VRV IV total solutionsto maximise energy efficiencyEnergy in buildings
In many commercial buildings, there are energy balance requirements.
Energy is needed for both heating and cooling, for hot water and
refrigeration, as well as for ventilation. Typically, these functions are
powered and operated by separate systems and all of the energycollected by these systems is rejected into the outside air.
But with a VRV solution, many of these building HVAC services can be
operated by a single system, which can recover waste energy and reuse
it to provide heating or cooling capacity elsewhere within the building.
Understanding whole building needs
Heating, cooling, refrigeration and air conditioning account for around
40-50% of a typical building’s energy usage. Most buildings rely mainly on
primary energy from energy supplier.
However, by understanding the whole building’s heating and cooling
needs at the outset, an integrated climate control solution can be delivered
that offers much higher energy efficiency levels, thus reducing the energy
consumption and carbon impact of a building.
Daikin has the technology, and all the products, to deliver the definitive
answer: a total solution that redefines efficiency.

VRV Heat Recovery heating and cooling solutions
Air curtains
Biddle air curtains are the ideal solution for retailers
and consultants to combat the issue of climate
separation across their outlet or office doorway. Usinga combination of rectifier technology, air velocity and
temperature control, they deliver greater comfort to
staff and customers alike, all year round, in all weathers.
AHU and VAM connections
Air handling units provide bulk air movement around
a building, to provide ventilation and maintain indoor
air quality. By using a VRV system to connect directly
via a refrigerant circuit, the VRV IV systems are ableto provide heating and cooling to air handling units
to reduce or eliminate the increased loads on the air
conditioning system due to fresh air.
Hot water
The waste hea t from offices,
comms rooms, open reception
areas, or even industrial
applications can be re-used
to provide, not just sanitary
hot water, but also underfloor
heating or water for an Air
handling unit (AHU).

Variable Refrigerant Volume [VRV ] was first developed
by Daikin over 30 years ago.
This game-changing innovation revolutionised
heating and cooling, providing the ability to operate
different climate control settings simultaneously in
various areas of a building.
By circulating only the volume of refrigerant
required at any given time to meet the capacity
demand, VRV offered two key benefits: reduced
energy consumption and greater control for
building occupants.
Since its introduction, Daikin has led the way in
taking this technology to new levels of efficiency,
comfort and control.
Now Daikin has completely re-designed this
technology to create our market-leading climate
control solution: VRV IV Heat Recovery.
The result is over 30% more efficient than
previous systems.

Real efficiency of design takes into account the lifetime of a
system, not just today’s known requirements. A building’s tenants,
uses and internal layouts may change – so its HVACR system may
need to adapt.
Redefining efficiency
in design
Build in future flexibility
with Multi-BS boxesA change of tenant or building
usage typically requires substantial
changes to branch selector (BS)
boxes and pipework. BS boxes
usually have a limited number
of unused fan coil connections.
But with Daikin’s new multi-branch
selector boxes, that restriction no
longer applies.
For example, a single fan coil could
be attached to a 10-way box,
leaving 9 ports unused for futureneeds. Each of those vacant ports
could later be used for 14kW fan
coils, or to serve the high demand
of a communications room.
There should be no need to fit
different or additional BS boxes.
Only the pipe work needs to be
changed in order to reposition fan
coils for the new configuration.
However, Daikin continues to offer
single BS boxes, so a dedicated boxcan easily be added to the main
pipework, if required.

Advanced IESmodelling capabilities
To bring advanced VRV Heat Recovery modelling capabilities
to the market, Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) has
partnered with Daikin UK to integrate the Daikin Dynamic VRV
Systems Sizing Tool within the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE).
This software tool enables architects and engineers to
accurately establish the performance of these state of
the art systems within their building project.
Users can automatically size the system and select
the correct VRV indoor and outdoor unit model-
number based on the buildings heating and cooling
loads. Full thermal simulations then reveal annualloads, power input and efficiencies.
The tool allows users to compare alternative
configurations so that they can easily evaluate the
best option to maximise energy efficiency and lower
building energy use.
The software can be used with version VE6.5 onwards
and covers the whole Daikin VRV range.

Sound levels in buildings are a major factor in occupant comfort.
We have made dramatic reductions in the sound levels of our
BS boxes with the introduction of new technology so you can
be confident in achieving your clients’ expectations.
These reductions have been made possible by completely
redesigning the expansion valves and carefully refining and testing
the control logic to deliver the lightest, smallest, most efficient and
quietest range of Branch Selector boxes available on the market today.
Branch Selector Boxes designed for low sound levels
The Daikin 4 way multi box offers a sound reduction of 6.5 dBA when compared against other manufacturers under normal operating
conditions. It also offers a sound reduction of 13.5 dBA (sound pressure when changing over from one mode to another) when compared
with previous models.

Redefining efficiency
in installationFor installers, efficiency is all about time and profitability:
the time taken to fit and commission systems, meet project
deadlines and avoid delays due to unexpected complexity or
changing conditions.
Efficiency in installation is pivotal to competitiveness in project tenders. Ultimately, it can
also be the difference between profit and loss on the job.
The new Daikin three-pipe VRV IV Heat Recovery system takes no longer to install than
a two-pipe system. In fact, our latest technology is designed to make installation faster,
easier and more flexible than ever before.
Smaller Multi-Branch Selector Boxes [BS]
To make system fitting easier for installers, our range now includes
4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 16-way BS boxes. Unlike other manufacturers’
multi-boxes, these do not require complex separators inside.
Accordingly, all Daikin multi-boxes are at least 30% smaller –
and our 4-way and 8-way boxes are actually half the size of other
manufacturers’ equivalents.
A single BS box is also available if required for a remote area
requiring independent control of heating and cooling
[EXAMPLES: comms room, or a newly-added enclosed office].
All Daikin multi-boxes will fit comfortably into a 300mm ceiling.
They are also quieter and up to 32% lighter than those of other
manufacturers. Unlike other manufacturers’ multi-boxes, each
port can be connected to a 14kW fan without any loss of cooling
capacity. Those other multi-boxes are also subject to a maximum
8kW fan coil on each port. So each Daikin BS multi-box can handle
75% extra capacity.
Easier commissioning and servicing
Daikin VRV IV technology includes advanced software to simplify
system commissioning and servicing as well as multi-site
commissioning and control of installed systems.
The VRV configurator incorporates a graphical interface so that
settings can be pre-prepared off-site for high-speed uploading on
site. Among other benefits, this reduces the time required on a roof
to configure outdoor units, as well as reducing set-up errors that
would otherwise require repeat visits to site.
In addition, the software allows engineers to check systems,
evaluate operational data and identify any errors.

At the core of this technological breakthrough is Variable
Refrigerant Temperature [VRT]. New generation VRV doesn’t just
control the amount of refrigerant in the system; it also controlsthe temperature of that refrigerant.
Totally redesigned withVariable Refrigerant Temperature [VRT]
This means the evaporating and condensing temperatures can be
tailored precisely within an HVAC system to achieve the optimum
balance between comfort and efficiency.
The system adjusts intelligently to weather variations and real-time
working situations, as the load requirement fluctuates during the day
and within individual zones of the building.
In effect, it delivers a perfectly controlled interior climate without
wasting energy.

Market leading
operational efficiency
VRV IV Efficiency VRF Efficiency
Operational efficiency is much more than a nominal measure of energy consumption.
It is now measured in the real-life application of technology throughout the changing
seasons and the varying demands of building usage across each year.
VRV IV HR compared with astandard VRF* system*Variable Refrigerant Flow
Building type: Multi-storey office block
Time: Summer
In this example, the differing energy consumptions
are show in a multi-storey office block with reception
area, cellular and open plan offices, meeting rooms,
washrooms and communications room.
The building is routinely occupied from 08.00-19.00,
Monday-Friday and generally unoccupied outside
these hours.
The enhanced capabilities of our new systems mean
that we are already well-placed for imminent changes
in how efficiency will be rated in future.
From 2016, VRV systems will no longer be rated
on the basis of a single measure, but on their
performance over a typical year.

In the current commercial environment, retailers are under pressure
to reduce both store development and running costs. Legislation
adds further financial pressure, with initiatives such as the Carbon
Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme meaning that
larger retailers need to improve energy efficiency dramatically,
or face stringent penalties.
Reducing
retail costs
Affordable, energy efficient solutions are vital to minimise lifetime
costs, while ensuring compliance with the latest regulations.
According to the Carbon Trust, the retail sector is responsible for
around 21 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The retail
sector could cut its total spend on heating and cooling by a
massive £560 million annually by making energy savings of 20%.
The Carbon Trust also estimates that heating and hot water
account for 60% of a retailer’s energy bills. Typically, retailers with
air conditioning systems have double the energy consumption and
association carbon emissions compared with those that don’t. This
need not be the case if an energy efficient solution is implemented.
VRV solutions offer:
> Energy saving inverter heat pump technology, delivering
COP’s of up to 8 in mixed mode operation
> Individual control of each indoor unit
> A customisable solution using ‘variable refrigerant temperature’
to achieve the highest seasonal efficiency
> The highest standards of heating comfort, thanks to continuous
heating during defrost
> Flexible installation: the heat pump can be installed outdoors to
maximise commercial space internally or can be installed indoors
so there is no visual impact and low noise.
Versatile climate control
Climate control is key to creating a comfortable
browsing environment in store. However a uniform
temperature across the store is often not the best
solution. Retailers need the flexibility to control
multiple indoor units individually, so that the differentareas of a shop – such as the shop floor, storage and
staff areas – can be set at different temperatures in
order to provide the highest levels of comfort for staff
and customers.
Energy efficient VRV systems help to improve
comfort levels, while allowing each area to maintain
its set temperature. Micro processors balance
the system’s performance with the building’s
requirements to enable its compressors to operate
down to power levels 40 to 45% lower than more
conventional systems, thus reducing running costs
and carbon emissions.

Porsche Centre, Colchester
Extending a car showroom ahead of the launch of the sporty
Macan Turbo SUV meant the Porsche Centre in Colchesterneeded an equally standard-setting heating and ventilation
system to provide a comfortable environment for customers
and staff.
Echoing the Macan’s principles of performance, efficiency
and comfort the heating and ventilation system now serving
the enlarged display area – created by converting the former
workshop – is Daikin’s range-topping VRV IV heat pump and
a VAM ventilation unit.
The new heat pump operates alongside an earlier VRV III heat
recovery system, which serves the existing offices.
The ceiling units installed at Colchester are ideal for use in shopsand medium sized offices, because they can be used with ducts
of varying lengths. They consume 20% less electricity than similar
earlier models, thanks to a new DC fan.
The Daikin VAM heat reclaim ventilat ion (HRV ) unit, also mounted
in the ceiling, modulates the temperature and humidity of
incoming fresh air to match the indoor conditions. This provides a
balance between indoor and outdoor temperatures, significantly
reducing the cooling or heating load on the air conditioning
system while ensuring frequent air-changes.

mid-priced goods for the home – DIY, homewares, furniture, lighting, arts and crafts and garden products.
The Daikin systems ser ving The Range’s 7,800m2 store in
Warrington provide a complete solution for climate control
and hot water. Seven VRV IV heat pump condensing units and
71 self-cleaning Roundflow Cassettes heat or cool the shop floor
in response to commands from the Daikin RTD-20 retail control
system. A VRV III heat recovery system and standard fan coils
provide simultaneous heating and cooling in the offices and
other back-of-house facilities – as well as hot water.
The VRV IV heat pump is 28% more efficient than earlier models,
as its Variable Refrigerant Temperature technology adjusts to
provide optimal seasonal efficiency at all times. VRV IV alsoqualifies for ECA approval.

Efficient building and facilities management are key to minimising
operational costs within medium-sized offices and large
office complexes.
Efficiency in the
workplace
Heating, air conditioning, hot water and ventilation are all
significant areas of energy consumption. But neither the
commercial climate, nor the current legislative framework,
will tolerate wasted resources. Responsible businesses are
seeking new and innovative ways to rein in their running costs
and carbon emissions.
Daikin provides total climate management solutions that put
building managers in complete control of the indoor climate. VRV
solutions are ideal for medium to large buildings, helping installers,
specifiers and building managers to:
> Dramatically reduce the cost of hot water and heating byre-using heat recovered from areas requiring cooling
> Ensure controllable comfort, by simultaneously heating
spaces while cooling others
> Choose outdoor heat pump installation to maximise commercial
space internally or indoor installation to minimise the visual
impact and noise externally.
A healthier office atmosphereVRV’s integrated capabilities mean that ventilation and air
conditioning can be combined in one system, with air filtration
ensuring a steady supply of clean air. Energy waste is minimised
by recovering heat from the stale air expelled from buildings and
using it to heat incoming air virtually for free.
Cutting the cost of hot waterBy using VRV’s heat pump technology to recover
heat from areas requiring cooling, reclaimed heat can
be used to produce hot water for sinks, under floor
heating, showers and radiators. The entire system can
be connected to solar panels to provide additional
solar thermal energy for hot water production.
Centralised controls for officesManaging comfort settings and energy consumption
is easy with VRV systems, which offer user-friendly
controls that can be integrated with other buildingservices such as lighting and blinds.
> Easy to use touch screen
> Many energy saving functions available including
movement sensors, controllers with evening and
holiday schedules
> Energy consumption can be set per indoor unit
> Monitoring and control available for up to
128 indoor units
> Online monitoring and control available for
multiple buildings
> Controls can be integrated with other systems

Velocity, Brooklands
Energy efficient heat recovery air conditioning from
Daikin UK enhances the ‘green’ credentials of a stylish officedevelopment designed to attract ‘head office’ tenants at
Brooklands, in Surrey.
With their Breeam ‘excellent’ rating and low B ratings for
energy performance, the two buildings in the 9,885m2 Velocity
development sport a range of environment friendly systems to
create a top-class workplace that is economically attractive to
both landlord and tenants.
Named to evoke memories of Brooklands’ aviation and motor
racing past, the five-storey Velocity buildings symbolise
streamlined speed and their systems reflect the best in technology.
Solar shading on the south-facing aspects reduces solar gain, while rooftop photovoltaic and solar thermal arrays provide
renewable alternatives for some of the buildings’ energy needs.
Daikin UK’s VRV III heat recovery systems were specified for
Velocity’s office heating and cooling needs, giving the buildings a
total of 358hp of air conditioning power.
The entire air conditioning system is controlled automatically by
the Building Energy Management System, which is programmed
to keep indoor temperatures at 22-23°C all year.
“ Daikin is a personal preference of mine. They were first with
VRV and have led the field with improvements to the concept. Their systems are very reliable.”

Flow, Staines-upon-Thames
A structural extension to suit a major tenant moving into
a high efficiency new-build office development beside theRiver Thames provided an ideal opportunity to compare
the performance of two generations of Daikin VRV air
conditioning systems.
The original 6,709m2 development at Staines-upon-Thames
consisted of two buildings – Flow 1 and Flow 2. Respectively four
and three storeys, they were built speculatively and Category A
fitted for possible occupation by up to seven individual tenants
after completion in 2013. Both buildings have BREEAM ‘excellent’
ratings – exceeding the original aim of ‘very good’ through
increased on-site efficiency.
Complementing the buildings’ other efficiencies, seven separate,
independently controlled Daikin VRV III heat recovery systemswith outdoor units of 20hp to 38hp were installed.
However, the whole development has been let to an American
software company on a 10-year lease and contractors have
added walk-though access between the first and second floors
of the buildings.
The two-storey link adds another 173m2 of usable space,
requiring two additional fan coil units on each level, served by
the new 8hp VRV IV HR condenser.

Hospitalitywith economy
Daikin’s cost-effective solutions can offer total control of hotel air
conditioning, ventilation, heating and hot water, with stylish yet
silent, draft-free indoor units that promise a good night’s sleep.
And because VRV is a modular solution, upgrade and renovation
projects can be phased to minimise interruption.
Integrated heat recovery
Integrated solutions offer zone by zone control of hospitality areas
and guest bedrooms:
> Recovering heat from areas requiring cooling and re-using for
low cost heating and hot water
> Creating the perfect environment for guests by simultaneously
heating spaces while cooling others
> Maximising hospitality space with outdoor heat pump
installation, or opting for indoor installation in city centres,
to minimise external space and noise.
Heating water with renewable energy
Renewable energy can be used to produce low-cost hot water for
bathrooms, under floor heating and radiators, thanks to VRV heat
recovery solutions, which reclaim waste heat from areas requiringcooling to heat hot water up to 80°C.
Smart energy management
Daikin VRV systems can be controlled centrally,
in tandem with other building services such as
lighting and fire alarm systems, for optimum comfort,
efficiency and safety:
> Centralised management available for VRV systems
with up to 2,560 indoor units
> Controls offer intuitive navigation, graphicalinterface and extensive reporting
> Energy consumption can be set per indoor unit
> Controls can be integrated with other systems
e.g. lighting, fire alarms etc.
> Online monitoring and control is available for
multiple buildings.
Intelligent hotel room controller
Hotel owners need full control of energy use. A Daikin
intelligent controller can adjust the system setpoint
when bedrooms are vacant or windows are opened,
thus preventing unnecessary energy consumption
to maintain absolute control over the hotel’s runningcosts and environmental impact. Daikin’s intelligent
room controller:
> Connects to all types of controllers, including easy
to use touch screens
> Integrates easily with hotel management software.

Bloomsbury Hotel, London
In a nine-month phased project, the Grade II listed
Bloomsbury Hotel replaced an ageing air conditioningsystem to beat the ban on R22 refrigerant and achieve
significant energy savings.
As part of ongoing upgrade programme, the hotel’s owners,
The Doyle Collection, wanted to cut energy usage and CO2
emissions. They opted for a Daikin VRV-Q system, which is
40% more efficient in heating and 25% better in cooling than
R22 systems.
VRV-Q has the added benefit of allowing the re-use of existing
pipework and some indoor units – reducing replacement costs
and speeding up installation. At the Bloomsbury, the installation
cost savings were about 50%. The phased replacement also
minimised the impact on occupancy rates and therefore theeffect on revenue.
In its first year of operation, the VRV-Q system helped reduced the
Bloomsbury Hotel’s energy usage by 15,000kWh – independently
assessed as a 23.5% year-on-year saving.
“The Daikin system is more efficient and certainly quieter than
the old one. Our energy bills are between 23% and 26% lower
than before the system was changed.”
Michael Neve, General Manager, Bloomsbury Hotel

Chester Hotel, Aberdeen
A £5 million refurbishment programme, which saw the
Simpsons Hotel in Aberdeen transform into the five starChester Hotel, sparked some special creativity in air
conditioning design for public areas.
Chris Thoms, Mechanical Design Manager for Hutcheon Services,
Aberdeen, was tasked with providing a five star air conditioning
solution for the new-look hotel. The system chosen to air-
condition the public areas and the conference and wedding
facilities was Daikin VRV III Heat Recovery.
“ The client was keen on the Daikin system for its high energy
efficiency and the benefits of a VRV heating and cooling system,”
he says.
“ It was challenging getting the air conditioning for the mainconference room into the project because of the thickness of
acoustic insulation above the ceiling. There wasn’t really a ceiling
void to house the units.”
Various alternatives were considered, but the chosen solution
was to fabricate ‘domes’ matching the circular overhead light
fittings selected for the conference room. The domes provided
depth to accommodate Daikin slim ducted fan coil units, each
with a nominal 7kW of cooling and 8kW of heating.

Public buildings are under increasing pressure to lead the way in
sustainability, in order to reduce carbon emissions – and improve
energy efficiency as part of overall strategy to spend public money
more carefully.
The government estate makes up a significant part of the built
environment, providing working places for 5.4 million people –
about 18% of the workforce. According to the Office of NationalStatistics, ‘public’ buildings are responsible for about 10 million
tonnes of CO2 annually.
In seeking to meet energy efficiency targets across both public and
private sectors, government and its agencies have to demonstrate
a willingness to replace outdated and wasteful heating and cooling
systems with efficient modern technology.
VRV systems provide ideal solutions for most public buildings,
offering operating cost savings, a reduced carbon footprint,
high efficiency in all ambient conditions and a working
environment that is always comfortable for staff and visitors.
VRV is the established leader in air conditioning technology –and the perfect tool to lead the drive for carbon reduction.

Portcullis House, Cardiff
Switching to Daikin VRV IV heat recovery air conditioning as
part of a major refurbishment project has given the ownersof a 3,600m2 Cardiff office building an additional benefit –
a healthy extra 350m2 of space to let to the new tenant,
the NHS.
Portcullis House, previously occupied by HMRC, has three storeys
of open plan offices and seven storeys of smaller offices and
meeting rooms in a taller wing behind.
An old four-pipe air conditioning system, with floor-mounted
fan coil units, piping and associated trunking on perimeter walls,
has been removed – yielding the 10% increase in lettable space.
Heating and cooling for the old system was provided by boilers
and chillers – all of which were in a poor state.
Daikin’s brand new VRV IV heat recovery air conditioning was
specified for its cutting edge technology and high efficiency.
As an added benefit, its refrigerant piping, branch selector boxes
and round flow cassettes could all be accommodated within the
existing ceiling voids.
Portcullis House has a fairly high degree of solar gain, which
means that it often requires simultaneous cooling and heating.
The VRV IV heat recovery facility means rejected thermal energy
from the ‘hot’ side can be used efficiently to warm the colder
parts of the building.
> 3 VRV IV heat recovery condensing units (22h and 26hp)> 38 Roundflow Cassettes (1.8kW to 7.2kW)
> 21 Wall-mounted fan coil units (1.2kW to 2.9kW)
Case study
Palace of Westminster, London
During a refurbishment project at the Houses of Parliament,
Daikin’s innovative VRV-Q plug-in system was selectedto replace outdated air conditioning systems using now
banned R22 refrigerant.
Like many other buildings with R22 systems, the iconic London
landmark had to make the change because of the phase-out of
the gas. New sources of R22 were banned in 2010 and recycled
gas was also banned from 31December 2014 under European
environmental legislation.
VRV-Q uses R410A refrigerant, which has zero ozone depletion
potential and reduces associated CO2 emissions. VRV-Q also
improves energy efficiency and is able to reduce energy
consumption by up to 40%.
VRV-Q offers a technically secure and cost-effective option to a
full system upgrade. It can reduce the cost of an R22 upgrade
by up to 50% because VRV-Q outdoor units are designed to
work with existing R22 piping – and potentially also controllers
and indoor units manufactured after 1996. This means only the
outdoor units and heat recovery branch selector boxes have to
be changed – saving time and reducing costs.
A fast and effective upgrade is possible because VRV-Q
operates at lower pressures to suit existing R22 piping, without
compromising efficiency levels. In fact, a VRV-Q 10hp system has
a COP of 3.98 and an EER of 4.00 – around 50% more efficient
than the equivalent R22 system it replaces.

> The best alternative to traditional heating systems
The new standard in heating comfort
VRV IV Heat Pump for continuous comfort, even during defrost
Because the VRV IV Heat Pump continues to provide continuous
heating even when in defrost mode, it provides the answer to
any perceived disadvantages of specifying a heat pump for
monovalent heating.
Heat pumps are known for their high energy efficiency in heating,
but they accumulate ice during heating operation and this must
be melted periodically using a defrost function that reverses the
refrigeration cycle. This causes a temporary temperature drop,
which can reduce comfort levels inside the building.
Defrosting can take over 10 minutes (depending on the size of thesystem) and occurs most frequently between -7 and +7°C when
there is most humidity.
How does it work?VRV IV Heat Pump features a unique heat-accumulating element,
based on phase change materials, which provides energy to
defrost the outdoor unit while continuing to provide heating, thus
maintaining a comfortable indoor climate. The energy needed for
defrosting is stored in the element during normal heating operations.
How phase change material works
A phase change material (PCM) will store or release energy when
it changes phase from solid to liquid or liquid to solid.
The outdoor unit coil is defrosted …
… with the energy stored in the heat accumulating element …
… while indoors a comfortable temperature is maintained.

A field trial at a German fashion chain store
demonstrated how the innovative features of
VRV IV have improved energy efficiency
dramatically over previous models.
The results of the trial showed that the new VRV IV
system consumed much less energy, particularly
when cooling, compared with the VRV III system –in some cases up to 60% less. When heating, savings
were an average of 20%.
The Unterhaching trial demonstrates how VRV IV heat
pump technology uses a renewable energy source
– air – to provide a complete and environmentally
sustainable solution for heating, cooling, and
ventilation in commercial environments. The trial also
shows that businesses can only identify and control
energy wastage through careful and intelligent
monitoring of climate control systems, a servicewhich Daikin can offer.

The Daik in low-cost upgrade solution
4 Reuse drain pipes
Durable PVC pipes can be easily reused. Only flow tests are required.
4 Reuse refrigerant pipesPipes used for R- will also work with VRV-Q, thanks to lower
operating pressures of the system.
4 Reuse refrigerant branch pipes
There are no restri ctions when upgrading from a Daik in VRV system.
Other VRF systems require branch pipes to withstand pressure up
to . MPa.
! Replace indoor units and BS boxesContact your local dealer to check compatibility in case you need
to keep the indoor units.
4 Reuse remote control wiring
Reuse wiring when upgrading from a Daikin VRV system. In other cases,
this will depend on the cable type.
4 Reuse indoor-outdoor wiring
Restrictions: see remote control wiring.
! Replace outdoor units
Replacement VRV R22 is a hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) which was commonly used in air conditioning
systems. However, both new and recycled sources of R22 are now banned.
Many systems today are still running on R22. But as R22 is no longer available, now’s
the time to replace R22 systems. The good news is that Daikin’s VRV-Q solution delivers
significantly higher energy efficiencies, with the potential of saving up to 50%, compared
with installing a completely new system.

Always operational
Avoid loss of business
Replacing now prevents unplanned, lengthy
disruption of air conditioning systems. It also avoids
loss of business for shops, complaints from guests inhotels, lower working efficiency and loss of tenants
in offices.
Quick and easy installation
No interruption of daily business while replacing the
system thanks to phased-in, fast installation.
A future-proof,
high-quality solution
Customers can replace systems cost effectively from
other manufacturers with highly-efficient and flexible
Daikin VRV technology, featuring higher qualityindoor units that deliver enhanced comfort and
superior performance.
A cost saving decision
Reduce costs
System upgrades cost less, because only the
outdoor and indoor units need to be replaced.
This is also the easiest and fastest way to comply
with regulations for buildings.
Environment protection
Improved efficiency saves energy and lowers CO₂
emissions as well as reducing your energy costs.

Lower long-term costsEU Directives prohibit system repairs with R-22 after 31 December 2014. Delaying the
required R-22 replacement until an unplanned system breakdown is a losing game.
Replacement day will come. Installing a technically advanced system lowers energy
consumption and maintenance costs from day one.

Refrigerant branch pipes
Refrigerant branch pipes, including those from
other manufacturers, Y-refnets, T-refnets and headers,
can be reused under the following conditions:
✓ Pipes are corrosion-free✓ Pipes are insulated
✓ Pipes can withstand a pressure up to . MPa
✓ There are no special components that implement
decompression (e.g. oil trap)
✓ Installed copper pipework is in suitable condition
(piping thickness will generally meet specifications,
since the unique Daikin VRV solution operates at
lower pressure levels)
Refrigerant oil
Refrigerant piping can be reused if one of thefollowing oils was used: Barrel Freeze, Ethereal,
Ester, Ferreol, HAB, MS, Suniso.
