ESTAR (to be) is used to describe temporary situations:location, physical conditions, emotions and the present progressive.

The present progressive tense is used with the helping verb estarand the present participle -ing

To use the present progressive tense in Spanish, follow the formula: Estar + infinitive verb = participle
