Cspace® Basic Operation

7

850 nm Laser Based XGA DLP Projector

1532 nm Laser Based Z-Axis Polygon Scanner

Specialty glass containing rare earth metals that emit visible light when illuminated simultaneously to two IR lasers.

Lasers illuminate and raster the transparent media sequentially at high video rates to create a true 3D image that can be viewed from any angle.

Image Chamber

Key Advantages of CSpace®

•  Create true 3D images when depth of field must be accurately represented

•  Capable of higher resolutions using lower resolution photonic devices (create voxels vs pixels) -  Results in lower SWAP

•  Ability to create still, animated and video images •  All aspect viewing to enable collaboration during critical decision

making •  Reduction in eye and cognitive fatigue that can degrade user comfort,

endurance and reliability during critical decision making. •  Image created in a glass chamber to increase stability and reliability. •  Bill of materials primarily commercial off the shelf (COTs) •  Capable of larger image sizes

CSpace® Technology Status

Laboratory Prototype Completed •  Components shown to work together

in a laboratory environment •  Monochrome image •  Image visible in ambient lighting •  4 x 4 x 4 cm image size •  1024 x 768 projection resolution •  30 slice scanning resolution •  ~23 million voxel resolution

9

Laboratory Prototype

•  Future: 800 million voxel resolution, full color, desktop full size imaging

Key Challenges/Future Plans

•  Imaging Chamber Material -  Scalability/brightness due to conversion efficiency -  Image quality/contrast due to scattering -  Brightness/uniformity due to absorption -  Single piece vs segmented with bond lines

•  Image Chamber Illumination -  Scalability of polygon scanner -  Z-axis line/plane width uniformity and depth of focus -  Higher resolution image projection -  User eye protection

•  Thermal management •  Computing power as resolution increases

•  3DIcon Awarded $300K Grant & Took 1st Place •  Cornell Lee Cross II, Associate Director for Programs

"Of the 42 proposals submitted in the most recent Oklahoma Applied Research Support (OARS) funding cycle, the 3DIcon proposal was not only selected to receive full funding, it received the highest ranking possible in that funding cycle. Our independent third-party reviewers gave the 3DIcon proposal the highest ranking possible because the proposal had 1) a very credible research & development plan; 2) a well thought out commercialization plan that took into consideration both supply chain and downstream value chain partnerships; and 3) the huge positive potential of the business and its corresponding impact on the state's economy.”
