d. Films, Tapes, Photographs, etc.

Myotonia Congenita in Montadale Sheep: Video film made possible by an April 1993 finding of a rare condition (Myotonia congenita) in a Maryland sheep flock. The video was made in collaboration with other clinicians of the VMRCVM to demonstrate this rare condition. The tape is being distributed to the VMRCVM, The New York State College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University and the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania for demonstration in the respective teaching programs. Slides: Since 1975 I have prepared thousands of slides of clinical diseases and disorders of porcine, bovine, ovine, caprine and equine species. These have been repeatedly used in slide presentations during lectures for students, practicing veterinarians, producers and national veterinary medical forums. Technical Publications:

e. Original Designs, Plans, Inventions and Patents:

A system and technique were developed for antemortem bronchioalveolar lavage of large animal species to retrieve large numbers of viable immune cells from the surfaces of the bronchioalveolar spaces. The technique was originally designed for use in anesthetized horses and subsequently adopted for use in unanesthetized cattle. Objective measure of pain in large animal hoofs. This device is a standard hoof tester that was modified with a Dillon Force Gage by U. Tasch and R.M. Dyer to measure the force placed on a hoof during standard veterinary examination. Pain is objectively determined as a dcrease in force required to trigger a withdrawl response.

A 1 dimensional, bilateral force plate system for detection of lameness in dairy cattle. The system includes a novel,

bilateral force plate with 8 load cells designed to detect vertical load shifts in lame cattle. The soft ware was

developed to equate vertical force (1 dimension) to lesion development, objective pain scores and locomotion scores

in cattle. The soft and hardware is marketed world wide as Stepmetrix by Boumatic LLC , Madison, Wisconsin.

A 3 dimensional force plate system for aoutomated detection of lameness in cattle (in progress). The system is a

modification and improvement of the 1 dimensional system (Stepmetrix) and is designed to measure forces in the x,

y and z dimensions across both hindlimbs of dairy cattle. The software package is designed to equate 48 different

kinetic measures to lesion score, lopcomotion score and a=onjective pain measures on lame dairy cattle.
