1. INTRODUCTION

1.1. Scope

The helmet and goggle is intended to provide protection to the head and eyes

from the hazards experienced during emergency and rescue duties.

It consists of a close fitting helmet with internal goggle which is suitable for non-

structural fire-fighting operations such as road traffic accidents, bush fire, water

and height rescue, civil defence and confined space inspections.

2. PERFORMANCE

2.1. The helmet is approved to European Standard EN443: 1997 but with EN397 lateral

rigidity, and including the following optional requirements:

a) 7KW/m2 radiant heat test

b) Thermal minus conditioning at –20C

c) Surface electrical insulation test

d) Wet helmet insulation test

2.2. The helmet is provided as standard with a goggle to provide protection to the

users eyes The goggle is approved to EN 166:2002, all clauses including Class 2

Optical with the additional option (a) Medium Impact Energy against high

speed particles.

Material of goggle – 2mm polycarbonate.

2.3. The helmet meets the requirements of the PPE Regulations.

2.4. The maximum mass of the helmet and goggle does not exceed 800 grams.

2.5. The helmet is shaped to allow for external audibility.

2.6. The helmet has provision for the attachment of a torch.

3. CERTIFICATION

3.1. CE type examination certificates can be provided together with documentary

evidence of the testing carried out by an accredited CE Test House.

4. QUALITY ASSURANCE

4.1. The helmet is manufactured under an approved ISO 9001 scheme, and details

of the quality plan are available on request.

5. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

5.1. The helmet is one size, and is fitted with a locking ratchet to give an adjustment

range for head sizes of 52-62 cms.

5.2. The helmet is available in a range of colours, with second colour peak, and can

be supplied with optional rank and operational markings.

5.3. Both the goggle and chinstrap are available as easily replaceable spare parts.

5.4. The helmet can be fitted with dedicated ear defenders, and if required a

removable goggle.

5.5. The helmet shell is manufactured from engineered thermoplastic.

5.6. The visor is manufactured from polycarbonate, and is retractable into the helmet

shell.

5.7. The headlining and padding assembly provides a comfortable heat barrier to

protect the user from external heat migration.

5.8. The liner assembly consists of an impact/heat retardant polystyrene moulding

designed to absorb impact and deflect heat.

5.9. A brow pad is incorporated which can be positioned for compatibility with

breathing apparatus facemasks and to allow for angle adjustment of the

helmet.

5.10. The adjustable chinstrap is manufactured from Nomex, and incorporates a quick

release fastening.

6. USE AND MAINTENANCE

6.1. An instruction manual is provided giving information for spare parts, repairs, user

instructions, and after use care and maintenance.
