C173 New Discovery: 2d Vermilion showing a previously unknown watermark consisting of an array of small diamonds, somewhat similar to the diamonds watermark on early Germany stamps (and very different to the INVICTA lozenges wmk). This new discovery is written up in the NZ Stamp Collector magazine (2018 vol.98 no.1?) by Bob Odenweller. The stamp is cancelled Coromandel and has a short corner upper right. Two certificates 2018, the Odenweller cert states “the perforations have been enhanced” and RPSNZ cert states “pinhole lower left quadrant”. The former could be questioned, the latter is obvious. One of two copies known (noted on RPSNZ cert) both discovered around 2018. As watermark varieties go, this is very distinct and of greatest rarity. Compare the 1d Brown NZ wmk SG140 / CP.A1s cat $25,000 but there are several of those.
