Lately it seems like my

social calendar has been packed full. I look forward

to going to each and every event. I like getting dressed up and get excited to see what

the evening will bring. I have the confidence of going out because I have my husband as a date but speaking from a girl who was single a very long time before I met my husband and as someone who has reached a milestone in the aging department I am not sure I would be attending the after parties at the local bar without a date.

So here is what I am wondering and so I have a question for all of you. We all know that as we get older it is increasingly more difficult for men and women to meet and connect. When we were younger it was so much easier to go out and meet someone

you could possibly like. You would go out see someone who interested you, you would meet, you would hang out and then eventually you would hook up. It was fun and easy and there were no expectations.

As we get older we start developing all this baggage that we carry around with us constantly. That baggage is a barrier that makes it difficult for others to break through and get close to us. When we do manage to get into a relationship we have so many expectations now then we did before and frankly for me I have way more concerns. I always wonder who their friends are and how much their involvement is going to be. What is their family situation? And what is their reputation? Are they know as a bar fly, a player or are they known as a good upstanding gentlemen.

With all that said, when you spot someone that you want to get to know how do you make that happen? For the ladies, do you sit back and wait for the guy to come to you? Do you send a drink his way? Do you walk up to him and start a conversation? If you do approach a guy what do you say as an opener? Do you flash confidence or do you flash your “girly” assests? Men, do you approach the lady or do you wait for her to come to you? What is your opening line to get to know her? Do you try to come off cocky or sweet?

It was not to long ago when it was me out there hanging out with a hope to find that someone special but even when it was me I still had no clue as to how this whole connecting thing worked. It can be very scary tyring to approach someone out of the blue because you have no idea what this person will say or do and no one wants to get embarrassed or have their feelings hurt.

So tell me, what do you do when wanting to get to know someone? You can tell me, it'll be just between you and me. And as for me and how I picked up my husband it is no secret that I just walked up to him and said 'you are going to be mine' and draged him away by his hair. (Well thats how he tells the story.) Hey that might be the perfect technique for someone...try it and let me know..

CELEBRATE RECYCLING THIS EARTH DAY 2011None of us are born environmentalists. But as we grow we realize how important the environment is to everyone. We come to understand the importance these global issues have on our sustainable living. We all love our planet and want to leave it a better place for our children. One of the easiest ways to celebrate this Earth Day 2011 this year is to start by recycling year round and showing children by our examples. Why celebrate recycling? Because it is one of the few things we can do that contributes measurably to our planets health on a daily basis. It is a habit that we can all do to contribute to the bigger picture. It has intrinsic value and it is also a symbolic act. People feel good when they recycle, particularly at events. And that goodness is contagious. Our job is to make recycling available everywhere so people can make a difference, day in and day out. There is a lot of room for improvement. What is the state of recycling in the country? The facts are that public space recycling is only available at 12% of locations in the United States. There is a lot of room for improvement at larger events and venues where crowds are big. If you’re an organizer be sure to use clear Recycling Containers instead of opaque ones. They are proven to gather over 50% more material than non-clear ones do.The United States is one of the largest producers of trash, yet we only recycle about 31% of our waste. Recycling is a habit that we can all develop to a make positive impact on our environment every day. When you recycle, every day can be like Earth Day 2011.

Earth Day 2011 – Celebrate Earth Day Everyday

Celebrate Earth Day Every Day 2011

“In every deliberation, we must consider the impact on the seventh generation…”

Page 9: Edge Monthly April issue

Here are some goals for EARTH DAY 2011 with recycling:• Create more Jobs • Visibly Cleaner Events • Respect for the Land • Conservation of Non-renewable Resources • Education: It takes a village to raise a generation • Curbside Diversion from Landfills • Leadership and Mentoring Opportunities • Environmental Stewardship • Buy Recycled or post consumer or recycled content • Purchase Recycled Products • Pledge to A Billion Acts of Green Not all rewards are economic. It is important that recycling “closes the loop”. However, the most important benefits of recycling are not quantifiable. Millions of people are passionate about recycling because they recognize it as the voice of the future.

The real cost of not recycling today is a waste of spirit, material, and the value of the next generation. When you take a look at the rest of the world now, or fast forward into our future, recycling is inevitable and sustainable.Become an OrganizerSetup a booth or table at an Earth Day event in your town. You can use a Clear Recycling Container and have it sponsored, to help raise money for your green cause by using a Recycling Hero. This is a great place for you and your Sponsors to do a great job of recycling plastic bottles and cans during the event. Set it and forget it… the container itself is the message. Most see things the way they are. This Earth Day, come out and see the way things can be in your community and your life. Get Involved.Who speaks for recycling? You do.

Recycling is our legacy.

WEDNESDAY APRIL 27 - THURSDAY MAY 5

Page 16: Edge Monthly April issue

Everything's more fun when it's on fire - especially alcohol. So light up and impress all your friends at your next summer BBQ.

Looking for a way to take your drink-making skills to the next level? Turn up the heat on your cocktail crafting with our guide to lighting drinks on fire. There are several good ways to bring flame into your bartending. We'll begin with the whys, and then move on to the hows -- including tips to do this safely. Oh, and for you ambitious fellas who stop reading before the safety tips: Use your head, we're setting things on fire here. Search YouTube for “Flaming Shot” if you don't believe us. If you're drunk, or the person you're making the drink for is drunk, you should keep the flames away. Call a cab, sir, and try again next time.

Why set a drink on fireThere are several good reasons to set a drink on fire.

Flavor: Burning alcohol will lower the liquid content of the drink, condensing the flavors to make the drink's taste richer and deeper. In the recipe for a Flaming Doctor Pepper discussed below, the burning caramelizes the taste of the amaretto, and gives the drink its signature flavor.

Warmth: Setting things on fire makes them warmer, right? If you're drinking the flaming liquid on its own and not mixing it into a larger drink, lighting it is a good way to heat your drink up. When served as

an after-dinner drink, Italians often light their snifters of Sambuca for a few seconds. In addition to enriching the flavor, as discussed above, the warmth of the drink makes for the perfect finale to your Carbonara-eating extravaganza. Just blow the flames out before the drink gets so hot you burn yourself.

Presentation: This is the big one. Most drinks you light on fire involve lighting only one component of a larger mixed drink, so the flavor and warmth aren't a big factor. The lighting of the drink is pure showmanship. Humans are drawn to flames -- fire is exciting and can really start the party. Done the right way, a flaming drink can also be very romantic. You can even invest in a classic Tiki-style volcano bowl. These large bowls hold a drink big enough to share, and the little ceramic volcano in the middle can be filled with booze and lit on fire. You then share your drink while enjoying the glow of the volcano. Remember to use straws.

How to set a drink on fireAlcohol itself is flammable, so any alcoholic beverage will burn provided the alcohol content is high enough. The basic rule of thumb is anything 80 proof or above will light, and the higher the proof, the easier the alcohol will be to ignite. The 80-proof rule means all your basic liquors will light: tequila, rum, whiskey, vodka, please step forward. There are spirits below the 80-proof rule that will light, but factors like sugar content and the like will play important roles. Feel free to experiment with low-proof liquors using the method outlined here, but for this article we'll stick with liquors 8

How (And Why) To Set Drinks On Fire

Page 17: Edge Monthly April issue

The Flaming Floater

High-proof spirits like overproof rum (think Bacardi 151), and some of the more potent liqueurs (Chartreuse), will light at room temperature. We will float one of these high-alcohol liquors on top of a standard drink.

• Because a higher-proof alcohol will float on a lower proof alcohol, you can “top” practically any drink with a 151 floater. As long as the proof of the floater is higher than that of the drink, it will float if you pour it gently enough. • To prevent the 151 from mixing into the drink, you need to pour it slowly and gently across the top of the drink -- try pouring it across the back of a spoon that's touching the side of the glass. • It should trickle slowly down the side of the glass and settle in a layer over the drink. • Before you light the drink, remove any alcohol you don't want to catch fire from the area. Put the 151 bottle back in the cupboard so you don't knock it over, and if you spilled on the counter, wipe it up. • Apply a flame to the rum. We recommend a long lighter like those used for a barbecue or candles. If you insist on using a regular lighter, keep your hands away from the flame: in pouring the drink you might have accidentally spilled 151 on your hands. •Alcohol burns with a light blue flame. It's easier to see the flame in a dark room than a well-lit one. Just because you don't see the flame immediately doesn't mean it's not lit. Turn

the lights down if you need to. • Although the drink itself won't light, the 151 will go up easily, and you can enjoy presenting your friends with their favorite mixed drink, only a little bit classier, a little bit snazzier and a whole lot more on-fire-y.

We've got a few more ideas on how and why to set a drink on fire at your next party...

Set Drinks On FireFlaming Doctor Pepper

This drink tastes exactly like a popular soda. Our lawyers say you have to guess which one.

Ingredients:Beer -- an amber beer like Yuengling works best, but any will doAmarettoOverproof rumPint glassShot glass

• Fill a pint glass 1/2-3/4 full of beer; • Fill a shot glass ¾ full with amaretto;

• Float ¼ rum over the top of the amaretto; • Light rum, allow it to burn for several seconds; • Drop flaming shot into the beer, chug contents; • You can also blow the shot out prior to dropping in the beer.

Page 18: Edge Monthly April issue

The Flaming Shot

Most drink recipes use regular proof alcohols. Whereas 151 and its brethren will light at room temperature, regular proof spirits need to be warmed to a bit above room temperature. To do so, start with a small quantity of alcohol -- a shot glass.

• If you just want a plain old shot of liquor to light on fire, you can hold a lighter to it for several seconds. • The flame will heat the shot up, and it will eventually light. This is the easiest way to light a shot on fire. • To light a shot more quickly, fill the shot glass nearly full and pour the last bit into a spoon. Light the liquor in the spoon and then pour it onto the rest of the shot. This will heat the liquor much faster. • Blow the shot out before you shoot it. We know your mom taught you this already, but don't put anything in your mouth that is on fire. Don't underfill the drink -- the heat on the glass could crack the glass. Don't fill the drinks all the way to the rim, either; you need to blow the shot out, not have flaming booze splash out of the glass and onto the counter. A party foul, and potential arson? Steer clear.

The Flaming B-52

This shot is named for the U.S. bomber plane, not the pop group, but bonus points are awarded if “Love Shack” is playing in the background. B-52 bombers were used in the Vietnam War to firebomb the jungle, hence its use as the name of a flaming shot.

Ingredients:1/3 shot Kahlua1/3 shot Baileys1/3 shot Grand Marnier

• Pour the Kahlua into the shot glass; • Carefully layer on the Baileys; • Carefully layer on the Grand Marnier; • Light the Grand Marnier and let it burn for a few seconds; • Extinguish the flame and drink.

The Backdraft

This over-the-top drink has a very elaborate presentation, but the payoff is worth it. On top of the flames, the drink actually produces a backdraft effect, sucking alcohol into the glass. So you can brush up on your physics, all while getting your friends good and drunk -- this drink hits hard.

• Place a shot glass of Sambuca in the middle of a saucer on a counter. • Fill a pint glass with a few drops of Cointreau, swirl the Cointreau until the inside of the pint glass is coated. • Light the Cointreau and let it burn until pint glass is warm to the touch. • Pour flaming Cointreau into a shot glass, igniting the Sambuca. Don't worry if you spill some on the saucer, it's there to keep flaming alcohol off your countertop. • Hold a cinnamon shaker over the top and shake several bits of cinnamon onto the Sambuca, holding the pint glass upside-down over the flame to collect the heat and the alcohol vapor. • Set the pint glass down upside down over the shot, extinguishing the flames. If there's any flaming alcohol on the saucer blow it out now. • The heat from the shot will pull any spilled liquid from the saucer back under the pint glass. Science! • Pick up the pint glass and cover the top with your palm. If your friend is feeling suicidal, he can stick a straw between your fingers and “sip” the alcohol fumes, then take the shot. Huffing alcohol fumes is a personal decision, but we don't recommend it. Just the shot will do.

Flame on

By following the steps outlined above, and paying attention to the safety rules laid out, you too can master the flaming drink. Try a little practice before your next party. Then surprise everyone when you get behind the bar, and calmly announce to the party it's time to start lighting some drinks on fire.

Noah Lennox feels compelled to consider his audience now. He blames 2007 for that. Lennox had been recording solo under the name Panda Bear for the better part of a decade, releasing a pair of records along the way in what he considers a somewhat blithe obscurity. Selling records is what he did with his band, Animal Collective. For his solo work, he says, "I never really had to think about it."

To that point, Panda Bear was pure creation. In 2004, as his father lay dying, Lennox began writing songs to tell him what a good job he had done. Lennox was able to play some rough tracks for his father before he died, then Lennox recorded the final tracks in the room where he passed. The resultant album was "Young Prayer."

"Person Pitch," the album that would change things entirely, was a personal record as well. Lennox had moved to Lisbon, Portugal, in 2005, gotten married and had a child. Along the way, he composed a series of breezy odes to the brightness of his adoptive home, drifting from folkier inclinations to looping minimalist beats, angel's choir harmonies and samples of Cat Stevens, Kraftwerk and the landmark dystopian anime "Akira." The album felt light and windswept, despite a second single that exceeded 12 minutes. "Person Pitch" sold 3,000 first-week copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, then sold 71,000 more.

Lennox's personal recordings were suddenly competing with his band's. The sales for "Person Pitch" (74,000 units) came within striking distance of Animal Collective's 2007 album "Strawberry Jam" (77,500). In terms of critical reception, "Pitch" beat "Strawberry Jam" in a handful of tastemaking best-of lists, claiming the top spot in Pitchfork's Top 50 Albums of 2007. ("Jam" landed sixth.) Animal Collective's 2009 follow-up, "Merriweather Post Pavilion," sold 182,000 copies.

Lennox says he struggled to come to terms with how "Person Pitch" made a decidedly personal project public. Todd Hyman, president of Paw Tracks, the label he started with Animal Collective in 2002, has seen it too. "There's a tremendous amount of pressure on [Lennox]," Hyman says. "He's the kind of person who always keeps pushing himself. Not just to do the same thing, even though a lot of people were interested in hearing the same thing."

In September 2009, when the clamor over Animal Collective had died down and touring was finished, Lennox returned to Lisbon and took up residence in a studio two stories below ground. As the record was created he was mindful, for the first time, that people were intensely interested in his solo

work. He says, "At this point there are two narratives: how people might receive the thing and my own personal feelings." On the phone from Baltimore, Lennox pauses, then continues, "I have total control over one and absolutely no control over the other."

For the benefit of his family, Lennox had pledged to keep regular (daytime) work hours, but ended up composing and recording "Tomboy," his fourth solo album due April 19, by the light of a single small lamp. Perhaps because of that, Lennox says, "there's this nighttime-during-the-day kind of feel to it."

Lennox has always been considered the brighter spirit among the dervishes of Animal Collective. "Tomboy," though, is his most serious work. Press on the title track lead single has been overwhelmingly positive, and the song appeared on many 2010 best-of lists.

It's clear the label is expecting sales of "Tomboy" to rival those of "Merriweather Post Pavilion," the same way "Person Pitch" matched "Strawberry Jam." Hyman says Paw Tracks is shipping 15,000-20,000 units in the United States. "It would be awesome if we could do that much in SoundScan sales the first week," he says. That's where comparisons to previous work should end, however. "Tomboy" doesn't have a corollary to "Bros.," the jangly, bright, 12-minute ode to endless summer from "Person Pitch." The closest it gets is "Surfer's Hymn," which takes the long horizon line between sea and sky and makes it a post-dark gradient of blue to black.

"Somebody told me they thought 'Person Pitch' was an album you share with people and 'Tomboy' is something you only want to hear when you're by yourself," Lennox says. "That rang true for me." "It was important [to me] that it came from a place that I'd never gone before and didn't have a firm grasp of," Lennox says. "Uncharted territory, I guess."

Death Cab For Cutie's upcoming seventh studio album, "Codes and Keys," has been touted as a keyboard-heavy departure from 2008's guitar-driven "Narrow Stairs" -- an experimental thread the band will continue on the album's first video, "You Are A Tourist."

As announced today, DCFC will film -- and simultaneously air -- a live, scripted, one-take music video for "You Are A Tourist." Directed by Tim Nackashi (Radiohead, OK Go), the clip will be broadcast live via YouAreATourist.com on Apr. 5 at 7 p.m. EST.

The video announcement is a quick turnaround, as "You Are A Tourist" premiered just yesterday (Mar. 28) on Seattle radio station 107.7 The End. Listen the song -- the first single off "Codes and Keys" -- below.

Death Cab For Cutie bassist Nick Harmer revealed to Billboard.com earlier this year that "Codes and Keys," out May 31 on Atlantic Records, features a lot of "great, weird, analog synths, and we have a string section on a couple songs."

The guitar-driven, pop-tinged "You Are A Tourist" may not exactly exemplify the album's experimention, but it seems in line with lyrical content that Harmer called "topical and very mature." Frontman Ben Gibbard may be addressing his recent move from Seattle to Los Angeles as he sings, "If you feel just like a tourist in the city you were born, it's time to go."

Twenty years after breaking into the mainstream with their self-titled debut album, hip-hop group Naughty by Nature will celebrate their two decade milestone by releasing their forthcoming album, "Anthem Inc," this May.

"With 'Anthem Inc' we will be doing some re-recordings as well as some brand new music," group member Vin Rock tells Billboard.com's The Juice about what fans can expect on the new set. "You'll be able to get some of Naughty 'then' and some of Naughty 'now.'"

"Anthem Inc" comes nine years after Naughty by Nature's last album, "IIcons," and frontman Treach says there's a logical reason for the delay. "It was politics," he says flatly, "We weren't planning on releasing an album until we had the right deal. We found out the right deal would only be for us to go independent which we are."

Naughty recently released a promo single from "Anthem Inc" titled "Flags," which they recently performed on the David Letterman show. The group also premiered two versions of an accompanying music video, one titled "Life Cut" and the other "Death Cut;" the former features an appearance by Ice T.

With their comeback album, Naughty by Nature hopes to deliver music with a message and give those that may not be as familiar with them a fresh introduction. "One thing we think is missing in the game now is that artists are just out there rhyming. There's no more content to records," says Vin Rock.

"Our whole thing is we've been seeing the game change like every five years for the past twenty years," adds Treach. "Even though when we were pushed to the side and seen as an older group and like our time was up, we changed the game and did other things. When you lay certain blueprints, it's like you never lose that sheet. You can always go back there and re-establish yourself, re-invent yourself. We've never been afraid to do either."

Naughty by Nature is currently on tour with Salt-n-Pepa on their "Legends of Hip-Hop" tour, alongside Doug E. Fresh, Kurtis Blow and Kool Moe Dee.
