Page 14: El Present e Progresivo

1.) To form present progressive we start with

the verb <<estar>>.

Remember how to conjugate <<estar>>?

Page 15: El Present e Progresivo

estoy estamosestás estáisestá,están

The conjugated forms of the verb <<estar>> tells us who is doing the action.

Page 16: El Present e Progresivo

2.) To form the present progressive with <<–ar>>

verbs, we drop the <<-ar>> and add <<-ando>>

Hablar = Habl + ando =Hablando

Page 17: El Present e Progresivo

2.) To form the present participle with <<–er>> &

<<–ir>> verbs, we drop the <<–er>> & <<–ir>> and

add <<-iendo>>

Comer = comiendoEscribir = escribiendo

Page 18: El Present e Progresivo

Let’s practice the present participles (-ando, iendo)

1. Beber2. Tomar3. Comer4. Vivir5. Bailar

Page 19: El Present e Progresivo

1. bebiendo = drinking2. tomando = taking,

drinking3. comiendo = eating4. viviendo = living5. bailando = dancing

One way to express the –ing suffix in English is to use the present participle.

Page 20: El Present e Progresivo

So we put it with <<estar>> so we can tell who is doing

the action.

These <<-ando>> and <<-iendo>> words are called the present participle. The present participle can never

stand alone.

Page 21: El Present e Progresivo

To do this, first conjugate <<estar>>, then add the

correct <<-ando>> or <<-iendo>> to the action verb.

Estoy = I ambailando = dancing
