GUIDELINES FOR THE PARENTS
Summer Vacations are here. A few vital suggestions are listed below to make the vacations more
exciting and fruitful than ever before: ’
1. “Knowledge is Power” Therefore encourage your child to cultivate the reading habit
because it not only enhances the knowledge acquired but also develops the vocabulary,
language skills and improves spellings. And also read to your child because it builds
reading skills and increases his/her attention span.
Encourage your child to read children’s magazines like MagicPot, Chandamama, Champak etc.
2. “A healthy mind lives in a healthy body” Encourage your child to go out and play because
sports instil discipline, generate sporting spirits, channelize energies constructively. Encourage
your child to play board games e.g. Chess, Ludo, Carrom etc.
3. Communication skills play a pivotal role in grooming the overall
personality of the child.
4. Inculcate good manners, healthy habits, respect for others and
animals. This will nurture EQ and the child will grow into a sensitive
, emotionally and socially well adjusted adult.
5.Assign a permanent workplace and a work time to your child. This cultivates self discipline
and focus.
6. Have at least two meals together with your child/ children at the
dining table and not in front of TV.
7. Children these days think vegetables
and groceries originate from supermarkets
/ stores; milk from vending machines.
Create a story and tell them how hundreds of people work hard to
provide meals for everyone. Let the child understand the
importance of agriculture and hard work of farmers. You can
add the importance of rain, sunshine etc for good crop growth and weave in the need for more
trees/ greenery. Likewise, tell them how milk is obtained.
8. Let the child put away his/her plate and glass meal after the meal. If possible, Show them how
to rinse. This teaches them the dignity of labour and starts
inculcating essential life skills.
9. Expose them to devotional , folk songs and rhymes. Children
these days seem to know only film songs.
10. As far as possible, keep them away from TV and electronic
gadgets. They have their whole life for that.
11. While malls, restaurants and movies are
part of urban life, DO make the effort to take the child to the zoo, parks,
secience museum, rail and / or air force museum, Nehru planetarium, Museum of National History etc. These kinds of outings arouse
curiosity and ignite young minds.
