EVERYONE KNOWS THAT A TIMEPIECE by one of the most ac-
claimed watchmakers, more than luxury,
is an investment. Of course, we are talk-
ing about pieces whose manufacture is
so flawless that their value keeps grow-
ing year after year, which would never
happen with an ordinary watch.
Jaeger-LeCoultre is one of the most
acclaimed watchmakers, brand of in-
ternational prestige and famous thanks
to their impossible complications and
reversible watches. This brand offers
the world real masterpieces, made by
Jaeger LecoultreJaeger LecoultreENGRAVED ELEGANCE
the hands of a new generation of young
watchmakers ready to conquer the world
of this exacting market.
Choose your favorite timepiece and
make it truly your own by requesting the
exclusive engraving process, trademark
of this house. Engrave your initials, the
portrait of a loved one, an unforgettable
date in which time seemed to stop, you
name it.
Take this wonderful opportunity and
make any time your own with a Jaeger-

GAZILLIONAIRE OLSEN SISTERS, now far
away from the nursery days of “Full House” and at
age 27, have successfully earned a name for them-
selves as business women and fantastic fashion
designers: they are making their own way, creat-
ing new trends and pleasing the world as they do.
The famous Alligator Backpack is the perfect
token of what The Row –their brand– has to
show to the world as a masterpiece of beauty
and functionality: no wonder why these twins
are defi nitely the fashion IT girls.
Equ Lifestyle presents you with their most
luxurious bag ever since they launched their
brand in 2006 and their bags collections in 2011.
There are only 12 limited edition backpacks,
each and every one with fancy details like: real
gold metalwork, hand made stitching, exclusive
leather and more.
All that lavishness comes in different shades
to bedazzle anyone.
Handmade in Italy under the traditional leath-
er tooling techniques and exclusive and original
wares, this The Row Alligator Backpack is the
ultimate object of affection in the fashion world.
A demure yet outstanding design made of
black alligator patent leather from the Nile re-
sults in an elegant, sophisticated and luxurious
bag you just can’t help but coveting. Plus its
practical size helps you easily accommodate ev-
erything you carry along on a daily basis.
Alligator leather helps the body of the bag
stand imposingly, the adjustable straps help
you get a better fi tting to your body, many inner
pockets keep all the stuff you need orderly and,
for the casual touch, a top cord for the girls who
like to carry their backpack on the side shoulder,
on their hands or any way they see fi t. You just
have to make it your own.
With a breathtaking starting price of $39,000
dollars for each alligator backpack handmade in
Italy, this bag is the most expensive from The Row
collection. But rest assured that the outstanding
quality in design and richness of its raw material
are way more fantastic than money can buy.

THE BEST way to deal with
the weather we’ll be having on
the next few months, is to dress
in layers that you can put on and
remove again and again through-

Happy Holidays’ sHopping
Wine and Fashion Go toGether at Melero’s
“The building on India Street in little Italy where I ope-
ned my first clothing store was built in 1888 and is on the
list of historical properties in San Diego. So I made the
place a little elegant a little whimsical, much like the litt-
le building that it’s in. Now the potential for the property
has increased greatly as the neighborhood, little Italy, is
rapidly becoming the center of downtown San Diego’s ur-
ban nightlife. Over the years I’ve thought how much fun it
would be to own a little wine tasting room, my own little
bistro wine bar. I’ve spent a lot of time traveling around
the world and on those trips I’ve always loved sitting at the
outdoor cafés watching the world go by. The little bistros
of Europe are such an intricate part of everyday life. One
afternoon while daydreaming at my little clothing store
about sitting in one of those cafés, the idea came to me
- Why not have my own? Why not turn my store into my
own unique wine bar right in the middle of little Italy? So
that’s what I’m doing! I’m designing it to have the look that
it’s been there for 100+ years. Just like the little house that
I’m building it in. The old wood floors, a small standup bar
with the wonderful French bistro chairs, the old wainsco-
ting, slow rotating fans. It looks like it’s been there as long
as the historical house where its located. It’s a small space,
so I’m designing it to be something wonderfully intimate
and romantic. With all the restaurants that already exist
in little Italy and the numerous ones that are being built,
quite literally as we speak, well you can buy a glass of wine
in any of them. In my little wine shop, I want to do more
than just sell you a glass of wine, I want you to leave with
a memory.” –Ruth Melero

We Wear perfume because it rap-
tures us, it tells the world who we are. Choos-
ing the right fragrance is complicated, because
our aroma is a constant message we send to the
world to reveal some aspects of our personality.
Today, choosing the right perfume is inspired
not only in the image that the fragrance projects,
but also by the perception of the scents and so,
choosing the right one becomes a crucial deci-
sion for a glamorous lifestyle.
The worldly acclaimed perfumer Roja Dove
is widely known as the highest authority in the
world of perfumes. He spent almost 20 years
working for Guerlain perfumes and after con-
tributing to create several fragrances for dif-
ferent brands, he decided to create his own
personal collection that developed into a 15-fra-
grance collection for both men and women.
In this issue, Equ Lifestyle invites you to
discover, among these fantastic creations, the
magnificent Roja Risqué Chypré from Roja
Dove, a fragrance for women. This perfume
was presented earlier this year. With bergamot
hints on the exit note, a heart note made of
mai rose, jasmine and ylang-ylang and bottom
notes made of ginger, cinnamon, oak musk,
vetiver, patchouli, oak, vanilla, amber among
others, this perfume is bound to become a sen-
sation for stylish women everywhere.
Every Roja creation is bottled in a fine French
bottle designed exclusively for the brand and
luxuriously embellished with the best materi-
als. The lovely artisan bottles are hand-made
and engraved with pure 24k gold and a distinc-
tive Swarovksi lid to give it a special touch.
Passion and enthusiasm for perfume has lead
Roja Dove to find the perfect smell for the per-
fect person. In his own words: “Elegance is a
personal expression, it says it all about yourself
and not about someone else.”
Luxury is definitely an experience, it is not
a matter of pure aesthetics or decorations: it
is arriving to a place where you know when
something is the best. Feel that sensations as
you discover Roja Dove’s world of perfumes.

THE RIVIERA MAYA is a fascinating place,
with endless wonders you can enjoy all year
round. It contains everything from ancient
Mayan ruins, wildlife areas conducive to eco-
tourism and beautiful beaches to relax and
have a varied and ever surprising cuisine that
will fascinate you. Here are some reasons
why you should visit the Riviera Maya.
Equ Lifestyle recommends the best pla-
ces where you can enjoy luxury holidays,
like Tulum, the only Mayan archaeological
site located by the sea, that has splendid
views of the Mexican Caribbean.
Another one of our recommendations
is Xcaret, known for showing the most re-
presentative natural and cultural aspects of
Mexico. In addition, you may take part in
various water sports on its cenotes (natural
ponds) and underground rivers. Likewise,
its various shows highlight the traditions of
the Maya and Mexican heritage.

Maya you will fi nd authentic Mayan food

prepared with the same ingredients than
centuries ago, giving the impression that
you just went back in time. Of course, they
also offer an eclectic mixture of culinary
delights to tempt even the pickiest eaters.
Visiting spas is something you should
always try here. The treatments offered in
the Riviera Maya are a fusion of modern te-
chniques with the ancient wisdom of the
Maya, using natural ingredients with which
to achieve the renewal of body and soul.
In addition to natural wonders, cultu-
re here is also worth seeing. November
brings one of the most renowned jazz fes-
tivals in the world, the Riviera Maya Jazz
Festival: three days of wonderful music
and world-class guests. This festival takes
place at Mamita’s Beach Club, Playa del
Carmen, Mexico. If you are into golf, an
excellent option is El Camaleon Mayakoba.
This fi eld was named due to its dramatic
change of scenery from jungle, mangrove
and sea. Its spectacular facilities will make
this practice unique to you.
You’ll never get tired of admiring the Ri-
viera Maya: it offers a combination of co-
lors and unique sunsets; a sacred land, re-
vered by generations full of knowledge and
wisdom that never ceases to amaze.

The blissful touch
GRand Velas ResoRt spaThis enclosure, winner of the Condé Nast’s Most
Excellent Spa Hotel award, knows how to keep us
in harmony: by pampering our senses.
From the moment you get here, you can feel its
serene atmosphere and the luxury of its installa-
tions: your cozy refuge to live a highly revitalizing
experience, starting by its ceremonies, inspired by
the natural beauty of the Pacific Coast.
These ceremonies have been inspired by the
four elements and provide the benefits of each.
We recommend our favorite, the huichol ceremo-
ny: a treatment that will nurture each and every
part of your body. It starts with Tau-Sol, a natural
exfoliation in which the avocado seed, rice and
sandal are wrapped around your body, giving you
a feeling of freshness and leaving your skin visibly
smoother and brighter; after that, ask for a gentle
and relaxing massage as the Tukipa, where obsid-
ian puts you in touch with your body heat to acti-
vate your circulation, as this volcanic stone is said
to help harmonize energy and to promote a state
of calm and balance; the Coffee Body Wrap is the
perfect ending: an innovate treatment that facili-
tates thorough toxin disposal thought the proper-
ties of green coffee and mate herb extract that will
make you feel in the clouds.
If you visit the Riviera Nayarit, take a pause to
enjoy this spa which, with sublime details, will
you heal your body, mind and soul.

Meet the Media Mavens Behind Some Big W’s in Equestrian Sport
Behind the scenes of the successful FTI Consulting
Winter Equestrian Festival and the Washington Inter-
national Horse Show, you’ll fi nd the hardworking team
of Jennifer Wood Media, Inc. running the press room,
working tirelessly to promote and publicize the events and high-
lights. Jennifer Wood launched her eponymous public relations
fi rm in 2010, and she and her team cover equestrian events and
clients throughout North America.
HOW IT STARTEDWood is a lifelong equestrian – she started riding at age seven
and continued through school, earning a spot on the University of
South Carolina Equestrian Team. After graduating with a degree
in marketing and business, she worked for several Olympic show
jumpers in a variety of roles before entering the public relations
fi eld, joining Phelps Media Group, Inc. in 2005. “It was good tim-
ing – I wanted to stay in Wellington and Phelps Media Group was
looking for a writer.”
Five years later, she launched Jennifer Wood Media, Inc. and
Equestrian Sport Productions was the fi rst company to enlist the
fi rm’s services. “I couldn't have asked for a better fi rst client,” says
Wood. “The show and my involvement with them has grown each
year and now I work with the ESP team on the FTI Consulting Win-
ter Equestrian Festival (WEF) and the Adequan Global Dressage
Festival, along with other ESP events at Palm Beach International
Equestrian Center year-round.”
WEF WONDERS“One of my favorite moments at WEF was seeing the fi rst Great
Charity Challenge come to fruition. The event has raised $4.2 mil-
lion for Palm Beach County charities in four years, a pretty stagger-
ing number in my mind. I still don't think many of the riders at WEF
understand how important the event is to the charities that partici-
pate – one great little local charity, Wheels for Kids, fulfi lled their
yearly quota and their entire waiting list of customized wheelchairs
for handicapped children (who otherwise couldn't afford them) just
from the prize money they received in the 2011 event.”
One of Wood’s favorite WEF experiences includes watching
and reporting on the Olympic and World Equestrian Game Trials.
“There are always new horse and rider combinations that jump up
and surprise you.”
Nations Cup night during the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian
Festival is another highlight. Every section of the arena fi lls with
eager supporters, painted and dressed in their country’s colors, wav-
ing banners and fl ags - they bring a welcome level of rowdiness to
the international event. “It's always fun seeing everyone get into the
spirit of national pride,” Wood explains.
WINNING IN WASHINGTONIn 2010 and 2011, JWM did on-site press release coverage for the
Washington International Horse Show (WIHS), and that relation-
ship has grown in the past two years to include running their press
room and handling their equestrian media partnerships.
Located in the heart of Washington, D.C. the WIHS celebrated its
55th year in 2013. “Having a show in the center of a big city presents
some interesting challenges – but we love capturing the excitement
of the mix of horses and the metropolis.”
One of Wood’s most memorable moments at the WIHS was watch-
ing Lillie Keenan win the Washington International Equitation Fi-
nals when she was just thirteen years old, the youngest rider to ever

win the Finals. Another highlight was seeing Sapphire and McLain
Ward win the prestigious President’s Cup Grand Prix, twice.
Around the WorldAfter having written hundreds of articles and press releases, Wood
notes some of her favorite show jumping moments. Early in her
career Wood wrote about Kent Farrington and Madison’s win in
the KL Grand Prix at the 2006 World Cup Finals in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia. “Kent and I competed together in Chicago as juniors. It
was amazing to see him win there. I always knew he would be a
successful rider, but I didn't think I would be at these international
events interviewing him.” As a bonus, her article won that year’s
USEF Pegasus Award for “Single News Article.”
And another worldly wonder, “I was lucky to witness the U.S. win-
ning the gold medal in a jump-off with Canada at the 2008 Olympic
Games in Beijing. To top it off, I got to see Hickstead and Eric La-
maze win the individual gold medal, and Beezie Madden and Au-
thentic win the bronze.”
She laughs, recalling one of the lighter moments she had covering
those 2008 Olympics, where Rolf- Göran Bengtsson lost his bid for
the individual gold medal after his horse knocked the top off the
wall. “Those two weeks were probably the most sleep deprived I've
ever been in my life, and that was the final
press conference of the Olympic equestrian
events. In front of everyone, I ended up blurt-
ing out, ‘What happened!?’ It got a big laugh
from the riders and the other journalists, and
while it was a terrible question, I ended up
with a good answer.”
She says that covering a lot of major inter-
national events early in her career helped her
become comfortable around famous riders.
“You learn quickly to swallow your nerves
and just walk up to them with questions.”
But she adds, “George Morris still makes me
a little nervous, though!”
the Future oF equestriAn MediAAs show managers move toward a greater
presence and event coverage through social
media, Wood appreciates the opportunity to show a little more
personality. “It’s more casual than written press releases, and much
faster. People can indirectly discover content that interests them,
and the reach is much greater. Though social media is becoming
increasingly more important, I do think a good balance with tradi-
tional releases is still necessary.”
In addition to expanded social media pres-
ence, Jennifer Wood sees video as becoming
a much more important aspect of event cov-
erage. “We were the first and, maybe still the
only ones, to include video links in our daily
event coverage press releases. They really
add to the experience. It makes the experience more personal when
you can read about what happened in the class and then watch an
interview with the winner.”
Perhaps the most rewarding part of her job is being able to pro-
mote the sport that she truly loves. “I enjoy explaining equestrian
sports to people and reporters who aren't familiar with it. I like try-
ing to find unique and new ways to promote events. I really enjoy
photography, though I don't have a chance to do enough of it these
days. And I enjoy the chance to write at special events like the North
American Junior Young Rider Championships - there are always a
ton of fantastic stories there.”
tWo PAssionsWood enjoys discovering behind-the-scenes stories and knowing
more about the riders and their horses. “I love talking to the more
candid riders. Sometimes people will surprise you with how much
they are willing to reveal, which is wonderful. It's what everybody
wants to read: What makes them tick? How do they do it?”
To unwind between shows, Wood spends time with her husband
and family. A vegetarian for over seven years, she is always trying
new recipes – and consistently posts photos and descriptions of her
latest culinary creations on Facebook.

How would you describe your par-ticipation witH tHe brand? did you transform it completely in order to fulfill your expectations or was tHe brand tHe rigHt fit for you all along?I have been working with Ferragamo for 15
years now, and I would define this process as
an evolution, both for the brand and for me.
I have always admired the craftsmanship, the
values, the tradition and class of Ferragamo
and now I try to take it into a new era. I think
this moment is about a new kind of minimal-
ism and I try to blend all these elements in a
very Italian way, that reflects what Ferragamo
is all about. Very contemporary, very cool,
very modern but still very inspired in Italy
and specially Florence.
wHat Have you been up to lately? wHat is new for tHe brand?I just came back from Los Angeles where
we just celebrated 100 years of Salvatore Fer-
ragamo. That really means a lot because we
are a brand that is very into craftsmanship,
working with your hands and embellish ev-
ery detail so that it can be as beautiful as it
could possibly be. That really means a lot for
me, because I come from a family that really
cherishes all those values, that knowledge,
that culture and we are extremely attached to
that as an inspiration.
wHat does it mean to you being recognized as tHe de-signer of tHe year for latin america?I am extremely proud. Every time I receive
an award, it means a lot to me because I work
a lot every year, every single day. I always
work planning a year in advance so it really
makes me happy to finally get to see the final
result of our work. And if people like it there
is nothing better than that.
wHere do you get your inspiration?Everywhere! in the last two seasons, I spe-
cially worked a lot under the influence of two
Mexican architects, Barragan and Aragones.
They were a major source of inspiration for
me during the last two collections and the
campaign for last year. I also find that the
art scene is becoming very haute and being
able to capture it and reflect it in our designs
is amazing.
wHat can we expect from your up-coming collection?I have been thinking about fashion as a life-
style, a form of art, I have a strong passion
for art, it is probably my greatest source of
inspiration. So, as a designer, you have to be
able to catch up with the moment you are
in. I am extremely proud of our next collec-
tion, as I said before: we are trying to create
a new kind of minimalism, focusing on the
structure rather than the prints or the colors.
The idea of luxury is changing a lot, for me
it’s about the execution, the quality and for
me definitely the Italianism. Ferragamo is a
brand that has always been extremely con-
nected to the idea of luxury and perfection.
in your own words, wHat is your main goal as a designer for fer-ragamo?To breathe and understand what people de-
sires and then of course, to be able to trans-
late it into a fashionable statement.
do you design for a particular kind of person?Of course I do, though it is not always a real
muse, sometimes it is an invention that you
just made up. I always imagine the kind of
lifestyle that I want to create for. Ferragamo
is a brand with a great heritage of red carpets,
celebrities, and it is all about the most beauti-
ful dress, the most beautiful jewels and so on.
I like to think that fashion is becoming
way more democratic, it is everyday we
get to see big brands mixed with everyday
streets brand and I find it to be way more
enjoyable that way.
As head designer for Ferragamo, Massimiliano Giornetti has created a legacy of his own. By taking the company to the next level with his amazing designs, true reflections of the sophistication and elegance one would expect from the brand, and imprinting his own inspiration and his one of a kind style.

Fifteen years of maturity are needed after a year
harvest for this champagne to reveal its inten-
sity. Made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay,
it is named Oenothéque when it has completed its
full maturation. This majestic complexity is evident
in the notes of caramel syrup with toasted elements
and minerals, lemon and dried fi gs. Showing a mag-
nifi cent golden-green tone, it evokes remarkable el-
egance and strength.
Fresh, lively, with tiny and persistent bubbles, ro-
bust but sophisticated with a touch of coffee at the
end, it is best accompanied by an exquisite crab soup
with a hint of lemongrass and coconut, or perhaps
accompanied by a sublime cigar?

Indulge yourself in the complexity ofChampagne Brut Krug “Grande Cuvée”
The Rose Dom Ruinart is the result of blending Chardonnay in a higher
proportion and Pinot Noir from grand cru vineyards. A bright pink
champagne with golden hues and coral tones that enhance their pres-
ence as the champagne ages. The bouquet delivers an elegant mixture of the
fl oral character of roses and geranium, along with yellow and red prunes, ber-
ries and red currants. The superb maturity of the blend becomes evident sev-
eral minutes after tasting, when the champagne shows mellow notes of cream
and fruit marmalade, white chocolate and grapefruit, with a delicious honey
aftertaste. The Chardonnay delivers smoothness, and freshness. The aftertaste
is fully structured, expressing the personality of the Pinot Noir. The comple-
mentary character of the grape varieties and the uniqueness of the blend make

The Equestrian
Indoor Season
Known in equestrian circles as ‘Indoors’, the fall wel-
comes a series of traditional competitions on the East
Coast. Riders set their sights on qualifying for these
prestigious horse shows early in the year, so far many it
is the culmination of the show season.
Offering classes for pony riders through International show jump-
ers and all divisions in-between, the shows are a tremendous collec-
tion of equestrians of all ages and experience, all with their eye on
the prize – winning at Indoors.
FIRST STOP: UPPER MARLBORO, MDThe youngest of the series of shows, The Capital Challenge Horse
Show, is now 20 years old. Over a nine-day stretch in late Septem-
ber through early October at Prince George’s Equestrian Center
in Upper Marlboro, MD, the event does offer classes indoors as
well as outdoors. The long list of special classes that attract riders
from all over the United States are a highlight in the indoor arena,
including World Champion Hunter Riders who compete for the
top spots in the prestigious $25,000 WCHR Professional Challenge
and WCHR Professional Finals. capitalchallenge.org
SECOND STOP: HARRISBURG, PAThe next stop is often called ‘Harrisburg’ by insiders, but the proper
name is the Pennsylvania National Horse Show (PNHS). Hosted
at the Farm Show Complex, which is twenty-four acres under one
roof, the one aspect this indoor show doesn’t lack is space. For al-
most seventy years the team behind this event has continued to of-
fer the coveted USEF Hunter Seat Medal Finals, where hundreds of
junior riders compete in a challenging year-end class. All competi-
tors have to qualify to earn an invite to this traditional indoor event,
which hosts ten national championships and the $85,000 Grand Prix
de Penn National over ten days. panational.org

THIRD STOP: WASHINGTON DCAnother fabulous fall event on the equestrian scene in late October
is the Washington International Horse Show (WIHS). Celebrating
its 55th year, WIHS is one of the few events hosted in the middle
of a large metropolitan city, the horses are stabled on the streets
surrounding the Verizon Center in downtown DC. Evenings are
fi lled with exciting events that bring in spectators from miles away,
including the popular Barn Night, Jack Russell Races, Shetland Pony
Races, a Halloween Costume Gamblers Choice jumper class, a Puis-
sance (a competition of height over a solid-looking brick wall) and
the prestigious $125,000 Presidents Cup Grand Prix. wihs.org
FINAL STOP: LEXINGTON, KYFounded in New York by a group of infl uential sportsmen, the Na-
tional Horse Show (NHS) was once the social and equestrian place
to be seen in Manhattan. Looking for a new venue, the NHS moved
out of the city after over a hundred years. Hosted at the Meadow-
lands in NJ, back to the Garden, then Welington, FL, then Syracuse,
NY, the show that culminated the end of the American Indoor Cir-
cuit settled in its current location in 2011. After hosting the World
Equestrian Games in 2010, Alltech generously jumped on board to
support the event. Once again attracting top national and interna-
tional riders that must qualify for an invite, the Alltech National
Horse Show hosts only the top competitors in hunters, equitation,
show jumping and saddle seat. From crowning the ASPCA Medal
Maclay Medal Final winner to the $250,000 Alltech Grand Prix, the
show dazzles with equestrian excellence. alltechnationalhorseshow.com

Maserati Ghibli Q4
Classics of
Elegance
The advent of the new Maserati Ghibli means two
concurrent four-door sedan models for the fi rst time,
marking a turning point in Maserati history.
Unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show, the Ghibli
is smaller, shorter, lighter and more dynamic than
the fl agship Quattroporte.
Its gas range provides high performance from both the power
outputs from the twin turbo-charged, 3.0-liter V6 gas engine and it
also offers customers the choice of rear or all-wheel drive in an E-
segment luxury sports sedan.
The Ghibli has a more focused, sportier philosophy than the Quat-
troporte and its most powerful model, the Ghibli S, boasts 301 kW
of power, races to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and stretches out to a top
speed of 175 mph.
The Ghibli’s design team was challenged
to produce a sedan that emphasized its more
dynamic driving characteristics through a
more aggressive visual personality, yet still
maintained discernible visual links with the
Quattroporte. That is the reason why, though
shorter and 50 kg lighter, the Ghibli shares
much of its core architecture, including its
crash safety, chassis, suspension architectu-
re, engines and LED headlight technology,
with the larger Quattroporte.
The Ghibli has entered the E-segment
sports premium market with a marked ad-
vantage in cabin craftsmanship and detai-

Classics of
Elegance This stunning vehicle is, without
a doubt, the most powerful in
its class. It has a 5.5-liter V8 en-
gine, twin-turbo injection and
seven-speed gearbox, with an output out
of range: 577 hp at 5,500 rpm. The handling
is smooth and reliable, thanks to the four-
wheel traction controlled by the 4MATIC
system, which maintains stability and con-
trol without compromising comfort, even
in extreme driving conditions. Moreover,
its aerodynamic optimized line allows the
car to have an outstanding performance,
accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9
seconds, with a top speed electronically
controlled at 270 km/h.
For more safety, it also features a high-tech
ceramic and carbon based braking system.
On the other hand, its weight has been re-
duced by using a lithium battery—much
lighter than conventional accumulators—,
and the use of aluminum and fi berglass in
the bodywork and interior, which makes
it much lighter and sporty. And for classic
cars lovers, the S63 AMG has a vintage gear
shift and fl ywheel, reminiscent of yesteryear
sports cars. In a nutshell, this Mercedes is
not a modest car but, why should it be?

The new Audi A8 transcends any
preconceptions of luxury and
comfort. This vehicle means an
extraordinary achievement for
Audi automotive engineering, as it combi-
nes spaciousness with a sports, aerodyna-
mic outline, as well as a soft and pleasant
handling provided by the Audi Quattro®
four-wheel drive system, and even the te-
chnological advances in its conception are
a treat for the senses: it features Audi Con-
nect®, which provides access to the 3-D sa-
tellite images provided by Google EarthTM,
weather forecasts, news service and free wifi
access for up to eight users, as well as the
Audi MMI®, which provides absolute control
over the vehicle at the touch of a finger.
The Audi A8 technology implementation
is fastidiously exacting, but easy to enjoy; even the smallest details
are a token of Audi engineers’ obsession with quality and comfort:
the window glass curve extends up to the instrument panel, giving a
pleasant surrounding feeling, while fine wood interior details inspire
a high sense of elegance, in which even the button layout has been
carefully considered in appearance and functionality

THERE’S AN ‘I’ & AN
‘A’ in this Team
The green and black colors of the Team Rakowsky ban-
ner are seen at horse shows all around the world. And
wherever that banner waves, the hard working duo that
started it all are close by. Ivan Rakowsky, the outgoing,
well-dressed trainer that the ‘I’ in Team is aptly named after, and
his partner Arly Golombek, the witty, soft-spoken rider and trainer
that beautifully brings her ‘A’ aspect to the game. He is often at the
forefront, training and negotiating, while she rides multiple horses
daily and keeps a close eye on the care and training programs. The
twosome’s continuous hard work and dedication to the sport has
grown the team as well as the business by leaps and bounds from
when it began nearly fi fteen years ago.
IN THE BEGINNINGWhen Ivan Rakowsky left his hometown of Mexico City in the late
1990’s, he had no idea that his dreams for a career in the horse in-
dustry would grow into Team Rakowsky LLC; a fl ourishing training
and sales operation based in the United States.
Hailing from a scholarly family, his mother a doctor from Mexico
City, and his Ukrainian father a college professor with multiple de-
grees living in Michigan, Rakowsky was the only horseman in the
family. He began working with horses at the young age of six years
old and by eight he started taking formal lessons in the discipline of
show jumping. He continued riding and competing on the Mexican
show circuit through his teenage years.
While Rakowsky was evolving as a junior rider south of the border,
over two thousand miles away a young girl in Detroit, Michigan was
just beginning her riding career. Also realizing her serious equestri-
an passion early on, Arly Golombek competed on the circuits locally
and nationally in her country.
Growing out of the junior ranks, Rakowsky decided it was time for
a change and moved to Michigan to live with his father. He tried life
without horses, but that only lasted a few short weeks. Soon he was
riding and beginning to consider a career as a professional at a barn
outside of Detroit. That same summer, Golombek had spent the sea-
son in Alaska and upon returning to her routine at the barn, she
noticed a new young man, Ivan, was riding there. Taking an interest
in each other’s passion, a new relationship blossomed.
Soon after Golombek graduated from Michigan State University
with a degree in Business Management, but as she explained, her
heart had always been with the horses. “I think I knew as soon as I
started riding that I wanted to have a career with horses, and ride
for my whole life.” Rakowsky shared the sentiment, “I think I knew
all along that I wanted to be involved with horses.”
Clearly the two were destined to start a business, and Team Ra-
kowsky came to fruition. “It was the natural progression of what I
was doing at the time,” Rakowsky explained. “I had started riding
professionally here in the states and then buying and selling horses, Phot

and it just grew from there.” Golombek went on to add the reason
why they chose the name Team Rakowsky. “We didn’t actually own
a farm at the time and the people that worked with us, and for us
were part of our team. Early on we wanted to emphasize that every-
one was equally important. Whether it was grooms, clients, vets,
or farriers, we knew each one was a part of our team, so instead of
running a farm, we run a team.”
WHAT MAKES THE TEAM TICKAsk either partner about their business, and they both empha-
size the team aspect. “It is something that I am really proud of,”
Rakowsky smiled. “I think that we have the most well-rounded,
knowledgeable and reliable group of people involved with us.
When I fi rst started, especially when I had the opportunity to go
to bigger shows; I realized the importance of meticulous horse
care and attention to detail and the need to have everybody work-
ing together. To me, that is the most important thing about Team
Rakowsky, that we are indeed a team.”
Both Rakowsky and Golombek explained what keeps the banner
and the team thriving through the inevitable ups and downs of the
horse industry. “We have many aspects to the team, but buying
and selling horses is our main source of revenue,” Golombek said.
Rakowsky added, “We have been very fortunate to develop many
strong relationships across the country and internationally with
professionals and clients. But more important than the number
of horses we sell is that when people buy horses from us they
become repeat customers.”
Golombek went on to say, “Another aspect of our business is tak-
ing clients on the road and bringing them up the ranks to the upper
levels of riding. Training our clients and helping them to fulfi ll their
dreams is what drives us, that is a big part of our passion. We are
equally passionate about training new horses. They are all so differ-
ent, and they all teach us something.”
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATIONBased in Wellington, FL from late fall into late spring and Lexington,
KY from early summer into fall, Team Rakwosky purposely picked
two ideal locations. Both offer a vibrant equine community; some of
the country’s best horses shows and facilities as well as an eques-
trian lifestyle.
“When I fi rst started going to Wellington almost fi fteen years ago
it was only for a few weeks or so. Over the years the circuit grew
in size and length and what had started as a month in Florida has
turned into almost six months.” Rakowsky explained of their choice
to spend half of the year in Wellington. “It just makes sense for us to
be there. Technically it is home, since that is where my mail goes,”
he added jokingly.
“I have always loved Lexington, ever since I was a young kid. There
is something so special about that area,” Golombek said with a smile.
“It is centrally located with major cities close by, which makes it easy
for traveling to shows outside of the state, like Ohio and Michigan.
21Equ_Team.indd 67 02/12/13 15:41
68 [ equlifestyle.com ]
Donwntown Lexington offers culture, great restaurants and a nice
nightlife. The horses love the grass and the turnout. Plus, The Ken-
tucky Horse Park, I feel, is second to none as a show jumping facil-
ity. There are two indoors arenas, amazing outdoor arenas, trails and
hills, which are all great for the horses.” Golombek explained.
EquinE MEMoriEsRakwosky reminisced about the early days. ¨It was always some-
what unique and interesting how I got to train some of the nice
horses that I did, usually the ones that started out quirky and maybe
the underdog. We would put so much time and effort into produc-
ing them and getting them as far along as we could, we would end
up developing such a special bond with each one. It seemed be-
cause of the bond, the horses wanted to do so much more for you
than you ever really thought they could.”
To that point, Rakowsky remembers one horse in particular that
holds a special place in his heart. “I think Langero was my favorite
horse to train. We bought him as a seven year old and I did the Na-
tions Cup in Wellington in 2004 with him as an eight year old. I was
really proud of that one.”
Rakowsky credits much of what he has learned along the way to
show jumping legend Margie Engle. “I admire her horsemanship
and her work ethic, but the thing I admire the most is that she is
truly the best competitor out there.”
As far as a favorite horse that Team Rakowsky has sold, he says
there have been many. “I think we have been very fortunate to have
been able to see a lot of the horses we have sold go on to be hunter
champions, equitation champions, and grand prix winners.”
“I can’t say that I have had a favorite horse that I have trained or
sold either,” Golombek stated. “It would be easy for me to say that
one is my favorite because it jumped the best, or one is my favorite
because it jumped the biggest, or was easiest to ride, but to me they
are a little bit like my children. I love them all because they each
have their own specialty and are good for different reasons.”
And so ThE TEAM EndurEsWhether at rest or on the road, horses require care daily, including
weekends and holidays. Golombek summed it up when she stated,
“In order to get up 365 days a year and think about something from
morning until night you really have to love it.”
With fifteen years of success stories, it is apparent that the ‘I’ and
‘A’ in Team Rakowsky have mastered the art of working together and
team building in a fast-paced industry where caring for both the
horse and the client are paramount. But, as the duo would argue, the
rewards are well worth the commitment. At the end of the day nei-
ther looks at it as a business, but as an enduring equestrian passion.

FAVoriTE EquEsTriAn sTYLE For ridEr?Ivan: I feel that the classic equestrian style makes our sport so
unique. This is still the only sport I can think of where you are
required to compete with a jacket and a tie. There is something
very special about that to me. It is by nature very glamorous.

Running Sexy A Syndicate Story
Hoping to bring new people into the sport of horserac-
ing, Kentucky native Anna Seitz put together a group
of high school and college friends and others who
have touched her life, and formed a syndicate. Keep-
ing the contributions to the syndicate small so that the members
didn’t have to be wealthy, Seitz made the investment affordable and
accessible to a spirited group who could enjoy the intoxicating feel-
ing of racing together. Twenty enthusiastic young people signed
on, among them a lawyer, schoolteachers, a football coach, and a
Catholic seminary student, and most of the participants had never
owned a racehorse. “My purpose was and is to have fun,” Seitz stat-
ed. “To bring people into the sport for the pure pleasure of it, and as
they learn from their involvement, they will be able to go on and do
things on their own, or join other partnerships.”
No stranger to the Thoroughbred industry, Seitz grew up in Ver-
sailles, Kentucky, on her parents’ Brookdale Farm, now run by her
two brothers under the tutelage of their father Fred Seitz. Follow-
ing her graduation from Notre Dame, Anna entered the industry as
an administrative assistant to trainer Todd Pletcher, and in January
2009 she joined the staff of Fasig-Tipton Sales Company as Market-
ing Assistant and Client Coordinator.
Her not yet named syndicate raised enough money to buy a rea-
sonably priced yearling ($20,000) and pay the fi rst six months‘ ex-
penses. So the fun began at the 2011 Fasig-Tipton October Yearling
Sale, when Bloodstock agent and longtime Seitz family friend Bob
Feld helped put together a group of eight yearlings to consider.
Seitz was drawn to the fi lly by Ready’s Image that would later be-
come the syndicate’s fi rst purchase. "I worked with Ready's Image
when he was a race horse and I always liked him. He was really good
at two and he liked the Polytrack at Keeneland." It was important,
thought Seitz, to purchase a yearling that showed the potential to be
a runner at age two, in order to keep her syndicate of young partners
and people new to the sport interested from the outset.
Foaled on March 9, 2010, at Equus Farm in Nicholasville, Ken-
tucky, the fi lly was one of the fi rst crop of Ready’s Image foals,
and the fi fth foal for her dam Klohho, who had already produced a
winner of $96,962.
Because of her lineage, the Ready’s Image fi lly seemed likely to be
out of their price range, but a stroke of luck intervened. “She got
caught up in a fence before the sale and had cuts on her back legs,
which I think turned some buyers off. We just took a risk with her
and ended up making a pretty good choice.”
After the sale Seitz gathered her group together for a naming party,
for both their new fi lly and the syndicate. Thrilled with their pur-
chase, in an atmosphere of high spirits, the fi lly’s name grew out
of the music playing in the background, and Hit the Board Stables
became the name for the syndicate.
The transition from farm to training stable is not an easy one for a
young horse. Suddenly there are no more paddocks to romp in, and
the newcomer is surrounded by the chaos of horses, people and the
start of track life. It takes the skill of a good trainer to guide a horse
through such diffi cult changes.

Wayne Catalano, who has three Breeders’ Cup wins to his
credit, all of them Juvenile Filly races, was their choice of trainer.
“Wayne is great. He understands and supports what I’m doing,
and he’s fun to be around.”
On August 23, 2012, at Chicago’s Arlington Park, I’m Already Sexy
made her debut in a Maiden Special Weights race with a $40,000
purse. Racing against other fillies who had not yet won a race
(maidens), she ran well for a first outing, but didn’t win. Over a
month later in October 2012, she was entered in another Maiden
Special Weights race at Keeneland during the fall racing season.
She won and ‘broke her maiden,’ to the delight of her owners.
"A lot of the partners live in Lexington and always dreamed of
running at Keeneland,” said Seitz. “So when she broke her maiden
there it was definitely a WOW moment.” And then the filly set their
hearts pounding again in November, winning a $52,000 Allowance
race at Churchill Downs in Louisville. In January 2013 she ran in
her first stakes race at Gulfstream Park in Miami, the $75,000 Ginger
Brew Stakes, finishing fifth.
“We all agreed that rather than pushing her we would give her
some time just to be on the farm,” said Seitz. So I'm Already Sexy
was sent to relax and refresh at Bridlewood Farm in the capable
hands of Jonathan Thomas, a time that Seitz believes was an im-
portant part of her training. Her next race was almost half a year
later in June 2013, the Meafara Stakes at Arlington. Practicing an
overabundance of caution, her jockey pulled her up thinking she
was hurt, to find out that she was perfectly sound.
So trainer Catalano entered her again in July at Arlington, thrilling
her team by posting yet another win in a $48,000 allowance race. In
August 2013 she traveled to Canterbury Downs in Minnesota to run
4th in the $100,000 Northbound Pride Oaks Stakes, an experience,
said Seitz, that was more akin to a rodeo than a horserace. “There
was a lot of bumping and crashing among the fillies. I’m Already
Sexy took her share of contact, but came through well enough in the
end. We crossed this race off the list and moved on.”
Returning to Arlington two weeks later, she posted a decisive win
by 4 3/4 lengths in the $81,000 Hatoof Stakes, outclassing her compe-
tition and electrifying her owners. But, as reported by Alicia Winc-
ze Hughes in the Lexington Herald Leader, it was her gate-to-wire
(meaning she led from start to finish) triumph in the Grade III Pucker
Up Stakes at Arlington a month later that took her to new heights and
sent her posse into orbit. At this point Seitz admitted, “So I thought
we could go to the races and have a drink together, dress up, enjoy the
day. That was our goal," she recalled. "We didn't expect this!"
Her successes earned Hit the Board Stables’ I’m Already Sexy a
coveted invitation from Rogers Beasley, Keeneland’s Vice President
of Racing, to run in the Grade I Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup
on October 12, 2013. She was on a roll, and hopes and spirits were
high. A huge class jump for the mare, she ran against much tougher
competition. Seventy members of her syndicate, with friends and
family, and about a thousand of her fans were there to cheer her on.
But I’m Already Sexy was among the ‘also-rans,‘ no win in this race.
However, the enthusiasm from her supporters lives on.
Considering the business aspect, Seitz had wisely entered I’m Al-
ready Sexy in the 2013 November sale at Fasig-Tipton, in case the syn-
dicate decided to sell her. Entries have to be submitted in August
to allow time for the catalogs to be printed, and it’s better to be in a
position of taking a horse out of the sale than to enter late and try to
sell without a catalog page. But she happily reported at press time,
“Nobody wanted to sell. We’re all having too much fun with her!”
I’m Already Sexy’s next outing will be the Mrs. Revere Stakes at
Churchill Downs in Louisville, a Grade II turf race for fillies with a
$175,000 purse. It will be one of the features in the popular ‘Downs
After Dark’ program on Saturday November 16, 2013. The runner-up
in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup, Centre Court, will likely go off as the
favorite, but only on paper. I’m Already Sexy’s owners, friends, and
fans are ready for the winners circle.
Anna Seitz scored an unexpected feel-good victory with her Hit
the Board Stables. The heart-pounding thrill of owning a racehorse
has the syndicate happily ensconced in the sport.

Just over two decades ago, the Fed-
eration Equestrian International (FEI) changed
the face of equestrian sport when they introduced
a new international event called the World Eques-
trian Games. Starting in Stockholm, Sweden in
1990, and occurring every four years thereafter,
the Games have merged the world’s best eques-
trian duos hailing from over 60 countries spe-
cializing in Olympic disciplines and more. While
this intense competition has traveled throughout
Europe, including the Netherlands, Italy, Spain,
Germany and most recently crossing the pond
to Lexington, Kentucky in 2010, the Games had
not yet landed in France. Not until now. Join the
world’s best in spectacular Normandy France at
the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games from
August 23 to September 7, 2014.
Normandy, which has long been synonymous
with World War II, will now have an opportunity
to show the world something aside from D-Day
– their immense passion for horses. The equine
industry comprises a large sector of the Nor-
man economy. In fact, equestrian events
rank third among the Olympic sports
in France, behind football and tennis.
Throughout the year the fabulous French
hold more equestrian competitions than
any other European country, and are
known to host some of the most spectac-
ular horse shows in the world, including
the upcoming Gucci Masters in Paris. For
these reasons and more, this is certain
to be one of the finest World Equestrian
Games since the event’s inception.
The Games in Normandy cele-
brate horses and riders competing
in eight disciplines of equestrian
sport: Show Jumping, the area’s
most popular discipline; Event-
ing, known as the “equestrian tri-
athlon”; Dressage, in which horses
perform a graceful dance-like pat-
tern of movements; Driving, wherein teams of four
horses compete in three phases of competition;
Endurance, a 100 mile /160 KM race over difficult
terrain; Vaulting, in which individuals or teams
perform a series of acrobatic movements on a
horse’s back while it is in motion; Reining, the only
western riding discipline at the Games; and Para-
dressage, wherein disabled riders compete in dres-
sage competition; as well as exhibition matches in
Polo and Horse Ball.
During this magical time in late August and early
September, the surrounding towns are planning
concerts and cultural events to encourage guests
to enjoy the wonders of their idyllic province.
Do take the time to enjoy other treasures of this
magical French province. Located opposite Eng-
land along the English Channel, Normandy is
home to majestic granite coastlines and centuries
of history. Experience architecture inspired by dif-
ferent periods of history dating as far back as the
eleventh century, including castles and cathedrals.
And of course, French gastronomy is second to
none, and a great source of national pride. There
are shops and museums galore, and if visitors run
out of delights in Normandy, it’s a short train ride
to Paris or London for the day.
The 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games
will be a unique opportunity to witness world-
class competition in a truly exquisite set-
ting. The word is out and accommoda-
tions are filling up quickly. Reserve your
place to be part of horse sport at its best
while enjoying the magnificent the fabu-
lous French countryside.
Full tour packages as well as tickets in
various price ranges are available for pur-
chase. See the Alltech FEI World Equestrian

The FerreTTi 870 is The improved
version of the popular 830 model of Fer-
retti Yachts, namely: a large yacht, now more
sporty, spacious, comfortable and luxurious.
The first change we can notice is on the
outside, which has been redesigned in col-
ored details over the bridge, lending it a more
modern and elegant aspect. The main deck
and the shell have been redesigned to let in
more light from the sideway windows.
From the moment you come in its spacious-
ness is evident, as the main room is designed
in an open layout, but now there is more natu-
ral light coming in and a new and fresh style.
The captain will feel great in the main cabin,
with its own dressing room and ample bath-
room, this large area is filled with fine details
that perfectly complement it: for instance, a
comfortable sofa and desk. The 870 also has
a couple of guest cabins with two large win-
dows for a lovely panoramic view. The use of
natural stained chestnut wood can be found
in many of the decoration details. Under the
cover, wool is combined with leather, which
has been used to decorate all the cabins.
The crew area is located in the stern, with
access from the pool. The engineer room is
well organized and the bridge is quite large.
The garage has a door that lower to form a
very large swimming platform.

Returning for its third year to Lexington, KY, the Alltech National Horse
Show was the place to be Oct. 29 - Nov. 3, 2013. The storied show has a
rich history, dating back to its Madison Square Garden days of fabulous
parties attended by the who’s who of the equestrian and social scene.
At the Taylor Harris Club VIP guests enjoyed gourmet cuisine and
drinks at ringside tables in a space handsomely decorated with antiques
andequestrian art.
Then at the conclusion of each show day, party guests would gather at
Gracie Street Garden, the vision of West Palm Beach interior designer, M.
Douglas Mutch. The talented Mutch made clever use of National Horse
Show memorabilia and photos throughout the space. She also worked
with Cross Gate Gallery, one of the finest sporting art galleries in the
country, and area antique retailers to transform Graacie Street into a gra-
cious and welcoming venue, ideal for socializing.
The historic National Horse Show has found a fabulous home in Lexing-
ton’s splendid Alltech Arena as seen by the tremendous turnout this year.

Keeneland’s fall race meeting, in Lexington, Kentucky, ran from October
4-26, 2013. The popular event enjoyed glorious weather and set records
in wagering, attendance, and quality of racing. This meeting, consistently
one of the richest in the country, boasts purses averaging $600,000 per
day, and attracts the nation’s leading owners, trainers, and jockeys.
Opening with the prestigious Fall Stars Weekend, which featured nine
graded stakes worth $3.15 million and showcased a number of Breeders’
Cup contenders, Keeneland carded several special days to reach out to
the community. Every Friday and Saturday during the meet, the official
tailgating lot was open and filled with race fans. Keeneland provided a
variety of food trucks, live music, a jumbo television to watch the racing
action, wireless wagering and wageringterminals, and “BETologists” to
assist the fans. Truly a fall-racing fabulous time for all in attendance.
Even on the occasional chilly or rainy day, the mood was buoyant and
the racing excellent -- all in all, a Keeneland race meeting for the record
books. keeneland.com

Blenheim EquiSports produced a show stopping event at the South Point
Equestrian Arena November 12-17, 2013. From sunup to sundown the
show arenas were bustling with competitors. In a unique show envi-
ronment, the South Point Hotel & Casino offers lodging, gambling, spa
services, restaurants, movie theaters, bowling and an equestrian center
all under one roof. Ideal for a fabulous horse show experience – not only
can you order room service from the barn aisle, you can watch the horse
show from your room!
Evenings were filled with fantastic classes and entertainment, from the
crazy-fun Barn Night to the elegance of aerial performers on Grand Prix
Night. The competition was fierce and exciting as some of the west
coast’s veterans as well as up and coming champions raced against the
clock. Each year the enthusiasm for this annual event increases and the
turnout was tremendous.
Saturday’s $50,000 Las Vegas Grand Prix, a World Cup qualifying event,
was electrifying. The clock struck midnight before the evening wrapped
up, as hundreds of fans lined up to get autographs from the long line-up
of show jumpers after the victory gallop. showpark.com
