SerCoLab is pleased to announce new instrumentation and applications for desorption of blood sample from a medical test sheet comprising up to four dried blood spots (DBS) for the purpose of biomedical analysis of the blood sample. Dried blood spot (DBS) sampling or Dried Matrix Sampling is an emerg- ing technology for bioanalysis. It is particularly useful in the clinical and pharmaceutical laboratory, typically requiring only a 5-15 μL blood sample, offering easy, convenient, cost effective sample collection, transport and storage. DBS autosampler New technology: revolutionizes dried blood spot (DBS) preparation and full automation of the analysis The new method eliminates the need for first punching out a disc area of the test sheet containing dried blood sample, thus speeding up the procedure considerably and the on- line desorption of dried blood spots is faster and easier and allows for further automation of the process. This new technique – Spark’s inno- vative Flow-through desorption (FTD™) technology, forms the basis of its revolutionary new DBS Autosampler™ for the preparation of dried blood spots, or other biological liquid samples on DBS cards for analy- sis by mass spectrometry and other analytical techniques, without any manual intervention. It also offers the advantage of patients being able to take their own blood samples in the comfort of their own home, saving patient stress and transport costs, and provides a convenient sam-pling option in remote locations where medical facilities are not readily available.

The small volumes required also make this an ideal system for biobank research projects and small animal testing in drug development studies.

The analysis of such samples, however is sensitive to human error and laborious, due to tedious manual punching out and automation is requiring costly punching robotics.
