Dear friends,
we need the leadership and the courage to take difficult
decisions. The modern and complex democracy in Europe means we have
to demand that our political system is capable of taking the difficult decisions
and be efficient enough to provide the desired leadership. In the midst of the
financial crisis, where many European countries are facing an accelerated
decline in economy and even state bankruptcy, many very difficult decisions
need to be taken.
around the necks of European Leaders is the future of
the continent. Leadership is needed to reach a consensus with the people to
take all the necessary and difficult steps to overcome the crisis. Will the
people of Ireland or Latvia accept drastic cuts in their basic public services
whilst the European Union “can afford” the luxury and extreme cost of its
Parliament meeting in two places? Such questions will inevitable arise and
we need our leaders to answer them.
Europe with future politicians and leaders.
Our Summer School will be dedicated to discussing how we want Europe in
the future to be. Under the auspices of MHDZ Croatia, the 2009 DEMYC
Summer School will be held from 36 September in Zadar, Croatia under the
title “New European leadershipdifferent Europe”. I look forward to seeing
you all in Zadar and discuss the important political challenges facing our
countries.
