product and why? What is distribution? Distribution is where a
company will market a media product to its target audience.
The way a film is distributed is based on the country its being
marketed in, the genre of the film and the budget.
Therefore its important to get the right distributors for our
media product.
Summit EntertainmentThis is a UK-based company which is owned by
Lions Gate Entertainment, which is a multi-national entertainment
corporation. Summit Entertainment has distributed films like The
Dark Knight, Enders Game and Wrong Turn. These are all films that
are dramatic and dark. Therefore this company has experience
distributing films in our genre. Summit entertainment has
connections with Channel Four Television Corporation, therefore
family-friendly films distributed by Summit Entertainment are often
shown on Channel Four. Our film is moderately family friendly as it
involves no sex and the violence isnt graphic.
Universal StudiosUniversal studios is a subsidiary of Comcast.
This is a major mass-media company. Films they have distributed are
Jaws, Twister and Back to the Future. These were all high-grossing
films. Jaws is often known as the first ever blockbuster. This
means that our film would be in good hands with this distributions
company. Also this company has many international links therefore
they would be able to distribute our film to many different
countries.
