EDITORIAL BY THE SECRETARY GENERALEAAP, as the animal scientists’ network of Europe, have created a highly

professional team to serve this network as disseminators because international

projects require increasing levels of efficiency and competency. In EAAP we

have always worked as a team, both as coordinators and, more often in recent

years, for taking care of dissemination. We have now grown in size and have

obviously had to learn even more how to work as a team; we very soon learnt

that “teams don’t work well without teamwork!” Teamwork is important for the

success of all businesses. Working in a team brings new ideas. Businesses require

new, fresh ideas to succeed in the competitive world of research activities.

Businesses thrive when they have a diverse team of people who can contribute

with individual ideas. After many years of working to support the EU we have

learnt that having a diverse team underpins our projects using EAAP human

resources. We have improved our efforts by creating a multidisciplinary team

of competent people, everyone able to perform a certain task: managers,

animal scientists, IT specialists, graphic and communication experts, skilled

administrators, because we believe that only teamwork helps solve problems.

We offer longstanding expertise as disseminators of international projects,

including, of course, EU supported ones. But ASSET, EAAP’s in-house consultancy

group, is also specialized to organize industry workshops. When work is divided

up among members of a team, it gets done faster, making the overall business

operate more efficiently. Each team member has specific expertise to offer.

Collaboration within a group can help solve difficult problems. By working

together, teams can find the solutions that work the best. For this reason EAAP

has created a team with its own permanent personnel and consultants. We

have put together a unique team supporting animal science dissemination and

we have named it ASSET. To contact ASSET, simply write to the EAAP Secretariat

ISEP 2019 will be organized by the international scientific committee of EAAP commission on Animal Nutrition, headed by Giovanni Savoini, and the Brazilian local organizing committee, Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV), under the support of Brazilian Industry and Government Agencies (contact person Prof. Mario L. Chizzotti). For more information, please visit ISEP 2019 website. See you in Brazil!

EAAP Stand at Dubrovnik Annual Meeting

For the first time EAAP will have a stand at the annual meeting. It was decided to have a stand in Dubrovnik because we all want that your animal science organization will be closer to all participants to collect your views, comments, information and to inform you about the services and opportunities that we specifically tailored for

animal scientists. Therefore visiting the stand you will find EAAP personnel who will listen to you and also informing about next annual meetings, job offers, opportunities, symposia, international projects, etc. Please visit the EAAP stand and make complete your EAAP annual meeting experience. EAAP personnel are waiting for you to stop by!

EAAP is looking for a motivated person to interact with industriess

EAAP is constantly strengthening the cooperation with industries on several levels. Therefore, we are looking for motivated persons to broaden the staff dedicated to interacting with industries for:1. Increasing the cooperation between industries and EAAP and animal scientists, 2. Supporting the inclusion of industries in EU supported projects,

3. Organizing Academy Workshops (organized jointly by EAAP and a dedicated industry),

4. Sponsoring activities and much more.

The endeavours are paid accordingly with the obtained results. If you are interested please send an email to [email protected], more details will be given. If you are not directly interested but you know someone who could be, please show him/her this offer.

master’s degree in animal breeding and genetics, later she continued to work in this area with focus on genetic analysis. She moved to Vienna and studied for a PhD on genetic analysis for different livestock animals. After obtaining the PhD in 2013 she began to work in Croatian Agricultural Agency in Zagreb mainly in evaluation of pig breeding values, genomic evaluation of breeding values in cattle and other similar disciplines. Anamarija lives happily in Stankovo near Zagreb with her husband Velimir and family. In 2016 she got a very lovable, important, responsible and demanding task, to be a mother of twin boys, Adam and Maksim. In her free time, which is nowadays rare, she likes to spend time sailing on Adriatic coast, horse-riding, reading, painting and most of all cooking and baking. Anamarija participated often at EAAP annual meeting, the first time being in 2001 in Stavanger (Norway).

Green revolution’ crops bred to slash fertilizer use

Researchers have identified a molecule that increases plant growth while reducing the need for nitrogen. A gene that enhances plants’ ability to absorb nitrogen could be used to breed high-yield varieties of rice, wheat and other staple crops that would need less fertilizer, researchers report on 15 August in Nature1. That could slash costs for farmers
