Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.

Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Children are our greatest treasure. We need to empower them with all the necessary skills so that they reach their full potential. Adolescence is a challenging and testing time

in the life of any individual. The physical, emotional, mental and social changes, strains as well as pressures are felt most during this period. Some evolve into strong

individuals while others succumb to the exposures and influences that might ruin their mental prowess. We are all aware and talk about the physical health of our children but

for long, mental health has been ignored. There is little awareness, as we either shy away from talking about it or do not consider it a problem at all. Good mental health can do

wonders for a child’s development and now the time has come to deal with these issues.

As parents and teachers, it is our responsibility to reach out to every child. This can only happen only if we are constantly communicating and conversing with them. No matter

how much they have grown, they need us. This should not be confused with interference. Our children are individuals in their own right; we need to let them grow in their

space freely. Stacia Tauscher has rightly said, “Strangely, we worry too much about what our children will become tomorrow, forgetting that they are someone today”. Times

are changing, our children are exposed to so much information that maturity sets in early. They are well- informed and self- opinionated. We must give them a fair hearing.

School days are not only about securing good grades but also about a plethora of experiences that the curriculum exposes a child to. We have structured our curriculum in such

a way that we prepare students to be independent individuals. We train our students in skills of safety, hygiene, cookery, music, dance, theatre, art, craft, automotive, money

management, etc. If students can pick up these skills along with the ability to communicate, assert, think critically and problem solve, then they would be better equipped to

face any challenge that comes their way. Of course, the role of sports, games, hobbies and interests cannot be marginalized for the all- round development of students.

We provide enough opportunities in these areas too.

There is an urgent need to make our students aware about the environment, its conservation as well protection from environmental hazards. We need to train our children to

keep themselves safe from the polluted air. The basic step should be to wear masks. We keep reiterating this, in the school but parents need to impress upon this fact at home

also.Another threat is from mosquitoes especially the life-threatening dengue fever. Though we ensure regular fumigation in school, children must be equipped against

mosquito bites with mosquito repellents and patches.

Next year, by God’s grace we will celebrate our Silver Jubilee, marking the completion of 25 fruitful years of relentless endeavours. We have come a long way. Each year we

strive to instil good values and life skills in our students without which no academic achievement can be recognized. With this vision, St. Mary’s School, Dwarka will continue

to develop its students into becoming an effective contributing workforce in times to come.
