The primer bulb removes air from thefuel lines and fills them with fuel. This

allows you to start the engine withfewer pulls on the starter rope. Acti-

vats the primer bulb by pressing it andallowing it to return to its original form.CHOKE

The choke helps to supply fuel to thecarburetor during starting. This allowsyou to start a cold engine. Ac_ste thechoke by moving choke lever to the Pullposi_on. A_er the engine has started, move the choke to the OFF position.

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE

_ WARNING: Be sure to read the

fuel information in the safety rulesbefore you begin. If you do notunderstand the safety rules, do notattempt to fuel your unit. Call1-800-235-5878.

FUELING ENGINE

This engine is certified to operate onunleaded gasoline. Before operation, gasoline must be mixed with a goodquality 2-cycle air-cooled engine oil.We recommend Craftsman brand oil.Mix gasoline and oil at a ratio of 40:1(A 40:1 ratio is obtained by mixing 3.2ounces of oil with 1 gallon of unleadedgasoline). DO NOT USE automotiveoil or boat oil. These oils will cause

engine damage. When mixing fuel,

follow instructions printed oncontainer.

Once oil is added to gasoline, shakecontainer momentarily to assure thatthe fuel is thoroughly mixed. Alwaysread and follow the safety rulesrelating to fuel before fueling your unit.

IMPORTANT

Experience indicates that alcoholblended fuels (called gasohol or usingethanol or methanol) can attract mois-ture which leads to separation andformation of acids during storage.Acidic gas can damage the fuel sys-tem of an engine while in storage.

To avoid engine problems, empty thefuel system before storage for 30 daysor longer. Drain the gas tank, start theengine and let it run until the fuel lines

Cut from your right to your leA.

Bring the engine to cutting speed be-fore entering the material to be cut.

0o not run the engine at a higherspeed than necessary. The cuingline will cut efficiently when the engineis run at less than full throttle. At lower

speeds, there is less engine noise andvibration. The cutting line will lastlonger and will be less likely to '_'eld"onto the spool. If the trimmer head does not turn

when the engine is in operation, makesure the drive shaft housing is proper-ly seated in engine shroud.

Always release the throttle trigger andallow the engine to return to idlespeed when not cutting.

To stop engine:• Release the throttle trigger.• Push and hold down the on/stop

switch until the engine has stoppedcompletely.

TRIMMER LINE ADVANCE

The trimmer line will advance approxi-mately 2 in. (5 cm) each time the bot-tom of the trimmer head is tapped onthe ground with the engine running atfull throttle.

The most efficient line length is themaximum length allowed by the linelimiter.

Always keep the shield in place whenthe tool is being operated. To Advance Line:

• Operate the engine at full throttle.• Hold the trimmer head parallel to

and above the grassy area.• Tap the bottom of the trimmer head

lightly on the ground one time. Ap-

proximately 2 in. (5 cm) of line willbe advanced with each tap.

To advance line, tap bottomoftrimmerhead on groundonetime.

L_e_chuts 'ine t° _l

Always tap the trimmer head on agrassy area. Tapping on surfacessuch as concrete or asphalt cancause excessive wear to the trimmerhead.

If the line is wom down to 2 in. (5 cm)or less, more than one tap will be re-quired to obtain the most efficient linelength.

_,WARNING:Use only .080" (2

mm) diameter line. Other sizes of linewill not advance properly and cancause serious injury. Do not use othermaterials such as wire, string, rope, etc. Wire can break off during cuttingand become a dangerous missile thatcan cause sedous injury.

CuI-rlNG METHODS

_ WARNING:Use minimum speed

and do not crowd the line when cuttingaround hard objects (rock, gravel, fence posts, etc.), which can damagethe trimmer head, become entangledin the line, or be thrown causing a se-rious hazard.

• The tip of the line does the cutting. You will achieve the best perform-ance and minimum line wear by notcrowding the line into the cuttingarea. The right and wrong ways areshown below.

3]p of the Line Line Crowded IntoDoes The Cutting Work Area

• The line will easily remove grassand weeds from around walls, fences, trees and flower beds, but italso can cut the tender bark of treesor shrubs and scar fences. To helpavoid damage especially to delicate

vegetation or trees with tender bark, shorten line to 4-5 in. (10-13 cm)and use at less than full throttle.

• For tdmming or scalping, use lessthan full throttle to increase line life

and decrease head wear, especially:• During light duty cutting.• Near objects around which the line

can wrap such as small posts, trees or fence wire.

• For mowing or sweeping, use fullthrottle for a good clean job.

WARNING:Always wear eye pro-tection. Never lean over the trimmerhead. Rocks or debris can ricochet or

be thrown into eyes and face andcause blindness or other sedous in-

jury.TRIMMING - Hold the bottom of thetrimmer head about 3 in. (8 cm) abovethe ground and at an angle. Allow onlythe tip of the line to make contact. Donot force trimmer line into work area.
