` is Newsletter 11/2017 4 May 2017 Dear Parents, Guardians and Learners Have you ever really thought about how amazing the human brain is? The brain is not simply used to think, but also to analyse, to control movement and it determines how we react in different situations. The most wonderful thing about the brain is that it influences who and what we are. Our thoughts determine what we do, how we react and whether we are successful or not. Bearing this in mind, I would like to share a few thoughts on the power of positive thinking. When you think and talk about what you want and how to get it, you feel happier and in greater control of your life. When you think about something that makes you happy, your brain actually releases endorphins, which gives you a general feeling of well-being. As a result, you develop a positive attitude. Optimists seek the valuable lesson in every setback or reversal. Rather than getting upset and blaming someone else for what has happened, they take control of their emotions by saying, “what can I learn from this experience?” Start to see your glass of life as half-full rather than half-empty. Happy people give thanks for the many blessings in life rather than worrying or complaining about the things they do not have. Assume the best of intentions on the part of everyone around you. Most people are pretty decent and honest and are trying to do the very best they know how to. When you look for something good in their words and actions, you will almost always find something. Finally, choose to be cheerful, no matter what happens. Yours sincerely J PELZER HOD: AFRIKAANS Don’t miss out! Book your seats from Monday. Please see page 2 for details…

NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

New School Governing Body Appointments

At last week’s SGB meeting, Joe Viede was appointed as the new Chairman and Clinton Houston as the Vice-Chairman of the SGB, with immediate effect. This follows Dominic Podmore’s confirmation that he has been offered an outstanding opportunity to relocate to the UK for employment purposes. Mr Viede brings with him a wealth of experience as former Chairman of Randpark Primary’s SGB. He has also been an active member of the Finance Committee at Rand Park High and ably assisted Mr Podmore as Vice-Chair of our SGB. We welcome Mr Viede and Mr Houston in their new roles and thank them for their willingness to serve the school in these positions. We also wish Mr Podmore continued success with his transfer to the UK and thank him for his invaluable contribution to Rand Park High School.

Tickets for our much-anticipated Major Production go on sale from Monday, 8 May.

Only R50 per person.

Learners may purchase tickets outside the Grade 9 Tutor Office during break from Monday next week.

Parents/visitors/other guests who wish to buy tickets directly from the school may contact Mrs Trudi Lingens using the following email address: [email protected].

Payments made directly into Rand Park High School’s bank account must be done using the reference “Cheri Cherie”. Send your proof of payment (POP) to Mrs Lingens via email and collect your tickets at the door on the evening of the performance. Unfortunately we will not allocate tickets without receipt of the POP.

NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Please donate to our Feeding Scheme for RPHS learners

Rand Park’s Feeding Scheme offers one meal per day to learners who need a little extra support. The assistance provided is offered discreetly and confidentially.

Due to financial pressure being placed on some of our families, we have identified several learners who require assistance this year. We appeal to you to help us with a monetary donation to help supplement the costs borne by the school.

Any amount – large or small – will be very welcome.

If you are willing to donate, please contact Heather Robinson ([email protected]) or Lana Kleingeld ([email protected]) for details.
