JANE AUSTEN

Jane Austen was born in 1775 in Hampshire. At the age of 14

she wrote her first novel, Love and Friendship.

As a young woman , Jane enjoyed dancing and she attended

balls in many of the great houses of the neighbourhood. Her

parents suddenly announced in 1801 that the family would

be moving away to Bath. The next four years were difficult

ones for her.

In 1813 Pride and Prejudice is published. She wrote more

than 11 novels. Jane Austen contracted a tubercular disease

of the kidneys and died in her sister's arms in 1817. She was

41 years old.

Chapter7. Mr Collins makes a proposal of marriage.

Mr Collins had decided to do it without delay, he began in a

very orderly manner with all the ceremony.

He addressed the mother in these words:

“May I hope, madam, to speak privately with your lovely

daughter Elizabeth?”

Mrs Bennet said she was sure that Lizzy could have no

objection, but she didn´t want to go, then her mother

compelled her. Mr Collins began his proposal with 3 reasons.

Elisabeth cried that he was in too much of a hurry and Mr

Collins replied that it was usual for young ladies to refuse the

man whom they secretly mean to accept.

Elisabeth cried again: “I am perfectly serious I my refusal”
