CARE OF THE SICK - Please inform us when a parishioner is confined at home, admitted to a nursing home or a hospital. CUIDADO DE LOS ENFERMOS - Por favor infórmenos si conoce de algún feligrés incapacitado(a) en su casa, hospitalizado o en un asilo de ancianos.

BAPTISM - (English) The process for infant baptism and children under 7 years old is as follows: Parent(s) call the office to request an appointment. In that appointment the whole process will be explained. Godparents must be practicing Catholics, be over 16 years of age, and have the Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation and live their lives according to the teachings of Christ and His Church. Godparents can be single. If the person has a partner, he/she must be married by the Church. Free union or civil marriage is not enough. Proof of Confirmation and Marriage by the Church. The godparents must bring their Confirmation, and Church Marriage certificate (if they are married). When all relevant documents are received the dates will be given to attend the Baptismal Parent Class, the Presentation in the Church, the class for parents and godparents and the date of the baptism.

BAUTISMO - (Español) El proceso para el bautismo de infantes y niños menores de siete años es el siguiente: Los padres llaman a la oficina para solicitar una cita. En esa cita se explicará todo el proceso. Los padrinos deben ser católicos practicantes, tener más de 16 años y tener los Sacramentos del Bautismo, la Primera Comunión y la Confirmación, y vivir sus vidas de acuerdo con las enseñanzas de Cristo y su Iglesia. Los padrinos pueden ser solteros. Si la persona tiene pareja, debe estar casado(a) por la Iglesia. La unión libre o el matrimonio civil no es suficiente. Change in Mass Schedule

Beginning this month, September, we will

no longer have the simultaneous Sunday

Mass at 8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the

Gym. All Masses will be celebrated in the

Church. To make room inside the Church we will

remove the ropes that block the pews. People may sit

in any of the pews in the Church. The individual

chairs will still be left on the side and back of the

church in case someone wants to maintain social

distancing.

Cambio en el Horario de Misas

A partir de este mes de septiembre, ya no tendremos

la Misa Dominical simultánea a las 8:00 a.m. y a las

12:30 p.m. en el gimnasio. Todas las Misas se

celebrarán en la Iglesia. Para hacer espacio dentro de

la Iglesia quitaremos las sogas que bloquean los

bancos. La gente puede sentarse en cualquiera de los

bancos de la Iglesia. Las sillas individuales aún se

dejarán en el costado y en la parte de atras de la

iglesia en caso de que alguien quiera mantener un

distanciamiento social.

En estas catequesis hablaremos de la fe en Dios, de la Buena Noticia del cristianismo, del perdón de Dios en la vida de pareja, del matrimonio en las Escrituras, de la sexualidad conyugal, de la paternidad responsable, de la educación de los hijos, de la misión de la familia cristiana en la sociedad, etc. Este curso está diseñado para ayudar a las parejas de novios, a los que conviven pero aún no están casados por la Iglesia, y a los que ya están casados pero desean renovar su relación. ¡Vengan y escuchen!

The Virgen of Cisne A devotion in honor of Mary

of the Ecuadorian community

The origin of this devotion dates to 1594 when a drought and plague threatened the people of El Cisne with a famine. The Indians had decided to emigrate in search of a better land when an apparition of the Virgin changed their minds. A young native woman herding sheep to pasture met "with a most lovely Lady crowned with fragrant roses" who stayed with her, conversing about God while the flock grazed. "Confide in me, because I am going to help and protect you so you will never be hungry again.”

The inhabitants of El Cisne region had wanted their own Virgin Mary shrine similar to the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico City. Representatives of the City in 1594 requested sculptor Don Diego de Robles to build the Virgin de El Cisne statue which he did from the wood of a cedar tree.

This devotion is so important to the many Ecuadorians who have emigrated to other lands. ‘She (Mary) came looking for her absent children, because many of us cannot return to our countries, she finds us and protects us.’ Saturday, September 4th, 6:30 p.m. Mass - The Virgin of Cisne followed by celebration in the gym.

La Virgen de Cisne Una devoción en honor a María

de la comunidad Ecuatoriana

El origen de esta devoción data de 1594 cuando una sequía y una plaga amenazaron al pueblo de El Cisne con una hambruna. Los indios habían decidido emigrar en busca de una tierra mejor cuando, por una aparición de la Virgen, cambiaron de opinión. Una joven nativa que pastoreaba ovejas se encontró con "una Señora muy adorable coronada con rosas fragantes" que se quedó con ella

conversando acerca de Dios mientras el rebaño pastoreaba. "Confía en mí, porque te ayudaré y protegeré para que nunca más vuelvas a tener hambre.”

Los habitantes de la región de El Cisne querían su propio santuario a la Virgen María, similar a la de la Virgen de Guadalupe en México. Los representantes de la Ciudad en 1594 pidieron al escultor Don Diego de Robles que construyera la estatua de la Virgen de El Cisne, que hizo con la madera de un árbol de cedro.

Esta devoción es tan importante para los muchos Ecuatorianos que han emigrado a otras tierras. "Ella (María) vino a buscar a sus hijos ausentes, porque muchos de nosotros no podemos regresar a nuestros países, ella nos encuentra y nos protege".
