SOCIAL WORKin

While working with social work students, we realized that most of them were weak in

English, especially in understanding terms used in social issues. Therefore, under the

sponsor of Ford Foundation and AmCham, we developed a pilot program to help

selected social work students from HCMC Open University, HCMC University of Social

Sciences and Humanities, and HCMC University of Labor and Social affairs to improve

their English and get used to English in social sciences, using excerpts from books on

social work, psychology, social problems, …

We do not wish to replace the curriculums used in their schools. Rather, we hope the

students can use this as a reference book that gradually makes them feel more confi-

dent reading books needed for their future career.
