Grants Proposed $3 million Requested from the National Science Foundation, 2015-2017

Urban Nature Ambassadors for Yard and Garden Conservation Practices: STEM Learning and Ecosystem Services Working with a team of scientists from Portland State University, this research proposal establishes a sustainable urban citizen science program in four US cities. This study focuses on three urban ecosystem services provided by yard habitats and community gardens. The study will also assess STEM learning outcomes; how volunteers’ ecological knowledge, attitudes, and related behavior change due to their participation; and how level of participation affects learning. I will serve as a consultant on this project developing research instruments and methodology for measuring social influence of volunteers.
