    Letter From Our CEO

    Care for our people. Intels success relies on our

    employees ability to create and innovatein

    technology, in business, and in their communities.

    We invest signicant resources in employee train-

    ing and development, great-place-to-work anddiversity initiatives, and programs that empower

    employees to volunteer with local schools and

    nonprot organizations. For example, through

    our Intel Involved program, our employees have

    donated more than 5 million hours o volunteer

    service around the world over the past ve

    years. We measure our progress each year by

    soliciting employee eedback through our annual

    Organizational Health Survey; in our 2012 survey,88% o employees reported that they are proud

    to work or Intel, up rom 87% in 2011.

    Care for the planet. We are committed to

    environmental leadership in our own operations,

    in our products, and across our supply chain.

    Since 2008, Intel has been the largest voluntary

    purchaser o green power in the U.S., according

    to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Ourinvestments in energy conservation rom 2008

    through 2012 have saved more than 1.2 billion

    kilowatt-hours o energy, equivalent to removing

    126,000 U.S. homes rom the electric grid. We

    estimate that energy-ecient Intel technology

    will enable the billion PCs installed between 2007

    and 2014 to consume hal the energy and deliver

    17 times the compute capacity o the rst billion

    PCs and servers installed worldwide (between

    1980 and 2007). We have also invested resources

    to improve the accountability and transparency

    o our suppliers, and have ormally integrated

    environmental metrics in the scorecards we

    use in our supplier management and supplier

    recognition programs.

    Inspire the next generation. We believe

    that success in todays innovation economy

    depends on access to technology and quality

    education. Intel and the Intel Foundation invest

    approximately $100 million annually in education

    programs around the worldrom technology

    training or teachers to premier science airs or

    students. In 2012, we helped launch the Stay

    With It campaign to help connect engineering

    students with each other and with experienced

    engineers, role models, and infuencers, and

    encourage them to stay with engineering as theireld o study. We also partnered on the launch

    o the Girl Rising lm and 10x10 social action

    campaign, which highlights the importance o

    investing in the education o girls and women

    to advance economic opportunity.

    We strive or continuous improvement in our own

    business, and collaborate with other organizations

    to advance best practices in corporate responsibil-

    ity worldwide. As a United Nations Global Compact

    LEAD member, we are committed to transparency

    in reporting about our corporate responsibility

    perormance and actions. We welcome your eed-

    back on this report, prepared in accordance with

    the Global Reporting Initiative* G3.1 Sustainability

    Reporting Guidelines.

    I will retire in May 2013 ater almost 40 years at

    the company. I am proud o the progress we have

    made in corporate responsibility during the eight

    years I have served as CEO. It has been an honor

    to work with the employees o Intel, who every

    day move technology orward, empower people,

    and transorm our world in ways we had never

    imagined. I have no doubt that their innovations

    and actions will continue to improve lives while

    sustaining our businessand the planetin theyears to come.

    Cultivating an Ethical Culture.

    Intel has a longstanding commit-

    ment to investing in systems

    to cultivate a culture o strong

    business ethics and accountability. In recognition

    o our eorts, in 2012 Intel was named to

    Ethispheres list o the Worlds Most Ethical

    Companies. All employees receive regular train-

    ing on the Intel Code o Conduct, which directs

    employees to consider both short- and long-term

    impacts on the environment and the community

    when making business decisions, and to report

    potential ethical issues as soon as they arise.

    Linking Compensation. Since 2008, we have

    linked a portion o every employees variable

    compensationrom ront-line employees to

    our CEOto the achievement o environmental

    sustainability metrics. We believe that this prac-

    tice helps reinorce or our entire workorce the

    strategic importance that we place on achieving

    our environmental objectives. The 2012 metrics

    ocused on carbon emission reductions in our

    operations and energy-eciency goals or new

    products, while the 2013 metrics ocus on solid

    waste recycling in our operations.

    Commitment to Transparency.

    We work to maintain relationships

    built on trust through open and

    direct communication with internal

    and external stakeholders. Our Explore Intel web

    sites, or example, provide real-time disclosure

    and contact inormation or the communities sur-

    rounding Intel campuses in ve countries. We also

    work to promote transparency in our supply chain;

    in 2012, we requested that our top 75 suppliers

    publish Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)-

    based sustainability reports by the end o 2013.

    Shared Value. We have long dened corporate

    responsibility as a management approach that

    creates shared valuethat is, we work to lever-

    age Intels assets to address social and environ-

    mental issues while also creating business value

    and increasing our competitiveness. In 2012, Intel

    joined the new Shared Value Initiative launched

    by Harvard Business School proessor Michael

    Porter and the nonprot consulting rm FSG to

    advance the development o the shared value

    concept. We helped develop a white paper that

    provides companies with a step-by-step process

    and pragmatic approaches to the measurement

    and implementation o shared value strategies.

    Supply Chain Responsibility.

    Intel ranked number 7 on the

    2012 Gartner Supply Chain Top 25

    list, which recognizes excellence in

    supply chain management. We set clear expecta-

    tions, provide tools and training to help suppliers

    measure and improve their social and environ-

    mental perormance, and share our best practices

    across the industry. Audits and assessments

    enable us to identiy issues and provide appropri-

    ate education and system-level solutions. In 2012,

    we continued to lead the industry in addressing

    the issue o confict minerals in the electronics

    supply chain. In 2012, we achieved our goal to

    manuacture a microprocessor that has been veri-

    ed as confict-ree or the metal tantalum.

    We strive to create a better future for people everywhere through our

    actions and the application of our energy-efficient products and technology.

    We have embedded corporate responsibility into Intels vision, strategy,

    management systems, and long-term goals. This integrated approach createsvalue for Intel as well as our stockholders, customers, and society.

    Career Development. In 2012,

    Intel invested approximately $299

    million on employee training and

    development around the world,

    including instructor-led and e-learning courses,

    and tuition reimbursement or employees who

    are completing job-related degree programs or

    coursework. Our internal Intel University courses

    cover a broad range o topics, such as leadership

    development, project management, problem-

    solving, eective decision-making, cross-cultural

    training, and technical subjects. In Ireland over

    1,500 classes were run. We maintain a culture

    o open and honest communication, and encour-age employees to connect with managers, senior

    leaders, and one another through Open Forums,

    quarterly events, mentoring and coaching rela-

    tionships, employee groups, and online and social

    media channels, and to expand their skills through

    rotational or temporary assignments.

    Advancing Diversity. Diversity is an integral

    part o our competitive strategy and vision. Thewide range o perspectives that we gain by hiring

    rom a diverse, global labor pool gives us a better

    understanding o the needs o our customers,

    suppliers, and communities. We were recognized

    or our diversity practices by multiple organiza-

    tions in 2012, including being named to Working

    Mother magazines 100 Best Companies list and

    Diversity Employer magazines Top 100 Diversity

    Employers list.

    Health, Wellness, and Safety. We have created a

    portolio o health benet and wellness programs

    designed to encourage employees to evaluate,

    improve, and maintain their health and the health

    o their amilies.

    In 2012, 35% o employees in Ireland participated

    in our Health or Lie Wellness Check, which

    provides cholesterol and glucose testing, blood

    pressure and body mass index measurements, a

    health risk assessment, and wellness coaching.

    Intel Ireland ended 2012 with an Occupational

    Saety and Health Administration (OSHA) record-

    able rate o 0.14, which is best in class across the

    300mm actory network. In 2012, the Ireland site

    completed 1,429 individual instructor-led classes,

    delivering a total o 24,948 student hours o

    saety training over 204 unique saety classesa

    59% increase over the number o classes

    delivered in 2011.

    Promoting Volunteerism. Through

    the Intel Involved program, in 2012

    our employees donated 1.2 mil-

    lion hours o service in more than

    42 countries. In Ireland alone, more than 57,000

    hours were volunteered in schools and nonprot

    organizations. On a 2012 survey, 62% o our

    employees who volunteer reported that volun-teerism was a core component o their overall

    job satisaction, and 46% reported that volunteer-

    ing helped them build new subject matter knowl-

    edge. Through the Intel Involved Matching Grant

    Program, the Intel Foundation donated more than

    $468,270 in 2012 to Irish schools and nonprot

    organizations where employees volunteered. Over

    the past our years, the total donated by the Intel

    Foundation to nonprots in Ireland has reached

    $1,900,132. In that same time span, employee

    teams participating in the Intel Education Service

    Corps have traveled to schools, orphanages, and

    other locations in 16 developing countries to help

    install Intel-powered classmate PCs and provide

    digital literacy training benetting more than

    67,000 students.

    Intels success rests on our employees talents and ongoing passion

    for innovation. To keep Intel at the forefront of innovation, we invest in

    building a strong engineering pipeline, recruiting top talent, and offering

    career development and work/life programs that make Intel an employerof choice.

    Renewable Energy. For ve

    consecutive years, Intel has been

    the largest voluntary purchaser o

    green power in the U.S., accord-

    ing to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

    (EPA). We have announced that we will increase

    our 2013 purchase o green power to nearly 3.1

    billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), equivalent to 100%

    o our projected U.S. electricity use or the year.

    The Intel Ireland site is at the oreront o sus-

    tainable plant operations across Intel worldwide,

    voluntarily investing more than $10M in energy

    conservation projects at the Leixlip site in recent

    years. Reduction activities over the last threeyears have yielded savings o over 16,000 tons

    o carbon in both site-generated carbon and

    carbon emitted by electricity generators, which is

    equivalent to taking more than 4,000 cars o the

    road. Intel Ireland is also involved, in a leadership

    role, with the Energy Research Centre (I2E2), a

    collaborative entity established to encourage the

    industrial and academic sphere to work together

    towards achieving energy eciency in industry.

    Employee Engagement. In 2012, through our

    Sustainability in Action Grant Program, nine teams

    o employees rom around the world received

    grants to help implement their innovative envi-

    ronmental projects at Intel and in our local com-

    munities. Projects included an Irish scouts group

    that renovated waste ground behind their build-

    ing into a community space, which is now being

    used by local youth groups or outdoor education

    and training. Twelve employee teams also won

    Intel Environmental Excellence Awards (EEAs),

    including a Gold Award or Intel Ireland or the

    promotion o energy reduction in the local com-

    munity. Other winning projects included reducing

    the amount o water in the equipment that cools

    Intel actories worldwide. In addition to environ-

    mental benets, the winning 2012 EEA projects

    generated more than $40 million in estimated

    cost savings, bringing the total estimated savings

    generated by EEA projects around the world to

    more than $200 million over the past three years.

    Energy-Efficient Products.

    We strive to minimize the environ-

    mental impact o our products at all

    phases in their liecycle: develop-

    ment, production, use, and ultimate disposal. In

    2012, we increased shipments o processors withIntels breakthrough 3-D Tri-Gate transistors. The

    new transistors enable chips to operate at lower

    voltage with lower leakage, providing signicantly

    improved perormance and energy eciency

    compared to previous generations o transistors.

    Our 22nm 3-D transistor technology enables up

    to a 37% increase in perormance at low volt-

    age compared to Intels 32nm planar transistors.

    Alternatively, the new transistors consume lessthan hal the power o 2D transistors on 32nm

    chips operating with similar perormance.

    Technology for the Environment. Intel contin-

    ues to explore opportunities to apply technology

    to address sustainability challenges in areas

    such as energy production, transportation, and

    the management o natural resources. The Intel

    Energy and Sustainability Lab (Intel ESL), based in

    Ireland, drives our research in the use o inorma-

    tion technology to enable a high-tech, low-carbon

    economy. In 2012, Intel ESL launched a collabora-

    tion with two London universities aimed at apply-

    ing computing technologies to advance the social,

    economic, and environmental wellbeing o cities.

    We incorporate environmental performance goals throughout our operations,

    seeking continuous improvement in energy efficiency, emissions reductions,

    resource conservation, and other areas. We also focus on improving the

    energy-efficient performance of our products and collaborate with othersto develop innovative ways to apply technology to address long-term

    sustainability challenges.

    Technology Solutions. In 2012, Intel, in conjunc-

    tion with Steljes and the Educational Company o

    Ireland, awarded the national SmartClass com-

    petition winner a complete technology solution

    or a group o 140 students. The SmartClass

    prize, valued at $195,000, was won by Loreto

    Community School in Milord, Co. Donegal. In

    2012, Intel also ran, or the ourth consecutive

    year, the eSchools competition which gives a

    primary school in Ireland the opportunity to

    embrace the use o wireless technology in a

    classroom by oering a prize o a set o 30 indi-

    vidual computing devices along with a dedicated

    teacher device and a portable charging trolley.Another key component o our education activ-

    ity is the Intel Teach Program, through which

    millions o teachers in over 70 countries have

    learned how to eectively integrate technology

    and hands-on projects into their classrooms. Intel

    Teach Advanced Online continues to be part o

    Dublin City Universitys pre-service program or

    science teachers.

    Inspiring Young Innovators. Each

    year, 12,000 students rom across

    Ireland take part in Intel-run or

    supported science airs, giving

    them the chance to engage in science through

    an investigative approach to learning. The Intel

    Mini Scientist, which is targeted towards stu-

    dents between the ages o 8 and 12, took place

    in 70 dierent schools across Ireland in 2012,with more than 4,500 participants. In 2012, Intel

    continued as a key sponsor o the Sciest compe-

    tition, a series o one-day science exhibitions or

    second level students hosted across Ireland. More

    than 4,300 students exhibited almost 1,900 proj-

    ects as part o the competition, with the overall

    winning project going orward to compete at the

    Intel International Science and Engineering Fair

    (ISEF) in the U.S. In 2012, Intel also continued to

    sponsor the BT Young Scientist and Technology

    Exhibition and the Sentinus Young Innovators

    competition. Winners rom both also got the

    chance to go orward to the ISEF competition.

    Supporting Entrepreneurship. Throughout

    2012, Intel partnered with the Lions Club Ireland

    to deliver the Intel Youth Enterprise Program.

    The program, which eatures a two-day ide-

    ation training camp, is designed to educate

    students in the art o ideation, entrepreneurship

    and customer-driven innovation. More than 1,500

    students took part in the 14 dierent ideation

    camps that took place at Lions Clubs across

    Ireland.

    Empowering Girls and Women.

    Intel is engaged in multiple initia-

    tives that address the need or

    increased investment in education

    and technology access or girls and women. Intel

    Ireland has embraced the spirit o the global

    She Will campaign, launched in 2011, developinga localized strategy that is dedicated towards

    encouraging women and girls to participate,

    prosper, and lead in our economy. Through the

    Ronanstown Womens Project, a local educa-

    tional scheme supported by Intel, we sponsor 24

    women who are completing a diploma in Women,

    Gender and Social Justice studies.

    Intels success depends on the availability of skilled workers, a strong

    technology ecosystem, and knowledgeable customers. We believe that

    education and innovation are crucial to driving economic growth. In turn, the

    health of local economiesincluding those where our employees live andworkdepends on expanding access to technology and a quality education.

    Global Reach, Local Impact

    In 2012, Intel continued to work toward our vision of connecting andenriching the lives of people around the world through technology.

    Matching Grants Initiative. A total o $468,270

    was allocated to 150 community organizations

    and schools rom across Ireland as part o the

    2012 Intel Involved Matching Grant Program.

    Signature Charities Program. In 2012, Pieta

    House and MS Ireland were selected as Intel

    Irelands dedicated charities or volunteer and

    undraising activities. Employees organized and

    supported various events throughout the year,

    raising a total o $72,000 to be shared between

    the two organizations.

    Mini Scientist. With more than 4,500 students in

    70 dierent schools participating, 2012 was the

    biggest year yet or this competition that gives

    8-12 year old students across Ireland the chance

    to participate in science exhibitions or which

    they develop visual displays and accompanying

    project books.

    Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.

    Intel Ireland has been a Gold Sponsor o this event

    or 14 years, ocusing on the Physics, Chemistry

    and Mathematics section. We also sponsor a stu-

    dent and teacher award at the event, rewarding

    winners with an all-expense paid trip to the Intel

    International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)

    Transition Year Student Program. In 2012,

    Intel introduced a program o exploratory oer-

    ings aimed at transition year students, including

    the Cutting Edge Careers events, the Inspiring

    Females program, an Intel Shadow Week initiative,and the Intel Youth Enterprise Program.

    Dress for Success. In 2012, we worked with

    this organization to provide train-the-trainer

    sessions on interview, etiquette and job search

    skills, as well as one-on-one consultations on C.V.

    writing and interview preparation, to low-income

    women seeking employment and sel-suciency.

    Intel also provided technology equipment, which

    enabled Dress or Success to launch its Career

    Center.

    eSchools. This annual competitionwon by St.

    Finbarrs Boys National School in Cabra in 2012

    gives primary schools the chance to embrace

    wireless technology, with its prize o 30 individual

    computing devices, along with a dedicated teach-

    er device and a portable charging trolley.

    Women in Technology Scholarships. Launched

    in 2012, this scholarship program encourages

    high-achieving women to pursue a career in sci-

    ence and technology. Five women rom various

    Irish universities each received a monetary granto $2,600 per annum, as well as an Intel work

    placement and the provision o a career mentor.

    The Remarkable Rye River. In 2012, Intel

    launched The Remarkable Rye Water a special

    publication celebrating over two decades o

    documenting the aquatic lie and water quality o

    the River Rye. Since establishing operations at the

    Leixlip campus in 1989, Intel has been aware o

    the rich biodiversity contained within our site and

    the signicance o the Rye water and its valley.

    Intel in the City. As part o Dublin City o Science

    2012, Intel hosted a Sponsors o Tomorrow

    exhibition at the Science Gallery in Dublin eatur-

    ing our latest products and designs or the uture,

    and oering the public the opportunity to experi-

    ence technologies o tomorrow.

    Selected 2012 Awards and Recognitions

    Third-party recognition gives us valuable eedback on our programs and practices, and helps drive continuousimprovement over time. Below is a selection rom more than 60 corporate responsibility awards and recogni-tions that Intel received in 2012.

    Women Mean Business Award. Ann-Marie Holmes, Fab 24 Factory Manager at Intel Ireland, was named the

    Woman in Technology category winner at the Women Mean Business Awards.

    Chambers Ireland CSR Awards. Intel Ireland was shortlisted in two categories.
