied programme, visitors can enjoy a concert beside the River Doubs every Tuesday.

Festival of Living History Four weekends in July and August Citadelle de Belfort www.ville-belfort.fr These historical reconstitutions are part of the unmissable events across the Belfort area. In summer, the Citadelle de Belfort comes to life and takes visitors back to explore the major and the more mundane events of history. This year, art and industry will take centre stage: from the time of the workshop to the age of mass industrialisation. Entertainment is also planned for all the family at the heart of the citadel with an area featuring educational games that is totally dedicated to children.

The last weekend of the festival is followed by an electro soirée at the heart of the citadel.

Dramatized nocturnal walks July – August Citadelle de Besançon www.citadelle.com Every summer, a company is invited to create and present a dramatized procession that is designed to reveal the history and architecture of the citadel at night from an original angle. For 1 hour spectators are led into the heart of the fortified square on a procession that is punctuated by sketches. Dusk provides an exceptional backdrop and a stroll around the parapet walk lets visitors admire the superb panoramic views across Besançon and its surrounding area. By night, the citadel seems truly bewitching.

Les zaccros d’ma rue - 18ème edition 3 – 9 July Nevers www.zaccros.org Each summer, circuses, shows and concerts take the streets of Nevers by storm, each one is crazier than the next! Les Zaccros d’ma rue is a festival that has been held for the past several years, springing surprises on spectators in an atmosphere of friendly fun. Nothing makes sense and everything takes you aback!

Over 200 performances take place every year to amaze the public. Admission to most of the shows is free.

Les Eurockéennes Festival 7th to 9th July Malsaucy Peninsula, Belfort www.eurockeennes.fr The now unmissable Eurockéennes Festival once more takes over the Malsaucy Peninsula on the second weekend of July 2017.

Beaune International Festival of Baroque Opéra 7 – 30 July Beaune www.festivalbeaune.com The Beaune International Festival of Baroque Opera is one of the most prestigious festivals of baroque music in Europe. It perpetuates the musical traditions of the Court of the Dukes of Burgundy, considered to be one of the most brilliant in the 15th century. Operas, religious concerts, instrumental concerts and recitals are performed in classy venues such as the Collégiale Notre-Dame and the court or Salle des Pôvres in the Hôtel-Dieu in Beaune.

The Médiéval Festival (Les Médiévales) 13 – 16 July Château de Couches www.chateaudecouches.com Dozens of events are laid on every day: a display of trades from the Middle Ages, medieval fairy tales and shows for children, aerobatic demonstrations, medieval calligraphy and bookbinding workshop and a falconry show: A great atmosphere giving a taste of the Middle Ages!

Dinner and the « Lux Salina » show From 14th July to 15th August Saline Royale salt works, Arc-et-Senans www.salineroyale.com Every Friday and Saturday, dinner at the salt works is followed by a show filled with images, sounds and light. This event retraces the different periods of history and daily life at the Saline Royale from the XVIII Century to present day.

Musiques et Mémoires Festival – 24th edition From 15th to 30th July Faucogney-et-la-Mer, Pays des Mille Étangs www.musetmemoire.com A rendezvous for lovers of baroque music, the Musique et Mémoire Festival is unique in its genre and hosts the biggest names in ancient music in the grandiose setting of the Pays des Milles Étangs.

Chalon dans la Rue 19 – 23 july Chalon-sur-Saône www.chalondanslarue.com A festival using the streets as a playground. During Chalon dans la rue, all the town’s a stage with over 350,000 onlookers becoming actors and protagonists in the festival. There’s plenty of fun and poetry throughout this 5-day popular festival.

Nuits de Joux Festival – 43th edition From 21st July to 12th August Château de Joux, Pontarlier and surrounding area www.chateaudejoux.com www.cahd-lesnuitsdejoux.fr The Château de Joux and its thousand years of history provide the backdrop for the festival. Local professional and amateur artists come together for these theatre productions.

Grandes Heures Festival 27th July to 13th August Cluny www.grandesheuresdecluny.com This year, the Grandes Heures Festival in Cluny celebrates its 50th birthday! It forms part of the Grands Crus of Burgundy Music Festival, serving up a delicious blend of music and wine. The concerts are presented in a variety of venues around Cluny Abbey, as well as at the XII Century church of Saint Marcel.

The Musique aux Quatre Horizons Festival From 29th July to 6th August Colline Notre-Dame du Haut www.musiqueaux4horizons.com For the sixth consecutive year, the festival that brings the Colline Notre-Dame-du-Haut to life every summer will host talented young soloists once again. They will perform chamber music and concertos from renowned composers.

The Absinthe Festival Mid-July Pontarlier www.ville-pontarlier.fr In the middle of summer, the Absinthe Festival provides a popular and festive rendezvous. Enjoyed by all, this event reminds us that this iconic plant is part and parcel of the heritage of Pontarlier.

Vézelay lights up End July / Early August Vézelay Basilica www.vezelaytourisme.com A son et lumière show that tells the story of Vezelay over a couple of evenings: several living tableaux with characters in period costume will relive the major events at the abbey, the basilica explodes with colour, Viollet-le-Duc retraces the challenges of his restoration work…

Festival des Nuits Cajun et Zydeco 3 – 6 august Saulieu www.bayouprod.com One of its kind in Europe, this Cajun and Zydeco Nights festival held in Saulieu in the Morvan region features music, dancing, films, and gastronomy.

No Logo Festival From 11th to 13th August Fraisans www.nologofestival.fr No Logo is a natural and ethical festival, born out of an independent initiative, which advocates free thinking and collective consciousness.

Hurdy-Gurdy Festival (Fête de la Vielle) August Anost www.ugmm.org Among the events you really must attend, the 4-day Hurdy-Gurdy Festival has carved out a place of its own among the biggest festivals of traditional music and dancing. Anost resounds to the sweet sounds of bagpipes, violins, accordions and of course the hurdy-gurdy. Not forgetting the fringe events performed in the street, at pavement cafés and sometimes in private homes.

Festival Blues en Loire August La-Charité-sur-Loire www.lechatmusiques.com A colourful festival, Blues en Loire invites performers from all over the world to play their «blue notes» against the stunning backdrop of La Charité-sur-Loire, wrapping the summer up with wonderful music.

Musical Gathering in Vézelay (Les Musicales de Vézelay) 24 – 27 august Vézelay www.rencontresmusicalesdevezelay.com 10 concerts all striving for excellence, in the magical setting of the basilica, as well as in Avallon, Asquins and Saint-Père-sous-Vézelay. The Bouchons de Joigny 3rd September Joigny www.joigny-tourisme.com We often remember the traffic jams that formed in the centre of the pretty Town of Art and History as people would leave for the weekend during the 60s. Engines would overheat and we would all try to keep the children quiet as we waited! Nearly 150 vehicles will re-enact this traffic black-spot, but with fun and good humour.

Several international ensembles are invited, most notably the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra London directed by Charles Dutoit, and the Lyon National Orchestra who will compete in the Final of the 55th Young Orchestra Conductors’ Competition, whose jury will be presided over by the American maestro Leonard Slatkin.

The big outdoor concert to open the event is free and will be followed by numerous symphonic concerts, recitals and vocals, without overlooking music from around the world and after-hours Jazz in the festival’s piano-bar.

La Forestière 16th and 17th September Les Rousses www.la-forestiere.asso.fr La Forestière is one of the major challenges of long distance mountain biking (4th biggest long distance mountain biking event in the world and the 2nd largest at national level). It gathers more than 3,500 participants annually and its reputation attracts the very best riders in the world, as well as mountain bikers from across France and from abroad (Belgium, Switzerland, Spain…). From Haut-Jura to Plastic-Vallée, the best competitors from all over Europe will go head-to-head along a 100km course laid out across the Jura Massif.

Tango, Swing et Bretelles October Montceau-les-Mines www.embarcadere-montceau.fr TSB is back with a bang, set to attract tens of thousands of amateurs of all ages and origins, sometimes from far afield, to Montceau. The traditional accordion is given pride of place, in a variety of music genres and as an accompaniment to top contemporary singers. The appeal of this festival rings true to working-class tradition. NB: admission to most of the concerts is free.

Paulée on the Côte Chalonnaise From 15th to 17th October Chalon-sur-Saône www.paulee-cote-chalonnaise.fr This festival celebrates the end of the grape harvest in Chalon: tastings, a procession, the La Paulée lunch and other entertainments on the programme.

The Dijon Gastronomy Fair 31 october – 11 november Dijon www.foirededijon.com With an average of almost 600 exhibitors and 200,000 visitors each year, the Dijon food fair is the most popular event in Burgundy, the top event in terms of the economy, and ranks fifth among international fairs in France. An official ‘Foire de France’, it is a show where visitors can discover new products in a friendly, authentic setting. As from 2014, the fair will invite a wine-producing region as guest of honour.

D’Jazz Nevers Festival From 11th to 18th November Nevers www.neversdjazz.com The capital of the Nièvre sways to the Jazzy rhythms. An intimate and convivial festival.

Festivities for the 156rd Hospices de Beaune wine auction 18 - 19 November Beaune www.hospices-de-beaune.com Throughout the three days of festivities, many wine traders and vineyards open up their cellars and bottles. There’s plenty of merry entertainment with popular events such as the half marathon and street shows, tasting sessions, a bottle-opening contest and a funfair throughout the event. The festival culminates in the most famous charity auction worldwide.

Admission to some of the events and wine-tasting sessions is free.

Les Glorieuses de Bresse 16 décember Louhans www.glorieusesdebresse.com During the last week of the run-up to Christmas, the Glorieuses de Bresse festival pays tribute to livestock breeders in the region and their unique know-how, with their capons, fattened chickens, turkeys and Bresse chickens, the only poultry in the world to benefit from an official protected designation of origin. No fewer than 1,000 birds including Bresse capons and fattened chickens are on show.

The programme includes, poultry market, competitions, exhibitions, events and tasting sessions.
