The Eneida Massas Hartner Elementary School

School wide discipline plan is designed with the intent to:

• Inform parents of the discipline policies of the school.

• Encourage students to develop and maintain positive self-esteem.

• Encourage students to display appropriate behavior at all times, while in school.

• Motivate students to be successful learners.

• Reward students who consistently follow school rules and procedures

• A hard copy of the Code of Student Conduct can be obtained in the main office at the school

I am a proud Learning Lynx at Eneida M. Hartner Elementary

I come to school to learn and I will do everything I can to help myself and others learn.

I will show respect for others and myself.

I will take responsibility for my behavior and my work.

This will be a great day and it begins with me!!!!!!!!!!

Effective Reinforcement

Effective reinforcement of appropriate behavior will include:

• Immediate: students will be awarded with verbal praise and “Learning Lynx dollars”.

• Delayed: Students will be allowed to visit the Learning Lynx Store to redeem their Learning Lynx Dollars.

• Variable: Surprise events, raffles, and other special events sponsored by the principal

• Student of the Month

Guidelines

• The Learning Lynx School Wide Discipline Model is positive and proactive.

• Recognizes and awards positive behavior in all students.

• Is not separate from a classroom management system for discipline.

• Lynx Dollars may not be taken away from students once awarded.

• Only faculty and staff may award Lynx Dollars.

• Students are responsible for their tickets once they receive them.

• Students may not ask for Lynx dollars

Reinforcing Positive Behavior and Rewarding

Lynx Dollars

Students will be rewarded Lynx Dollars for the following:

• Following rules and regulations for all locations, including classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, media center and playground.

• Arriving to school on time

• Completing assignments

• Cooperating and showing respect towards peers and all adults in the school building.

Inappropriate Behaviors/Disruptions

The School-wide Discipline committee has identified certain behaviors that disrupt the teaching and learning process. These behaviors have been divided into two categories, minor and major.

Minor Offense: is considered any behavior that temporarily disrupts the learning environment without causing any emotional or physical damage to any person.

Major Offense

: is considered any behavior that temporarily disrupts the learning environment causing emotional or physical damage to any person.

Minor Offenses

Gum Chewing Throwing food Spitting Stealing (certain amounts/items) Name calling (offensive language) Disruptive/disrespectful behavior (other locations) Inappropriate dress (DCPS dress code for students) Profanity (cursing/vulgar language)

Destroying property/vandalism (based on damage and value of property)

Any other violation of the Code of Student Conduct

Major Offenses

Fighting/Bullying

Causing physical harm to self and/or others

Disruptive/disrespectful behavior (other locations)

Destroying property/vandalism (based on damage and value of property)

Stealing (certain amounts/items)

Leaving classroom without permission

Any other violation of the Code of Student Conduct

Responding to Inappropriate Behavior

Level I Intervention or Minor Offenses (Classroom Teacher)

• 1st Minor Offense – Warning/Parental contact

• 2nd Minor Offense - Teacher consequence/Parental contact

• 3rd Minor Offense – Teacher consequence/Parental contact/

student sent to a Buddy Teacher.

Level 2 Intervention (Administration)

• 4th Minor Offense – Teacher completes a Student Case Management (SCAM) form and student is sent to the school’s administration. Administration decides most appropriate consequence for the student’s inappropriate behavior as described in the Code of Student Conduct.

All major offenses
